Dragon age inquisition investigate hunter fell

Investigate Hunter Fell is a war table operation in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Acquisition[]

Recruit Iron Bull via the side quest The Captain of the Chargers. The operation will become available once the Inquisition relocates to Skyhold. This mission is the first part of a logic grid puzzle in which the player must identify a Venatori agent from clues uncovered by the advisors.

Operation text[]

Based on the revelation at Haven that Venatori operatives report to a darkspawn believed to be the magister Corypheus, threat assessment of possible Venatori has been prioritized as vital.

Duke Tythas Pentaghast rules the Nevarran city of Hunter Fell. A former military hero who prided himself on his open-minded attitude, Duke Tythas rules with the help of a secret network of old adventuring companions—and possible lovers, as they are all rumored to be beautiful women. Information on the "Five Belles of Hunter Fell" is limited, but they are known to include humans from both Orlais and Ferelden, an elf, a dwarf, and even a Tal-Vashoth. Known or suspected backgrounds range from respected Mortalitasi or dragon hunter to bard, smuggler, or even apostate.

We believe one of the Five Belles of Hunter Fell is a Venatori agent working to advance the agenda of Corypheus.

Advisor suggestions[]

Note: The time listed is the time it takes with no agents.

Josephine - 0:15:00[]

Dragon-hunting is a noble's sport, usually. I should be able to find out about this hunter.

Leliana - 0:12:00[]

A bard's reputation precedes her, even if she wishes otherwise. I can uncover more about her.

Cullen - 0:15:00[]

I've friends among the Templars; they might know more about this supposed apostate.

Results[]

Josephine[]

A letter to Josephine with information on the dragon hunter:

Although dragons were rare until quite recently, she had slain four. Those who have seen her fight say that seldom does one see anyone so tall as she move so quickly, for she stands head and shoulders above both the elven member of the Belles and the smuggler, yet moves with a grace neither can match.

Leliana[]

A letter to Leliana with information on the bard:

I have heard only rumors, I fear, but it is said that her most intriguing aspect is her voice. It is of a unique quality, different from most Orlesian bards, who are human or elven.

Cullen[]

A letter to Commander Cullen with information on the apostate:

All I can say for certain about the apostate is that when asked why she had not joined the circle, she declared that the Chant of the Light was for humans, and meant nothing to her. I hope this information helps.

Rewards[]

All advisors

  • Gold (~75-110)
  • Unlocks the operation Continue Investigation

Notes[]

  • The operation text sets up the logic grid puzzle for the player. The Five Belles of Hunter Fell each have a different race: Orlesian human, Fereldan human, elf, dwarf, and Tal-Vashoth. Each has a different background: Mortalitasi, dragon hunter, bard, smuggler, and apostate. The player's goal will be to match each race with a different background in order to identify the Venatori agent. Each advisor will give the player a different set of additional information for the logic grid puzzle.
  • The most useful piece of information at this stage is identifying the elf, as the identities of the dwarf and Tal-Vashoth can be determined regardless of choices. Josephine determines she is "not the smuggler," Cullen identifies her as the "apostate." If Leliana is chosen, she can only determine that she is "not the bard," which is not as useful since the bard can be identified later on solely from the Ben-Hassrath's information provided in mission briefings. Choosing Josephine or Cullen next will make it a little more difficult to arrive at the correct solution in the final stage.

Identify Venatori Agent is a war table operation in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Acquisition[]

Unlocks after completing the operation Continue Investigation. This mission is the final part of a logic grid puzzle in which the player must identify a Venatori agent from clues uncovered by the advisors.

Operation text[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

All information about the Five Belles of Hunter Fell has come back negative. The Tal-Vashoth is not the bard, the elf is not the Mortalitasi, and the dwarf is not the smuggler.

And an addendum:

We have learned that the Fereldan is the Venatori agent, but unless we can link her to a specific background quickly, we will lose this lead. We must remove the target immediately to stop Duke Tythas from falling prey to Venatori interests.

Advisor suggestions[]

Note: The time listed is the time it takes with no agents.

Josephine - 24:00:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to eliminate the bard.

Leliana - 19:12:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to eliminate the smuggler.

Cullen - 24:00:00[]

Have Iron Bull tell the Ben-Hassrath to take down the Mortalitasi.

Results[]

Josephine / Cullen[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

The target was eliminated, and as expected, all other targets went into hiding immediately. Duke Tythas did not locate our operatives during his search.

The recent move to expedite movement of Tevinter mercenaries through Hunter Fell suggests that we eliminated the wrong target. Duke Tythas remains subject to Venatori influence. Hunter Fell must be considered a hostile city.

Per his request, operative "Iron Bull" will receive further intelligence reports to improve efforts in the future.

Leliana[]

An excerpt from a Ben-Hassrath information report:

The target was eliminated, and as expected, all other targets went into hiding. Duke Tythas did not locate our operatives during his search.

