Of course, the movie follows the journey of the mermaid Ariel, one of the daughters of the merfolk King Triton. The Little Mermaid explores Ariel’s wishes to become human after falling in love with a man.

However, even though The Little Mermaid is focused more on Ariel, it is also worthy to note that she is only one of seven daughters. In fact, she is actually the youngest of the seven sisters. And because the movie focuses more on Ariel, it was easy for us to get to know her without even getting to know the other sisters. How Many Sisters Does Ariel Have?

Ariel is one of the most popular Disney princesses of all time because of how she made little girls all around the world dream of one day becoming mermaids themselves. That is why, even today, Ariel is still one of the most iconic princesses in the huge roster of princesses that Disney has. Of course, she is the only mermaid among all of the popular princesses.

While we did say that Ariel is the only mermaid among all of the different popular princesses in Disney’s roster of princesses, it is worthy to note that she is actually only one of the daughters of the ocean king named Triton. That means that she has several sisters. In fact, Ariel is actually the youngest of all of the different daughters of King Triton.

So, with that said, how many sisters does Ariel have?

Ariel is one of seven sisters that are all daughters of King Triton. That means that Ariel has a total of six sisters, and all of them are older than her. All seven princesses are said to be representations of the seven seas.

1. Attina

Age: 21

Description: Attina is the first and oldest daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. Given that she is the oldest out of the seven sisters, she is regarded as the heir to the merfolk kingdom. Of course, because she is the oldest, she is seen as more responsible out of all of the seven sisters, but some of her sisters often regard her as bossy. 

One of Attina’s biggest passions is reading and researching the history of the sea, as she is often portrayed as a bookworm, a trait that allowed her to become a better leader and more responsible sister. And because she is the oldest, she doesn’t want to let her father down and make him feel disappointed in her. It was later revealed in one of Disney’s magazines that she eventually married a prince from a distant kingdom.

2. Alana

Age: 20

Hobbies: Picking flowers and spending time by her lonesome in the garden

Favorite color: Purple

Description: Alana is the second daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She is often described as the most glamorous out of the seven sisters, and that is why she wears her hair in a way that is similar to the five-pointed crown that her parents wear. She is also the one who is most interested in beauty and health among all of the seven sisters. But, despite her gorgeous appearance, she is often portrayed in the books to be a very shy sister.

Despite not having a lot of lines in the movies, she is actually the sister that has the most lines in the Broadway musical. This doesn’t seem to be in line with her shy personality, but she does have a best friend named Pearl, who is the opposite of Alana in every way because of how outgoing she is. And speaking of music, Alana is very fond of Jazz and is very fond of the tambourine. 

3. Adella

Age: 19

Hobbies: Going out on dates with boys

Favorite color: Light green

Description: Adella is the third daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. Among all of the seven sisters, she is often considered to be the one most obsessed with boys to the point that she often dreams about kissing a boy and dancing with one. This is why Adella loves romantic ballads and is more likely to play the violin.

But because she does have issues in relation to her looks (considering she wants to be noticed by boys), she hates it when her sister Andrina makes fun of her and plays jokes on her.

Given that she is the craziest one when it comes to wanting to be with boys, Adella is the sister most active when it comes to going out on dates. Her hobbies not only include going out with boys but also talking non-stop about them. In fact, in one of the movies, she got to kiss a boy. Despite her obsession with being shallow, she actually gained weight in one of the movies but eventually lost it all and became slender in the TV show.

4. Aquata

Age: 18

Hobbies: Water sports and listening to rock music

Favorite color: Baby blue

Description: Aquata is the fourth and middle daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. Her name actually translates to “water” in the Latin language. She is often portrayed to be the toughest and sportiest among all of the sisters. That is why Aquata actually loves different types of water sports and is the most athletic among all of the seven daughters of Triton. But her tough attitude can sometimes be the reason why she is at odds with her younger sister Arista.

Despite her being tough and sporty, Aquata is also the most obsessive-compulsive out of the seven sisters to the point that she doesn’t like it when her sisters borrow her things such as her hairbrush, pillow, and seashells. And whenever her sisters borrow her things, she often displays a tough and impulsive attitude that shows how obsessed she is at wanting her things back.

And even though Aquata may be the sportiest out of all the sisters, she is actually very shy when it comes to dancing because she actually is the worst out of all the sisters when it comes to dancing.

5. Arista

Age: 17

Hobbies: Having fun and playing music

Favorite color: Red

Description: Arista is the fifth daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She has blonde hair that has a style that is similar to her sister Aquata’s, except that she wears her bangs a bit differently compared to the older princess. Among all of the seven sisters, Arista is described as the bubbliest and most fun-loving out of them. However, she can also be quite an airhead at times, and that is why she is often described as someone who isn’t as smart or as bright as the other sisters.

Because of her fun-loving personality, Arista is probably second only to Ariel in terms of being adventurous. There was even a time when she felt so jealous about Arie’s adventures that she went on to join her younger sister in one of her adventures. Even though Arista may be the bubbliest and most energetic among all of the seven sisters, she is actually someone who likes going by the rules, which doesn’t seem to pair with her personality.

6. Andrina

Age: 16

Hobbies: Joking around, gossiping, and exploring

Favorite color: Violet

Description: Andrina is the sixth daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena. She is described as the funniest out of all of the seven sisters such that she loves making jokes. Because Andrina loves jokes, she hates people who don’t know how to take a joke or even understand what the joke is all about. But her jokes can sometimes be the reason why she and her older sister Adella can get into petty fights.

Owing to the fact that she likes making jokes, Andrina is considered to be the wittiest among all of the seven sisters. However, her blabber mouth tends to be the reason why she also loves gossiping on top of making plenty of jokes. Despite that, she is quite an adventurous mermaid and loves going out to explore.
