Does unmatching on Tinder delete messages

Tinder is one of the world’s most popular dating apps. It enables you to match with others in your vicinity quickly — or, if you are a premium subscriber, anywhere in the world. Now, if a conversation goes south or you want to go your separate ways, Tinder allows you to easily remove people from your match list. Let’s go over how to unmatch people on Tinder.

JUMP TO KEY SECTIONS

Unmatching with another user allows you to clear them out from your messages.

After you unmatch someone, you can still pop up in their Tinder feed. As such, it is possible to “re-match” with someone you’ve already unmatched. That said, after unmatching with anyone, your history with them is deleted. If you re-match with them, your past messages won’t reappear.

  1. Launch Tinder and go to the Matches tab. This looks like two speech bubbles.
  2. Under Messages or in New Matches, tap the person you want to unmatch to open that conversation.
  3. Tap the blue shield icon in the top right.
  4. Tap UNMATCH FROM [their name].
  5. In the “Would you like to unmatch this user?" pop-out, tap YES, UNMATCH.

What happens when you unmatch on Tinder?

Unmatching with someone is akin to unliking them, and it will remove both parties from each other’s match list. It’s also the closest you can get to blocking them, as unmatching will delete all of your history.

Does Tinder tell you if someone unmatched?

Life goes on as normal for the person you unmatch. They are not notified that you’ve unmatched them, and they will not be able to retrieve any messages they sent you.

That said, if someone has disappeared from your match list, that doesn’t necessarily mean they blocked you. If someone deletes their Tinder account, all of their matches and stored information get deleted as well.

If you remove a person, the entire process happens silently, and the other person is not notified of the deletion.

  • You disappear from the match list

As soon as you unmatch a person on Tinder, that person will not be able to see you on their watch list and will not find your account there.

  • You won’t be able to send them a message

Since the person will not appear on your watch list, you will not send any messages to that person you unmatched.

  • When you unmatch someone on Tinder, even if you search that person’s name, you will not be able to find them again unless you delete your old account and create a new one.

  • The person might not notice

If the person you deleted has several matches in their list, that person will not be notified of any deleting unless they scan the list looking for you. (See Why is Tinder bad for your mental health?)

  • You will not be able to read previous messages

Whatever message thread you and that person exchanged earlier when you were matched will disappear after you unmatch the same person.

  • Permanent block

This option is very similar to Facebook’s block option as when you unmatch someone, that person is permanently blocked. (See Why do people unmatch others on Tinder?)

Did you swipe right without paying enough attention, and now you’re matched with someone you’re not interested in? Or maybe they said something in a message that turned you off?

No matter your reason for doing it, unmatching with someone on Tinder is easy. Here’s how to do it:

    1. Tap the person’s profile pic and open the chat queue.

    2. Androids: Tap the three-dot icon (…) near the top right.
iOS: Tap the blue shield icon in the top right.

    3. Tap “unmatch.”
A pop-up will appear asking you if you’re sure you’d like to unmatch this person. Click your answer and continue on with your swiping.

If at any time in your dating app experience you feel uncomfortable about a user, report them by clicking the same (…) or shield icon and filing a report.

Can the other person tell you unmatched them? (What do they see?)

In a word: no. They don’t get a notification.

You do disappear from their matches, but there’s no way for them to be 100% sure you unmatched. (It’s plausible, for instance, that you deleted your Tinder account altogether or that the disappearance was caused by a Tinder glitch.)

Does the conversation disappear when you’ve unmatched?

Unfortunately, those sweet nothings are gone forever. Thankfully, your inbox is now all cleared up for more compatible matches.

How to get way more/better matches

Not getting high-quality matches? No worries; you can turn this around.

Take a good look at your Tinder pics. What are they saying about you that’s attracting the wrong kind of people (or failing to attract better ones)?

Photofeeler can tell you exactly how your Tinder pics are coming across to the gender/age you’re interested in. And it’s free to use here.
