Does Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion include Trinity?

Hi,

I want to be able to play SOSE: Rebellion, but it says that it includes all previous content. Does that mean it includes the Trinity bundle, and therefore the original game, or do I have to include the original game separately? It is a bit confusing to me. Thanks for answering!

While it is true Rebellion has all the previous content ever developed for Sins, unlike Trinity it is not backwards compatible. You can only play Rebellion, you do not have access to play trinity/diplomacy or the original game by itself.

That said, there are really only two cases where this is an issue. One is if your friend has one of the older versions and you'd like to play with them. The other is if there's a mod you want to try, though most of the mods are being updated for Rebellion. If neither applies to you I'd say you aren't missing out.

OK. I only ask since I am planning to buy this on Steam, but aren't sure if I should buy both Trinity and Rebellion or just Rebellion. Which gives me everything?

OK. Now is it what I think it is, where there is a dialog box that allows me to select the game and expansions I wish to play?

No. That's what I've been trying to say. It is not backwards compatible. You can only play Rebellion, you can not play the previous versions without the Rebellion content. Trinity had that but Rebellion does not.

What exactly are you worried about that you'd want to play the old expansions?

What I am worried about is spending twice for the same stuff. I want to know what Rebellion has. If it says "all previous content", I assume that means Trinity. Trinity has the original game and the two expansions, Diplomacy and Retrenchment. If I get Rebellion, is that considered buying Trinity, and therefore Rebellion being a bundle in disguise?

If you buy Rebellion, you have every contents from the original game, Diplomacy and Entrenchement, plus new content (like subfactions, corvette, titans). So if you want everything, go ahead and buy just Rebellion. The only thing you can't do if you have Rebellion, is playing online with people who only have Trinity

OK, thank you. I know what to buy now.

Rebellion costs too much would be my major complaint. If you can get it for 30 bucks or less, go for it. Its maps and AI play better, the negotiating flows better, and the choice of rebel/loyaltist is surprisingly important to how your Empire develops. Its graphics are better as well, and there are titans, which add an interesting aspect to tactical warfare. You'll be winning for the first ten minites only to find that the reason behind that is just because the AI was sinking all its money into building a titan. Your ten minite gain will quickly become a ten minite grudge match while you struggle to build rebuild your fleet that the aforementioned enemy titan ate. (literaly in the case of the Vasari Loyalists)

Loyalist/Rebel groups have some interesting things that set them apart. You'll see Rebel Vasari try to negotiate with other AIs, and form alliances so they can use their abilities to the fullest. At the same time, when you invade the Loyalist Vasari areas, you'll find a dozen burned out husks that used to be planets, and face the terrible idea that there is a mobile fleet focused empire that could be hiding anywhere in the galaxy.

They added a LOT its just hard to find it, and most of it doesn't come into play until late game. That said, they kinda just copy/pasted major parts of Trinity, which you can forgive because Trinity was freaking epic, it just shouldn't have been 60 when it came out.

If you didn't get it over the thanksgiving sale, try to get it at christmas. It really is a lot of fun, the only thing I can't really recomend is multiplayer, because I dont' play it often enough to give it a good critique.

(((Edit: I was wrong with the price. : ( I apoligize. But 40 Dollars is still too much! I'm not made of money! I want it for free damnit. )))
