Try adding the actual .exe file and not a shortcut of a shortcut.

ok, i found out how to do this with ORIGIN games installed through there downloader

1: add a game
2: add non-steam game
3: Browse
4: Computer
5: Program Files (x86)
6: Origin Games
7: click the games folder
8: click Launcher/Game which ever one is there
9: Rename it to the Games title
10: PLAY!

Thanks man. I was trying to add the Uplay game, Rayman Origins to steam, but kept getting 'catastrophic failure' error message.
This solution worked for me ;)

This thread is from 2013, by the way.

That aside, I generally use the Uplay's launcher + the browser protocol as the launch argument.

Here's what I mean,

My Assassin's Creed: Unity -shortcut looks like this for example,

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe" "uplay://launch/720/0"

You can find out the game's Uplay APP-ID (720 for AC:U) by making a shortcut, right mouse clicking it > Properties. And seeing what the URL is.

Roughly put,

  1. //i.imgur.com/LWxUsDN.png Make a shortcut on Uplay
  2. //i.imgur.com/yAXiBUD.png See the browser protocol
