"I once spent months trying to teach a dracohydra to perform a five-part harmony. The singing didn't take, but the image of all its heads wearing the little hats and mustaches I gave them still tickles me to this day."—Fizban

In-Depth Guide to 20 Draconic Creatures

How do the mindsets of red dragons and gold dragons differ? Where do they prefer to build their lairs, and what allies do they favor?

In this book you’ll find in-depth information about twenty different draconic creatures, with insight into their personalities, tables full of their favorite treasures, adventure hooks that might lead characters to encounter a dragon of that type, and more.

Lair Maps

Scattered throughout are maps of dragon lairs you can plunder for your adventures. With them you’ll find descriptions of special lair actions a dragon may use, and regional effects that manifest in the surrounding landscape, whether it’s a ghostly naval ship escorting well-meaning creatures to a bronze dragon’s lair, or unusually talkative desert creatures living near a brass dragon.

A Bestiary Full of Stat Blocks

Across the worlds of the Material Plane and beyond, draconic creatures appear in myriad varieties. This book contains a full bestiary of stat blocks and lore—introducing gem dragons, greatwyrms of godlike power, additional creatures of the Dragon type, and creatures often associated with dragons or found in their lairs.

An intrepid YouTuber has datamined D&D Beyond and uncovered the October Book which was to be announced at D&D Live–Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons.

Wizards of the Coast’s big October Announcement has been leaked ahead of D&D Live after YouTuber Nerd Immersion uncovered the October book buried in the D&D Beyond API Code. While there was no extremely rapid typing or cool mirrored sunglasses involved, Nerd Immersion did dig through a bunch of code and unearth the new book coming later this year: Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. Take a look.

Well, now we know where the dragon-themed Unearthed Arcana from a few months back is ending up. We’ve been speculating that a dragon-themed book would be released this year, and though it’s not an updated Draconomicon, this new book looks like it will include much of the same information, including the return of a dragon type that 5E players have been clamoring for a while now.

Take a close look at the dragon in the background there, the one fighting the Red Dragon–as Nerd Immersion points out, those are crystalline looking spines, which seems to indicate the return of a gem dragon, a fact that matches with the new draconic ancestries introduced in Unearthed Arcana.

As you can see, there are five different gem dragons to match the chromatic and metallic dragons: Amethyst, Crystal, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz. But more importantly, the name of the titular character also brings Dragonlance back into the fold. Fizban is an important figure in the world of Krynn. He is the avatar of Paladine, a mighty dragon god who liked to walk the world in the guise of a befuddled old man in mousey wizard robes. Sometimes called “Bah’Mut” or “The Platinum Dragon” you might recognize the name. And now Fizban is heading up the whole book.

No mention of Tasselhoff Burrfoot though

Of course, other characters from worlds beyond Faerun have had their own books before. Mordenkainen and Tasha both hail from the world of Greyhawk, so this isn’t necessarily a “Dragonlance” specific setting–but Krynn has long been a part of 5E in the background of different rulebooks, and now one part of it is getting the spotlight, at the very least. Here’s a look at the official Amazon entry, which lets us know the official details are coming Friday.
