BRENTWOOD, NY — A 62-year-old man was killed in a two-car crash on the Long Island Expressway early Sunday and police say the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot.

According to Suffolk police, 59-year-old Doreen Kucer was driving a 2016 Kia Optima west on the LIE near Exit 53 in the right lane when her car was rear-ended by a 2008 Honda Accord at 2:18 a.m.

The Kia then struck a guardrail and came to rest in the HOV lane. The driver of the Honda fled the scene on foot following the crash, police say.

Let's go!

Kucer’s lone passenger, Terence McAree, of North Babylon, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead.

A woman from Bayville suffered serious injuries Saturday, December 17, in a three-car accident that happened in Brentwood. At approximately 12:05 a.m., the crash happened on the Long Island Expressway.

A man from Queens is facing DUI charges in relation to the accident. Police in Suffolk County say the accident happened in the westbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway near exit 53.

A person named Ki Tat Leung, 53, of Flushing, Queens was headed west in the center lane when his vehicle collided with the rear passenger side of a Honda. The Honda was driven by Bryan Bilotta of Bayville.

The Honda hit a wall and was then struck by a tractor-trailer, according to police. Bilotta was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay shore to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Bilotta’s wife, identified as Cassandra Rostad, was the passenger present in his vehicle at the time of the crash. She was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

The tractor-trailer’s driver, Jose Evan Monico Derramas, sustained no injuries in the collision.

Authorities continue to investigate the details of the accident.

Our thoughts are with Cassandra Rostad. We hope for her full recovery.
