Does Serenade of the Seas have obstructed balconies?

Good day everyone!

I booked a 11-day Southern Caribbean cruise for December, 2018 way back in June, 2017 and am now looking to upgrade my stateroom from an interior to a balcony.

So based on the website, there are currently slim pickings for a balcony stateroom. What I would like is a port side (to avoid the smoking section from the upper decks) stateroom either mid-ship or toward the aft. I would also like to be on 8th floor or higher. The only stateroom that is available on the website that fulfills all my criteria is stateroom #8164 - one small caveat though, it has an obstructed view. This upgrade will increase my cruise budget to an additional $1,300.00, which is quite a bit for me. So, before I buy, I'd like to see a photo of said obstruction.

Does anyone have a photo of this stateroom's balcony??

Much obliged!

My husband and myself, as well as his two brothers and their wives have booked a cruise for this coming January on Serenade of the Seas. We were not told that the 3 staterooms we booked have obstructed balconies, we found out after booking on deckplans.com. We have tried to change staterooms, but the cruise is sold out. Has anyone stayed in #8162 or one of the 8th floor balcony staterooms that has the ladder/window cleaning aparatus, and how bad is the obstruction? We've been told that it is a 70% obstruction for 2 of the staterooms and 20% obstruction for the other. Pictures? Thanks

Here is a very clear picture of the aft window washing equipment... I took these photos on purpose for fellow CC'ers like yourselves so that they can see which cabins may possibly be affected.

8162 is 3rd from the aft, 2nd row of balconies up fro the lifeboats, basically right in front of the washing equipment so there is full obstruction unlike what cb_at_sea said in the previous post.

Hope this helps

What is an obstructed view balcony on Royal Caribbean?

What does an obstructed ocean view or balcony stateroom mean on a cruise ship? This means that there is something partially blocking your view from the window or balcony. Typically, it's a lifeboat, deck equipment, or simply part of the ship.

When was Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas renovated?

After some extensive upgrades in 2012 and again in 2017, plus a refresh of some public spaces in 2022, the ship now features modern dining options, upgraded cabin amenities, new lounges and bars and a poolside movie screen.

What is a fully obstructed balcony?

A fully or partially obstructed view balcony is a cabin that has some sort of obstruction blocking your view - and the particular item in your way varies by ship and category. It is usually a lifeboat located above, below or directly in front of your cabin.

What is the best balcony room on a cruise ship?

Rear-facing balcony cabins are among the best balcony cabins on any ship. Often, their balconies are bigger than balconies on side-facing cabins and they also feel quiet. There are far fewer balcony cabins at the back of a ship than on the sides of a ship, so you don't hear a lot of noise from your neighbors.
