How to play liked songs on Spotify without shuffle

When I first created this tool, I was frustrated with the way Spotify was playing my songs when I shuffled. I wanted to be able to randomize my playlist order in a more permanent way.

Once you authenticate with Spotify, your playlists will appear below. Select a playlist to change the order of songs and wait for a message. Easy peasy. Once it completes though, it can't be reversed by this tool. So make sure the list you want to change the order of is the correct one.

If you do end up using the tool and enjoyed the experience, please leave a comment down below! I never imagined so many people would find this tool useful. I just built it for myself and put it out there for anyone else to use.

There are few things better than a finely curated playlist. And the best playlists care a lot about song order — every track flows neatly into the next like a musical river.

But song order doesn't mean anything if you have shuffle turned on. That's why every version of the Spotify app lets you turn shuffle off with just a tap.

How to turn off shuffle on Spotify

The universal symbol for shuffle mode is two overlapping arrows pointing to the right. In Spotify, you'll find the shuffle icon next to the rewind icon.

To turn shuffle on or off, you just need to find and tap this icon. In the iPhone and Android apps, you can find it by tapping the name of the song playing at the bottom of the screen so it goes full-screen. In the iPad app, tap the song currently playing in the bottom-left corner. And in the desktop app, it'll just be at the bottom of the screen.

When it's highlighted green, that means that shuffle mode is on. When it's just white or gray, shuffle mode is off.

You'll need to open the app to see it — it won't show up on your phone's lock screen or in the control center.

If you have Spotify Premium, you can turn shuffle on or off at any time.

But if you use the free version of Spotify, you can only control shuffle in the Spotify desktop apps. In the mobile app, playlists that you've made and albums are stuck in shuffle mode, while playlists that Spotify makes for you can't be shuffled.

Shuffle play on Spotify is, essentially, the “surprise me” option at a restaurant. It allows you to randomize your listening experience by shuffling whatever is supposed to play next. Spotify Free users must listen to music in a perpetual shuffle mode, with ads turned on. However, Spotify Premium subscribers always have the option to turn shuffle off.

Help! There is no 'Shuffle' button in my media playback bar, only a 'Like' button.

If this is the case for you, you do not have Spotify Premium. Only Spotify Premium members have access to a Shuffle button. If you are using Spotify Free, you must use the app in Shuffle mode 100% of the time, so you cannot turn it off with a Shuffle button.
