Spoilers for Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers (2022) below.
After the first trailer for CnDRR was released, a user from
4chan who saw the movie claimed that the villain was actually Pluto. Here's the comment in question.
What's really interesting is that nothing in this comment seemed to contradict what we had scene in the first trailer. In fact, one Twitter user analyzed the screenshots and everything seemed to
match up. (For instance, one shot had Chip with a black dog's ear, but most of us were too distracted by the My Little Ponies to notice. If the 4chan user was making things up, then they sure had an eye for detail.)
Then the second trailer came out, and surprisingly, it seemed to confirm a lot of things about this comment. There was an officer named Ellie who was a big Rescue Rangers fangirl, there was a wall of stolen toon parts, and while the villain appeared to be a middle-aged Peter
Pan instead of Pluto, the YouTube captions referred to him as "Mean Dean", which was the pseudonym Pluto used in this supposed leak, implying "Peter Pan" would turn out to be Pluto in disguise.
Then the movie came out, and...surprisingly, that ISN'T what happened. Sure, Ellie turned out to be real, but the villain was indeed Peter Pan, not Pluto, his pseudonym is Sweet Pete instead of Mean Dean, his goal was turning toons into bootlegs instead of upgrading himself, Monterey Jack was the
one who was kidnapped instead of Gadget, and Chip's dog ear was from Snoopy, not Pluto.
Okay, typical 4chan trolling, right? This user lied about seeing the movie and gave us a fake plot synopsis to throw us off. That happens a lot.
But how did this user know about Ellie if she wasn't in that first trailer? How did they know about the stolen toon parts, or that the caption for the second trailer would use the name "Mean Dean", especially since it was never used anywhere in the final
film? How did they pick up on Chip's dog ear that only appeared for a few frames in the background in the first trailer? And the wall of toon parts doesn't make as much sense without the idea of Pluto trying to upgrade himself.
It's possible this user just saw an early test reel for the movie with an earlier scrapped plot...but there's literally no evidence anywhere from any of the filmmakers that they were ever going to use this idea. For instance, according to
this interview, the villain was originally Charlie Brown of all characters.
The only explanation I came come up with is that the user somehow got a leak of the second trailer.
This just makes me more upset than I already am about this movie. They willingly changed the villain to Peter knowing full well about how the company abused their actor into suicide. I hope
this cut gets found, if it does exist.
