People like myself have bought the original game and we still play even today. What will happen to us when Diablo II: Resurrected is released? Show Nothing happens to you. 
Yes. Diablo 2 (2000) and LoD (2001) will stay exactly where they are on old Bnet. You can access them the same as you always have.
No. Old Bnet is completely separate. It has its own Authentication/login, servers, etc. That is what D2 (2000) and LoD (2001) run on. Modern games are on the Battlenet 2.0 which is what the Bnet Common Launcher logs you into - and what D2R will be tied to.

The upcoming remaster of Diablo 2 will support game saves from the original version, the game’s producer has confirmed. Matthew Cederquist told IGN Middle East that despite Diablo 2 being more than two decades old, anyone who still has a save file from the original game will be able to load them up in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Cederquist explained that the decision to support original Diablo 2 saves wasn’t planned from the beginning, but after trying it out the team was surprised to find the remaster could load them. “Back when we were working on [the remaster], we wondered if the old save files would work and we kind of shoved it in and it worked,” he said. “And we were like, ‘okay, that’s the best feature ever’.” Although it wasn’t explained whether this would only work for the PC version of the game, Diablo 2 Resurrected will also support cross-progression across formats, so in theory players could import their 20-year-old save into the PC version then carry on playing it on console. Blizzard Entertainment announced Diablo 2 Resurrected for PC and consoles last month during BlizzCon 2021. The game will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, will full cross-progression between formats. The game features both classic and remastered visuals, which players can switch between on the fly. Blizzard said Diablo 2’s signature gameplay and systems are unchanged, “quirks and all”, but there have been quality of life improvements including a shared stash. The remaster has been developed with Vicarious Visions, the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot N. To begin, it is very important to note that Diablo 2: Resurrected does not support crossplay. The game does support cross-gen play, however, allowing PS4 players to party with their PS5 friends and Xbox One owners to team up with those on Xbox Series X/S.
How do I transfer from d2 to d2 resurrected?All there is to do is to copy the save files from the original Diablo 2 to the Resurrected folder on PC. The exact route is C:\Users\Username\Saved Games\ for both the Diablo II and Diablo II Resurrected folders. Drag and drop your files and you'll be all set.
