How to delete blocked numbers on iPhone xr

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

• Block or unblock recent callers
• Manage blocked numbers through Settings

You cannot block an Unknown Caller (No Caller ID), but you can turn on Do Not Disturb manually and set it to "Only allow calls from your contacts list." The call blocking feature may not affect phone calls made or received via third-party apps installed on your device. Please contact third-party app developers for assistance with such applications.

A great iPhone is a spam-free iPhone, and that's why it's so great that you can easily block messages, calls, and FaceTime calls from unrecognized numbers very easily in iOS 16. You can also block contacts or people you know if you just don't want them to be able to contact you. Of course, if you accidentally block someone you shouldn't have, or just decided to let someone out of "communication jail," you can always unblock them.

In iOS 16, you'll need to go into your iPhone's Settings app to unblock a contact or number. Here's how to remove someone from the blocked list on your best iPhone or best iPad.

  1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Tap Phone. You'll likely need to scroll down the menu a little.
  3. Tap Blocked Contacts.

That's all there is to it. The nice thing about the blocked list in iOS 16 is that you can have only a certain email address or phone number for a person blocked, and you can remove only certain ones if you'd like. However, remember that this will only unblock contacts from contacting you via Messages, Phone, or FaceTime, so if you've blocked someone on a social media app (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), you'll need to unblock them on that app if you so choose.

Don't just block spam — report it!

Blocking spam numbers is a great way to earn some peace, but don't forget that when you get a spam text, you can report it directly in the Messages app. I highly encourage reporting any numbers — in addition to blocking — so these scammers have a much harder time doing their unsavory deeds.

Updated September 2022: For iOS 16.

On an iPhone running iOS 7 or later, you can finally block the phone number of a nuisance caller. Once blocked, the phone number remains blocked on the iPhone even after you delete it from your Phone, FaceTime, Messages or Contacts apps. You can confirm its sustained blocked status in Settings.

Block and Delete an Unidentified Caller

  1. Tap your Phone or FaceTime app, followed by “Recents” to select a nameless number that appears in the log; for example, a toll-free number. In the Messages app, tap a message from an unfamiliar number, followed by “Contact.” Touch the “i” icon beside the caller’s number and then scroll down to tap “Block This Caller,” followed by “Block Contact.” Return to the Recents or Messages screen to delete the caller’s phone number or message.

Block and Delete a Contact’s Number

  1. Touch “Contacts” within the Phone or FaceTime apps. Locate the contact you want to block. Scroll to the bottom of the contact’s info screen to touch “Block This Caller,” followed by “Block Contact.” Then, tap “Edit,” followed by “Delete Contact” to remove the person from your contacts.

Confirm Blocked Status

  1. Tap “Settings,” followed by “Phone,” “FaceTime” or “Messages.” Next, touch “Blocked.” You’ll find the phone numbers and contacts you just blocked and deleted listed as blocked.

That's correct. I incorrectly assumed that when you said that you wanted the number removed from the blocked list, that you wanted it unblocked.

Go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification, slide the number to the left and tap Delete.
