Ask yourself what's more important. Having a good time and playing the game the way you like, or some weird arbitrary badges that earn you . . . what? Credibility? Fame? Money?

This. If modding it made it more enjoyable, why do achievements matter? I turned on mods and couldnt really care less about achievements.

I dunno, you have a point. I just really like the feeling of when the achievement pops up for something. I guess you have a point.

No, it is not a sin and mod is just a mod, it does not mean cheat. Get out of that console mindset.
However, a lot of people would recommend playing the game through at least once without using any.

While there are cheat mods, most are just quality of life things, patches, cosmetics or add extra content to the game. The developers have even made some of those quality of life mods into official plugins with the gift bags.

Any mod will disable achievements regardless of what it does though, hence the mod that re-enables them.

The script extender reenables them. Get that instead, as it also improves loading times.

Can you still get achievements when using mods?

No. Once a game has a mod enabled, you will not be able to unlock achievements or trophies. If you wish to unlock achievements and trophies in your game, you will need to disable all mods and revert to a save game prior to the mods being enabled.

do mods disable achievements? does adding mods disable achievements? Yes but there are some really nice mods out there and I believe there's also a mod which allows achievements again. Yes, but the same guy that did similar tweaks for Skyrim, Fallout etc to enable achievements with mods enabled, also has one for DOS2.
