Elac uni-fi ub5 vs klipsch rp-600m

Like anything in life, it depends. Personally, I have an all-Klipsch system and I love it. I don't have experience with that exact model, but the design and tech is very similar to what I have. They're not necessarily for everybody, though. Here's some factors and pros/cons:

1. The Klipsch are horn-loaded. The tweeter sets back in the cabinet and focuses the sound more narrowly than the ELAC. They have a more defined "sweet spot" so if you tend to listen alone in your favorite chair in the middle of the room, Klipsch are going to be a bit better. If you have a larger living room where you entertain more people and/or you tend to vary your listening position, the ELAC are going to be more forgiving and give you a larger sweet spot in the room.

2. The Klipsch have a larger woofer with a larger port, so they're going to have a bit more low end and sound a bit warmer. They are, however, a 2-way design whereas the ELAC are more of a 3-way (woofer, mid-and-tweeter coaxial). The ELAC are probably going to have a bit more detail in the mid- and upper-range and be a bit more flat-sounding. If you like jazz or classical you might want the ELAC. If you like more hip-hop, pop, or electronic, the Klipsch have a bit more of a V-shaped sound signature with a more forward presentation.

3. The Klipsch have a higher sensitivity rating. This is sort of a double-edged sword. If you're using a cheap amp and/or source, static and noise might come through a bit more. However, you won't be cranking your amp as high. If your amp is clean-sounding at normal volumes, having a lower gain setting might eliminate this noise. It can be tricky. The ELAC are going to be a bit more forgiving when it comes to the rest of your gear, but the lower sensitivity also means they need a bit more power to reach the same volume level.

No matter which you choose, leave the center channel on the back-burner for now. A sub is going to do a lot more for sound quality than a center. A good pair of speakers can simulate a center channel pretty accurately, but only a sub can really add to the overall frequency response of your system. If you're using this system for mostly movies, I would even do the back/side channels before the center for better positioning and a more enveloping sound. The center is mostly icing on the cake.
