Farrow and ball oval room blue

A darkened historic blue

Oval Room Blue is the most blackened of our blues, giving it a subtly aged feel. Named after the attractively shaped rooms of the late 18th century, it sits perfectly with our popular greys to create depth and balance in either a hall or a darker, cosier family room.

Recommended Primer & Undercoat: Mid Tones

Complementary white: Ammonite

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful rich blue We decided to paint our bedroom in oval room blue. We chose the modern emulsion, I love the colour options of farrow and ball but am always looking for a practical finish that can withstand kids and their mucky hands! Having used the modern emulsion in our kitchen dining area I was impressed with both the finish and the fact it stood up well to our busy household. The paint went onto the walls beautifully and only really needed one coat with minor touching up in places. The finish is perfect and I love the sumptuous depth of colour. Our bedroom now feels like a beautiful retreat I can’t wait to escape to every evening! Thank you farrow and ball!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ali01522 from Oval Room Blue and Shaded White I was unsure of the shades of these two colours but they were recommended together and I went with it. Delighted I did as they are great. The room is light with big windows and and faces West. Some people have said on the reviews Shaded White is beige but here it is definitely pale gray. Somehow it feels like a warm shade too. The Oval Room Blue is darker than I anticipated but I do like it. Sometimes you need to be a bit bold, it brings the character of a room out. If you’re in doubt go for it, I think you will like the result. I used a brush, old walls may appear flat, but often that is not the case and a roller gives patchy coverage.

the most ‘blackened’ of their blues, giving it a subtly aged feel. Named after the attractively shaped rooms of the late 18th century, it sits perfectly with our popular greys to create depth and balance in either a hall or a darker, cosier family room.

Let’s take a look at some comparisons of similar colours to get a better read of this blue.

Colour Comparisons

Dix Blue No.82 & Stone Blue No.86

Here it seems to look more like a gray blue when sandwiched between Stone Blue and Dix Blue. Oval Room Blue is much less vibrant than those other two colours.

But when you view it in isolation and pair it with specific hues, it seems more bright than you might expect.

What are the undertones of Hague Blue?

F&B's Hague Blue (pictured above) is a strong, dramatic and timeless hue with green undertones, which works wonderfully to ground skirtings or used as an accent colour on walls.

What colour is light blue Farrow and Ball?

Light Blue from Farrow & Ball is a light silvery blue and the lightest blue from F&B's original collection. This color becomes a little more silver in tone shaded areas so it is popular for halls, especially when the remainder of the house is painted in cooler, more neutral greys.

What is a stiffkey blue?

An inky navy This inky blue is named after the Norfolk beach where the mud, along with the cockles, share a particular deep navy hue. Although traditional in feel, Stiffkey Blue is often used as an alternative to Down Pipe to create a richly dramatic space with a more contemporary finish.

What colour is stone blue?

This warm and timeless blue is named after the indigo pigment which was often imported in lumps in the 18th century. Stone Blue's lively and saturated colour can be used alongside warmer tones such as Pelt to create an inviting vintage look, or the cooler Mole's Breath for a cleaner, more contemporary feel.
