Can you pause a download on xbox one, and turn it off

I got the XB1 Battlefield bunsle for christmas and we started the installation a little late... can we just pause the install and continue from the same spot tomorrow?

Also would it be bad to just leave the xbox one s running overnight?

Can you pause a download on xbox one, and turn it off

Yes to your first question, No to the Second. To be more precise you don't even need to pause it, just shut it down if you want and it will continue from the exact spot the next time you put it on. Also I suggest you put your power consumption to "Instant On" mode under power settings so you can leave your console off but with downloads still going. The Xbox One is a pretty tough machine, was designed to last 10 years with power still on. Don't worry about power issues or over heating, just make sure you have it in a well ventilated space. Enjoy.

This is precisely what I do. I've a shit Internet connection and when downloading games I just pause them during the day, let them run during the night. What scares me however is doing this with MCC because it's apparently huge and my 2mbps connection will have to download tonnes of updates :(

level 2

My two cents, make sure your Internet Service Provider doesn't have data caps. If so make sure you uncheck automatically install updates. Instant on is wonderful but getting that bill just ain't.

level 2

Instant on is the choice for downloads, but I ran into problems after leaving it on that option for some time. While it's on energy saver it basically does a hard reset each and every time you turn the Xbox off, where as when I had kept it on instant on I couldn't even load my BC games and couldn't figure out why. As long as you remember to do a hard reset every once and a while, instant on will be your best bet (although manual resets didn't help me until I changed back to energy saver)

level 1

Ya. I'd just select Instant On mode and let it run in the background.

Protip: stuff downloads and installs faster when you're not gaming as well.

level 1

I'll add to what others have said and recommend using the instant on function so that updates can occur in the background.

Sometimes my friends and I will try to get on together and they all complain about there being an update, and I'm already in game and loaded.

level 1

yes you can and no, theres an always on setting (its in the power setting on the xb1) and it will turn the console off but will still download games and updates. So you don't have to pause it and tomorrow your game will be ready to play. Think of it as putting the xbox to sleep.

level 1

If you don't have to worry about data caps you can turn off your console off and it will continue downloading everything. Really the only limitations when it comes to downloads are data (if you have caps) and hard drive space. And for the hard drive space you can always buy an external hard drive if necessary.

level 1

yes you can leave it paused

you can also let it download when you turn the xbox off if you have instant on

level 1

Just FYI if you ever want to actually pause an installation you select the game that's downloading and press either the button with the two boxes or the three lines, whatever they're called. I can't remember which one but one of them brings up a menu where you can pause & resume the installation.

level 2

Two boxes = view button
Three lines = menu button

level 1

You can do that, but you don't need to pause it. You can turn off your console and it will go into sleep mode and continue to install/download stuff.

level 1

Yes, and no need to pause either you can still play game or w/e while it's downloading in background. My day one xbox one has been on since it released day one, other than rebooting it

level 1

Have had Xbox one since day one release, has never been turned off except when installing updates, power outage, or trying to fix connection issues. No problem here.

Power always was a core part of the Xbox brand DNA.

you dont need to pause the installation, just turn off your xbox, it will continue next time you turn it on, or just leave in standby mode it will install and update your games and apps to date if theres an update.

Can I turn off my Xbox while a game is downloading?

In the Settings menu, find the section called "Power & Startup" and select "Instant-On Power Mode." This will keep your Xbox One on standby so it can finish any downloads while it's turned off.

What happens if you turn off Xbox One while downloading?

The benefit here is that games and applications will continue installing and updating, even when the console is off. It does consume more power than the energy-saving mode, but it will save you time. It's also less energy-intensive than having the console fully switched on while you download a game.

Can you set Xbox One to turn off after download?

You don't need to, as long as your console is set to download stuff in standby mode then you safely turn your console off, and the Xbox One will continue to download stuff.

Will my download stop if I unplug my Xbox?

Yes it will stop since the console will not have power.
