What can I put down to keep the neighbors dogs from pooping in front of my house. I spoke with the neighbor around Christmas time and they are still letting their dogs out the front door by themselves. They don't go in their yard they go by my house. Is there a product I could put down that won't hurt anyone. It is getting so gross everytime someone steps out of their car they need to be careful. Please help.

You are too nice. I would be at their house and force them to come out and clean it up while I watch them everytime I found poop.

  • #3

You shouldn't be looking for a product. Your neighbor should be keeping his dogs in his yard. Tell him again, then call the authorities. You are making this your problem. It's really his.

And toss the poop back into their yard.

I would aim for the driveway.

I have had the same problem. Once DD saw the dog come poop in our yard, she promptly walked over there, knocked on the door, and asked if they were going to come clean it up.

On Monday there were 3 piles in my yard. I went in the garage got my shovel and picked up the piles and moved them to their yard. They were gone the next day.

We had this problem with some former neighbors and DH would shovel up the poop and put it back in their yard.

I agree with pp, you are being too kind and making this your responsibility. I sympathize with you because I know how tough these things can be.

Oh, sorry to hear that! I feel for you especially since I am that neighbor you're talking about!

Well, not your actual neighbor but my dog feels the need to poop in our neighbor's yard, too. It makes me so mad and I try to watch her but w/4 kids she always seems to get out w/out me noticing. I got some pellets from our local garden store. It's supposed to keep dogs out of the garden but I put it where she was pooping. It's only been a week but so far so good!

Good luck!

(I also will clean it up and I've sent them gift certificates for lawn services/stores. I'm trying so please don't flame me everyone!)

Sorry you are dealing with this. We've got a guy in our neighborhood with a St. Bernard and he lets the dog crap anywhere he pleases. He lets him go way up on peoples' lawns and do it. Not cool. Our dog poops in OUR yard, and we pick it up. I'll never understand the mentality of "Can't have my dog poop on my precious grass, but somebody else's? No problem!"

Mine does this too. I guess they find their own yard to be their "den" and refuse to use it as a toilet too. I must look in to those pellets.

Seeing you live on LI, most likely there is a pooper scooper ordinance in your town as well as a leash law. Next time you see it happen, report the dog and the uncleaned poop to your towns animal control department. They will get a nice visit by animal control telling them that the need to clean up their poop and keep their dogs on a leash. They probably will also get fined. Let your township handle this, as they're the ones breaking the law!

Both dh and I would be fighting with them. So I guess we are no help.

Automatic sprinkers with motion detectors are a good deterent.

and I have. We moved to a very rural area, the norm here seems to be leave the dogs outside 24/7 and not confined in a fenced area or in any way to their own property. Our dogs are confined in a fence (to the tune of $1,200) I clean the area at least 2 xs a day. Then the neighborhood dogs run up to the fence and "pick" fights with mine & leave their little "gifts". I have talked to the neighbors, they start out all apologies and then it happens all over again. Our taxes pay for animal control, there are leash laws, I call, they come, soon the only dogs here will be ours

I had this problem with one neighbor. She let her dog poop right at the end of my driveway. What I did was when I saw her coming I went outside and stood on my steps and waited there while she walked by. I had to do it a couple of times, but the problem stopped.

At least here you can't put up fences in the front of your house since they have to be back from the curb so many feet....

PS, I dont have a dog but do have problems with neighbors not being neighborly.

And toss the poop back into their yard.

I watched the neighbors dog poop on our lawn one day- my dh went out, shoveled it up and threw it in their driveway.

Dog poop should be compact, moist and easy to pick up – feeling a bit like Play Doh when squished. And if your dog's poop is hard or dry, it could be a sign of dog constipation.

Why did my dog poop in front of my door?

Anxiety: Dogs with anxiety problems—namely separation anxiety—may poop inside the house when they are feeling stressed. When under duress, many dogs are unable to control their urge to urinate or defecate, leading even the best house-trained pup to have accidents indoors.