Information the duke found on the corpse revealed the smuggler's Venatori involvement. Duke Tythas has cut off trade with the Tevinter Imperium and is thoroughly investigating his city. Hunter Fell is no longer subject to Venatori influence.

Per his request, operative "Iron Bull" will receive further intelligence reports to continue his efforts. Supplies from Seheron have also been dispatched.

Rewards[]

Josephine[]

  • 60 Influence

Leliana[]

  • 100 Influence
  • Dragon age inquisition investigate hunter fell
    Elfsnake Vitaar
  • The Venatori agent is uncovered as the smuggler

Cullen[]

  • 60 Influence

Notes[]

  • The operation text gives the player more clues for the logic grid puzzle: the Tal-Vashoth is not the bard, the elf is not the Mortalitasi, the dwarf is not the smuggler, and the target is the Fereldan human. The player's goal is to match each race given in Investigate Hunter Fell with a different background in order to identify the background of the Fereldan human (the Venatori agent). Each advisor will send the Ben-Hassrath to assassinate a different target.
  • After Investigate Hunter Fell and Continue Investigation, all players should now have the following information, which is available regardless of advisor combinations from the previous operations:
  • The Five Belles of Hunter Fell are an Orlesian human, a Fereldan human, an elf, a dwarf, and a Tal-Vashoth
  • The Five Belles of Hunter Fell are a Mortalitasi, a dragon hunter, a bard, a smuggler, and an apostate
  • The Venatori agent is the Fereldan human
  • The Tal-Vashoth is not a mage
  • The Tal-Vashoth is not the smuggler
  • The Tal-Vashoth is not the bard
  • The Dwarf is not the smuggler
  • The Elf is not the Mortalitasi
  • This additional information comes from understanding the following Dragon Age lore:
  • A Mortalitasi is a Nevarran 'death mage.'
  • An apostate is a type of mage
  • Dwarves have no magical ability and thus cannot be mages

Since the player must kill either the bard, the smuggler, or the Mortalitasi, assume the target must be one of those three. The key pieces of information to discover during the investigation are the profession of the elf and the identity of the Mortalitasi:

In Investigate Hunter Fell:

  • Josephine determines that the Elf is NOT the smuggler. Based on the information always available, she must be the the apostate.
  • Cullen determines that the apostate is NOT a human. Based on the information always available, she must be the Elf.
  • Leliana, however, does not learn either of these pieces of information. She does however learn that the Bard is NOT Elf or Human.

In Continue Investigation:

  • Josephine determines that the Tal-Vashoth and Orlesian are enemies, due to the Orlesian "binding corpses with magic." This identifies her as a necromancer, at the very least, but considering the puzzle Mortalitasi is the logical conclusion.
  • Cullen determines that the Mortalitasi is "friendly with the Fereldan and the dwarf, and a Circle member in good standing." This means that the Mortalitasi is NOT Fereldan. Based on the information always available, the only option is the Orlesian.
  • Leliana determines that both the Orlesian and the elf are the two mages of the Five Belles. Based on the information always available, apostate is the only 'mage' job available to the Elf, while both are available to the Orlesian. Therefore, the Orlesian is the Mortalitasi.

Logic Grid Puzzle Solution:

  • The Orlesian human is the Mortalitasi
  • The Fereldan human is the smuggler and the Venatori agent
  • The elf is the apostate
  • The dwarf is the bard
  • The Tal-Vashoth is the dragon hunter

The correct solution is to follow Leliana's advice and assassinate the smuggler. Even missing the information to complete the full logic grid (which is possible with a Leliana - non-Leliana advisor combination), identifying the Mortalitasi is sufficient, as the bard is always identifiable by working backwards with the Ben-Hassrath's information. With the smuggler as the only remaining option for the Fereldan human, that is the only option that can lead to a positive outcome.

The only way the player's own investigation can be wrong is assuming the Orlesian is an apostate, which would falsely identify the elf as a smuggler and the Fereldan as the Mortalitasi.

Bugs[]

  • If this operation is started prior to completing Iron Bull's companion quest Demands of the Qun, and the quest is finished while the operation is still in progress, the operation is also removed from the war table. The advisor working on it will be unavailable for the remainder of the duration of time left to complete the operation.

Which is the Venatori agent?

The Venatori agent is the Fereldan human. The Tal-Vashoth is not a mage. The Tal-Vashoth is not the smuggler.

How do you get the Iron Bull personal quest?

Acquisition. Speak with Iron Bull about the Ben-Hassrath, then have a drink with him and the Chargers inside the Herald's Rest after relocating to Skyhold. At least 35 approval is required to trigger the scene. The next time you speak with Iron Bull, the quest will trigger.

How do I get demands of the Qun quest?

Demands of the Qun is triggered after speaking to Iron Bull in Skyhold. It's unknown exactly what condition this quest becomes available, but it's likely due to a combination of time (i.e., other quests completed) and positive disposition of Iron Bull.
