Slightly Mad's first Project CARS game, released in 2015, received mixed reviews from both the gaming community and the media. Very few thought that it matched Assetto Corsa, a game that had been available since 2013. The team decided to take the feedback to heart, and in September 2017, they released Project CARS 2, which gave them another chance to top Assetto Corsa.

What's the Difference?

When playing both games, you may find them very closely related to each other, but there are plenty of differences among them. Both games have a unique appeal, and their internals is entirely different. Let’s have a look at them.

1. Physics

In sim racing games, many settings can be tweaked to create a much-improved setup, and those who have experience with them know the challenges associated with the physics. If you compare the physics of both games, then you might feel that both games are almost the same. It is because both these games work on the same theme and mechanism. But if you compare the smoothness of drive and overall driving pleasure, then Assetto Corsa may take the lead here.

2. Vehicle Predictability

Assetto Corsa is clearly the best here, but Project Cars 2 has a problem in which Practice/Qualifying tires feel different from Race tires, and tire smoke annoys players.

3. Eye Candy

Although Assetto Corsa looks nice, I doubt any mods will be enough to make up for Project Cars 2. Project Cars 2 has inferior anti Aliasing, and Assetto Corsa has a lot more "graphics hardware friendly" setting, meaning it can be pushed further than Project Cars 2.

4. Weather

Here, Project cars 2 shines again. In Assetto Corsa, the weather cannot change during the race because the system is static. In both games, real-world weather can be used. It is clearly observable in project cars 2 but not visible in Assetto Corsa; however, they also claim this feature.

5. Mods

If you compare the mods of both games, then you can easily spot a winner here. The Assetto Corsa has a sheer amount of mods as compared to project cars 2. Although the mods are not too many, when compared to PC2, they are much abundant.

6. Tracks and Cars

If you don’t count the mods, then definitely project cars 2 is a clear winner here. But if you do not mind playing with mods, Assetto Corsa goes far beyond PC2 in styles and tracks.

Which is Better?

In the end, it gets quite difficult to say which game is better. It is because both games have their own strengths and weaknesses. So, it all comes to the user’s choice and preferences.

It won’t be wrong if we say that Assetto Corsa is a bit better and dynamic as compared to project cars 2. While Project CARS 2 has more tracks, night/day and weather.

I'm new to simracing, and really got in because of Dirt Rally. My wheel is coming in on Tuesday (T150 Pro), and I am looking at some other games to get. This is what I understand so far:

AC:

• More realistic physics, but has a tendency to understeer

• Bigger community

• More fun to race solo

• Slightly more intense force feedback

PCars 2:

• Better graphics

• Unforgiving damage to cars

• More fun to race against AI

Am I correct on those points? What are your suggestions? I don't think I want to buy both, at least not yet.
