How to spare undyne pacifist

How to spare undyne when you're at her house?

I'm trying to get the pacifist/true pacifist ending (i dont know the difference but i think im not supposed to hurt anyone) and i can't seem to just spare undyne. Last time i used fake attack but that did 1 damage and i think that makes it so i cant get the pacifist ending, anyways, is there a way to get past this fight without fighting?

Keep sparing her in order to exhaust her. Pay attention to the flavor text. When she’s exhausted, it’ll either say that she’s hyperventilating or that her eye is twitching. After that, run. Just run straight through the mountain. Don’t bother going left-right or up-down, it makes the running take longer. She’ll catch you, but if she’s exhausted, she won’t turn your soul green, so run away again. When Papyrus calls you, you’ll know you’re almost done. Keep running past the ‘Welcome to Hotland’ sign, past Sans’s Hotland sentry booth, and across the bridge. She’ll stop for a bit to yell at Sans for sleeping in the job. Once you cross the bridge and the new area loads, she’ll be trying to follow you, but pass out from hyperthermia and dehydration.

She has three different attacks. I call them ‘green shield’, ‘ground skewer’, and ‘tracker’. All her attacks do five HP of damage with no armor, one HP of damage with the best armor in the game (Tem Armor). In True Pacifist, this means that Undyne can kill you in four hits with no armor, twenty with the best armor.

‘Green Shield’ - This is when you can’t move. She’ll give you a spear to block her mini spears with. Use your arrow keys to point the spear left, up, down, or right. If her spear is already in the bullet box but hasn’t hit your soul yet, you can still block it (I died about forty times in my first save with fighting Undyne in pacifist. I died four times in my second save, partly because I picked up some tricks, and partly because I exhausted her, rather than running the moment my soul was red again.) The forward-facing (blue) spears will light up red when it’s the next one that you need to block. The gold spears come from one side, but flip over the bullet box and hit from the opposite side (it’ll come towards you on the right, then flip and hit you on the left). These aren’t super difficult if they’re on their own or with other golds, and you’re paying attention, but it’s difficult when they’re intermixed with regular blue spears. The golds are introduced in the third of her four uses of this attack. The little spears get faster with each progressing attack. She’s a patterned fighter, so this attack won’t ever change in order. At the end, she’ll turn your soul red again and send a spear shooting at you from the left. Move up or down. If you need more time, move up-right or down-right. It’ll work either way.

‘Ground Skewer’ - The bullet box will be the same size as ‘Green Shield’, but you can move. She’ll send spears out from the ground, either in the middle, on the left, or on the right. The spearhead will show up at the bottom of the box, and while it’s fully extended, another spearhead will show up, rinse and repeat. Stick to the top of the bullet box, as it gives you the most time to dodge. Stay where you are until a spear is headed your way, then move one spearhead over (again, there’s left, right, and center). Rinse and repeat. This attack is fairly slow, but not as predictable in order.

‘Tracker’ - The bullet box is normal-sized. She’ll summon little spears, spin them around outside the bullet box for a moment, then shoot them at where your soul is located at that split-second. This attack is average-speed. Move in a rough circle. Backing away from a spear in a straight line will cause you to get hit by that spear when it reaches you, so try not to move in straight lines too much. Don’t stay still. She summons the spears fairly quickly, so staying in one place is a terrible idea.

Yeah, I know, many of the people here have already beaten her. I’m just posting this so that on the off-chance that someone needs help, this is here.

Undyne is the third boss in Undertale, and her boss fight may be tricky. Her attacks are very challenging to avoid, and you’ll end up taking damage. Even so, there are strategies to help you defeat her.

As you can beat Undertale in Genocide or Pacifist Runs, the strategies will differ. We’ll include both to help you with both runs when you come back for the other. With these tips, Undyne the Undying won’t be too difficult of a match.

Genocide Run

In Genocide Runs of Undertale, your goal is to kill every living creature you see. This runs category includes the sweet Toriel and everyone else. Undyne the Undying isn’t an exception, and when you fight her, things can get complicated.

The best strategy is to stock up on healing items, speed items, and armor. Here’s a list of what we recommend:

  • Sea Tea for SPEED

Fighting Undyne consists of avoiding arrows and spears. Initially, the fight is easy, but random arrows and spears can mess up your rhythm. Take care to avoid all sources of damage.

Some later attacks are avoided with timing and speed, as you need to keep dodging arrows. Old patterns can also resurface with a twist. Keep calm, and you’ll be safe.

When you reach the later stages, you can afford to heal if you’re hurt. Undyne’s last attacks are very similar to her earlier ones, mostly with changes to trip you up.

The further you progress in the fight, the more Undyne speeds up. That’s where the Sea Tea comes in, as you’ll need the SPEED stats to avoid her maniacal attacks. Standing still isn’t a good idea, as she can hurt you if you don’t move.

Eventually, after dealing enough damage to her, Undyne will die, and you can go on your merry way of slaughter and bloodshed. Of course, this is assuming you’re doing a Genocide Run.

Pacifist Run

Pacifist Runs are the complete opposite of Genocide Runs. Instead of killing everything you see, you must take great care to avoid taking lives. You’ll end up fighting Undyne later on, but don’t be afraid. You can spare her even if the method isn’t apparent.

Undyne initially immobilizes you, and you have to deflect her projectiles. After some rounds of this with increasing speeds, you can move. She’ll keep attacking with spears, so make sure you avoid the attacks.

Persevere until you can move, and once you have an opportunity, keep running into the cave to flee. She’ll try to catch up, but eventually, she’ll get too exhausted and drop to the ground.

The Hotlands area where she becomes exhausted has a water cooler. If you give her water from the cooler, you spare her and keep your Pacifist Run intact. However, you must be quick to hand her a cup.

Kill Her or Spare Her?

Depending on your Run, you can either kill or spare Undyne. Sparing her lets you visit her house and even enjoy a cooking lesson. A few different routes can change what happens, but we’ll leave them for you to discover.
