2002 Dodge Ram 1500
Asked by in Morgan Hill, CA on October 23, 2010
The truck has a red light on the dash that is on and I have no power to the guages or wipers or brake lights. The truck starts fine but will drain the battery. The head lights and tail lights come on automatically regardless of switch position (not normal)

Look in your owners manual to see what the red light is. Could it be an alternator light? Check here //repairpal.com/automobile-owners-manuals-online or try this link you may be able to down load a free copy of the owner's manual for your vehicle //www.autousermanual.com/
Check the fuses and fuse links to see if a blown fuse is the cause of the instruments not working.
Guest N/A The 2002 dodge ram 1500's red flashing warning light illuminates on the driver's information dash and is usually associated with a weak or dead battery. the light can flash and disable the truck's other electrical components, gauges and lights. it is considered a "security malfunction" warning. to reset, either charge or change the ram's existing battery. disconnect charged battery cables for at least 15 minutes and up to
an hour, before re-connecting them. the ram should start and fire normally when fully charged and after a security reset. the red light can be triggered by driver error, such as leaving a door open when backing up and its illumination can effectively drain the battery within 15 minutes. So I got outside to take the 03 Dodge Ram 1500 QC 4X4 5.7l HEMI for a cruise lol. As I go to turn the key, a little red dot on the dash comes on. Everything just resets. The radio,a/c, and lights will come on, but when I go to turn the motor over it just makes a clicking noise and resets. The engine WILL NOT turn over. Any ideas?

What red dot (light) are we talking about here? The only one I know of is the Security Indicator. Does this help?

You may have have lost the code in the FOB key; it may need to be reprogramed. Can you get any codes with the "Dodge Key Dance"? ====================== Turn the key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON within about 5 seconds. Your odometer will then display any
codes one at a time. The displayed codes will start with a letter with three digit numbers. Something like P0123 or B1234 and you'll know it's done 'cause it will say "done". Have a pen and pad readily and write the codes down. There’s a DT Thread that has all of the Dodge codes and you can check it out for yourself. But be sure and keep us in the loop so we would things are going. * The "Key Dance" does not work on the 2004 model year * edit: Have you tried to jump-start
the truck? Dodge trucks are picky about having a strong battery under the hood.
With the Macarena playing in the background … It's the Dodge code "Key Dance".

This is the strangest thing in the world. I go to take my battery off the charger. Turns out the battery has been pretty well charged the whole time(Only been charging for 20 minutes and it was at 80% charge). I go put the battery in and try to start it. No luck(the motor wouldnt turn over). I give up after a couple of tries. My brothers comes outside
and i start talking to him. As i go to show him what the problem was i turn the key once more. I turn it off and then back on. It fires up. My truck has a mind of its own. Im scared to talk bad around her now anyways i check the codes and it turns out i have Po113 whatever that is

Yea thats what i figured. Just the starter acting up. I figure after 6 years its time for a new one anyways. I like to start fixing things before they totally give out. Makes life easier later you know?

I know the truck will barely run because the ECM needs the temp from the IAT to help set the fuel mixture. It will default to the OAT or battery temp to keep the engine running. It sounds like your battery is dead or has an internal short. The same light will come on when my battery is very low, and
even flash when the key is completely removed. Try cleaning the battery connections, then try another battery.

My dakota r/t and neon srt-4 both did the same thing to me. Both times it was the battery.
