Reese Witherspoon is continuing her current book-to-TV reign. The Oscar winner is bringing the upcoming Taylor Jenkins Reid novel Daisy Jones & the Six to the small screen in a 13-episode series for Amazon, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Wednesday. Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine media brand recently acquired rights to the book, which follows a fictional rock band through their rise to fame and inevitable breakup in the 1970s. The complex format takes readers on a Behind the Music-style trip down memory lane and is a must read for music fans.
Witherspoon has been scooping up book-to-TV adaptation projects pretty rapidly this year. On top of Daisy Jones & the Six, Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine will bring Little Fires Everywhere to Hulu as well as three series to Apple (including a TV morning show drama starring Jennifer Aniston). Get ready to go back to the ’70s! Prime Video has a new television miniseries in the works, Daisy Jones and The Six. The new show is based on the popular book of the same name by author Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Reid will produce the new series, alongside executive producer Reese Witherspoon who is helming the project through her production company, Hello Sunshine. Back in July 2018 before the book was even published, Amazon ordered the limited series.
The book’s main characters are Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne. If you’ve read the books, their love story might sound similar to the one between Fleetwood Mac’s singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. In a blog post for Hello Sunshine, the author said the two characters of her book were partly inspired by the two real-life musicians.
Deadline previously reported the show would be 13 episodes. What else do we know? Here’s all the information we have so far about Daisy Jones and The Six!
Daisy Jones and The Six release updates
There’s no release date yet for the upcoming series. Filming began in September 2021 and it seems like filming is still underway. Cast member Suki Waterhouse recently spoke with Elite Daily, confirming that fact.
Though if we had to guess, they are probably very close to wrapping filming. We could potentially see the new series streaming sometime in 2022. The bio for the official Instagram account of the series just reads “coming soon to @primevideo.”
Daisy Jones & The Six synopsis
We also don’t have an official synopsis yet, but we have an idea of what the show is going to be about since it’s based on a book. The novel follows the rise and fall of a 1970’s fictional rock band, Daisy Jones & The Six. It is written in a documentary style, including interviews with ex-members of the fictional band in the present day. The book dives into the personal relationships between the band members, especially the leads Daisy and Billy. The story focuses on how they become one of the most legendary bands in the world, and why they split at the height of their success.

Reid even wrote full song lyrics in her book from the perspectives of the two main characters.
