Nice to know! I spent a good deal of time trying to figure this out.

I just tried to do a puzzle that had a 4x4 grid with pips in each square, and it wanted to know how many pips should go into the square with a ? mark in it. The hint was that it didn't like repeating - so I figured it was kind of like sudoku...nope.

Here's a much faster solution:

1: Deduce correct colour, easy with practice

2: Mentally trace out the lines ROUGHLY (so get the correct areas of the circle)

3: Read options and eliminate any choice with symbols outside the valid areas. This will usually solve it.

4: if still unsolved, trace out 1 exact path mentally and that should be enough to uniquely identify the solution.

Alternatively stop at step 3 for (usually) a 50/50 guess.

Step 1: get a pen and a sheet of paper

Step 2: put your paper on the screen

Step 3: you need to note two critical information from the inner circle: the end of the various lines & it's color, face's middle line, it's gonna help you to get a horizontal line at the end.

Step 4: rotate your paper until you connect all noted lines' end and match with the same color from the middle ring

Step 5: note the middle ring's outgoing endpoints (color is not important at this point)

Step 6: rotate your paper so the face's middle line changes to a horizontal line.

Step 7: now you can check for the solution using the middle ring's out going lines.

I hope I made these steps clear, it was really painful to come up with a solution.

Imma post my way here too then. No diagram, but you can read!

Treat it like a clock. The very top-most icon is 16, the next is 1, then 2, etc.

So let's say the yellow lines are pointing at 1 5 and 10. The lines that would match up with yellow are pointing at +1 (line bends clockwise), -1 (line bends counterclockwise), and 0 (line is straight... or mostly straight).

So the other rings matched to the inner ring are pointing at 2, 4, and 10.

Now to 'rotate' the inner ring, imagine a line going from the 'bottom' to the 'top' of the face. Let's say for this it's pointing at 5. The center will need to be rotated 5 things to the left (or -5).

2-5 = 13 (remember, it's like a clock)
4-5 = 16
10-5 = 5

And voila. Takes about 20 seconds to do once you get used to it.

So I've been seeing these pop up along with the other puzzles for searching Ruins; I see that the hint is "alignment is all" but for the life of me these sets of puzzles are confounding me. I can work out the Matching, the Sudoku, and the Die puzzles fairly easily, but the Dials leave me completely @_@

hi all

we all have had this problem: you search a ruin and you get that silly old ones dial that you have to rotate in your head to get the right answer

this mod fixes that https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1899700957

it does that by replacing the images by pre rotated ones

all credits to Anyndel I am merely sharing it
