Lovely home! It's funny how colors show up on monitors - your windows don't look white either! But they are a good size and I like the muntins. I was trying to compare the shade of the essex green, again on my monitor, and was having trouble seeing it all working. It's such a dark, true green. If your roof were darker, I'd say go for it, but the red roof is throwing me. You have a lot going on in a small area in front, with a low roof over the picture window, the brick and siding, all I can visualize is a cream colored trim and facia with a darker brown or brick red color on the front door. I'm not going to comment any more other than to say that I love your landscaping. Beautiful Japanese Maple. Congratulations on the redo. It's a huge improvement. Enjoy it.

I did this in my kitchen. I really wanted to replace this window with a steel window but the cost was exorbitant. Since the old window (a 32 yr old Pella) had removable grids, I had the grids painted black. If I change my mind, I can always have it painted white again.

As much as I love the look of true black steel windows, I can't say I'm a big fan of the wannabe ones that have become so popular. Windows are expensive. They're expensive to buy, and they're very expensive (and a bother) to paint. I, personally, would never order black windows, indoors or outdoors, as this is a fad right now that is going to quickly date a house, and will be costly to remedy.

Just remember all those Palladian windows that sprung up in every subdivision in the country in the 80's - all now look very dated and date the house.

There are places to have fun with a trend, but they should be ones that are easily changed, not semi-permanent.

The Trend

One of my favorite trends in Interior design is black trim around windows & black windows.
It makes the windows pop & really frames the view outside turning the windows
into works of art. The black window trim & windows makes the space look more custom
& helps anchor the room. Black trim is beautiful & can be so classy
& fabulous when done right. Inside & outside adding black trim adds a dramatic
custom touch that adds so much character that can be as affordable as a can of black paint.
