Cold Steel 4-Max Scout vs Spartan

  • #41

I have both and so far the scout is just as good in build /fit finish ect as the more expensive brother. I have used the 4max for over a year as my work edc (it gets a few comments! plus I am in the UK!!! )

All in all very good value for money from cold steel.

I only edc production knives due to the annoyance of losing anything un replaceable ( I lost a usa 4max and a strider AR that's prob worth about 600 bucks now! )

I might, just have to grab a third 4 Max Scout for the safe. No way to go wrong with this one.

Thanks, Daniel! Appreciate the 'like' brother.

So, so tempting. But, I already have a Spartan...

Get ‘em so you have both lol. The 4-Max Scout looks like the more practical version of the Spartan. Can’t go wrong with that beefy no-nonsense drop point blade.

I ordered one today, since

Dadpool said a retailer was selling them for a VERY good price. I couldn't pass it up! Finally adjusted the tension on my AD10 clip since it hasn't loosened with actual use, and I can't wait to compare the 4max to it. I don't need another knife, or even one as big as the 4max, but I wanted it. The price made me hit the buy button...

Can't wait to see how it carries!

I used to own a Spartan, and while it's in no way a pure novelty knife it definitely feels less practical to me than the 4-Max Scout. IMO, while there's nothing subtle about either of them the Scout conveys "I'm a large work knife" while the Spartan conveys "I'm a weapon," another layer of practicality I like about the 4-Max.

I predict you'll be pleasantly surprised. I mean you know you're carrying a 10 oz. knife, no mistaking that, but for the beast that it is it's actually surprisingly pocketable.

Mine just came today and I'm really digging it.

I hesitate in saying what a great value the Scout is.

The last time that I raved about the AD-10 and AD-15, Cold Steel jacked the pricing!

Well better go get one for 83 bucks while you can! It's the cheapest I've ever seen it, which is why I didn't pass it up this time!

I got my ad10 for 100, used with no box or left hand clip. And it's hollow ground! Love it to death. Wish the scout was hollow but I think it will be all right!

I think you will be pleased with the Scout soc_monki. Best warblade under $100 bucks anywhere.

Then get someone to put a custom low rider clip on it and it will make it even more complete!!
Best buy for the money! Kevin

A Noctigon Meteor M43. No longer the lumen king it used to be, but it blasts out about a car headlight's worth of high-CRI goodness.

I do not need a spare, I do not need a spare, I do not need a spare, ugh

it's a bargain for the money. my one is super smooth and lock up tolerances are as good as the Italian one I have. I would say the best hard use folding knife on the planet for the money...

  • #56

Hard to go wrong with either incarnation of this knife. Basically, depends on your wallet.

sitting here waiting for mine to be delivered. Why does my mail always come so late!?! When someone other than our regular lady does the route we get our mail around 11-12. She does it and its 3:30 or later...its torture!

It finally arrived! Haven't had a lot of time to play with it, but opening, closing, just general functions are smooth and I expect it to get even better. It's definitely chunky, and feels much different in my hand than my AD10, no surprise there. I used to think the AD10 was a beast (it is) but the 4max is next level!

Edge grind is good and sharp, although I think I can improve on it with a few swipes on a fine spyderco. Also have to lessen the tension on the clip slightly. Not as bad as my ad10, but still pretty stiff. Might sand down the area under the clip as well, we will see!

Overall, for 83 dollars it was a steal! Definitely worth the 110 they normally sell for! I'm happy!

When I got the Italian-version, I thought that too. After a while, they just seem 'normal-sized'. Welcome to the the ever-expanding 4 Max Club!

Thanks guys, I need to be clearing them out to pay for a wedding instead of buying two more since it takes $99+ to qualify for free shipping

Guess 5+ out with 2 in is better than the normal 2 in with 0 out. Exchange, here I come to list a couple more for sale...
