Hypoplastic left heart syndrome. At birth, children with hypoplastic left heart depend upon blood pumped by the right ventricle into the pulmonary artery (PA) to supply blood to the systemic circulation and end organs via a patent ductus arteriosus (DA). In many cases, coarctation of the aorta (CoAo) is also present.
