Steam versions of both Fallout 3 GOTY and New Vegas Ultimate Ed.

I have reinstalled and fixed my issues with the main menu not appearing, but I can't start a new game. When I click New Game, the popup asking to overwrite the current Autosave appears. Selecting "yes" does nothing and closes the popup, as does selecting "no", so I am stuck at the main menu. I am on a clean install with no old saves to attempt to load.

Possibly of note, I can not toggle archive invalidation (it is currently on, I just wanted to reset it to make sure) because I apparently do not have permission to access fallout.ini

Also, no matter which .exe I select to start the game (FalloutNV.exe, FalloutNVLauncher.exe, NVSE_loader.exe, fnv4gb.exe), the default New Vegas launcher pops up.

I have no idea wtf.

If you think nothing is impossible... try slamming a revolving door. Yeah.

Fnv cant start new game ttw

I just installed Tale of Two Wastelands and when I boot NV using FNV4GB, the menu comes up properly, but once up, I click "new", it gives me the option to start a new game, and then just does nothing. Doesn't crash, doesn't give me an error, just does nothing. I disabled all of my mods (which all should work with TTW, I checked) and tried again, and this still happened. Any advice? :)

Reinstalling the game won't get rid of the mod. You need to manually delete the leftover files first.

I did...I did that 2 times...

Then the usual check: do the strange events carry onto a freshly created, new character? If not, then the savegame is borked. If yes, then try a new install location for a reinstall. Or a different mod manager.

The issue is that it is obvious something is wrong at your end, but when mods get involved, finding out that something is a blind guesswork. If you know what mods you had in what install order and what happened in your play through, then maybe it can be backtraced, but chat supporting it is borderline impossible, it will be just guessing.

So loading a past save may fix it?

Fnv cant start new game ttw

Yes. Bethesda, when they originally designed the scripting engine, went the dumbest routes possible. They save a ridiculous amounts of information into a save file, but when you load it and the engine tries to interpret all that info compared to the world it loads it into, things can get… interesting. This is one of the reasons auto and quick saves are so unreliable, they are coded even shoddier (otherwise a "quick" save in Morrowind would have taken half a minute back in '02).

I'm trying to start a NEW game tho

Fnv cant start new game ttw

Oh, sure. ^^'

Let's get back to the basics then.

Does the new game crash after the intro or do you manage to see the white light of your character spawning?

If you load an older save, each of them produce the same effects? If you download a random save (there are "clean" saves on the Nexus), you experience the same issues?

I cant even get in to a new game, I click new game and yes, and it just stays on the main menu

Fnv cant start new game ttw

Stays on the main menu? I never heard about a glitch like that.

Do you have another drive you can install the game on? Freshly, preferably? This is still sounding like file corruption to me.

No I do not have another hardrive...

All the DLC files say I can start them in fallout new vegas and fallout 3, no matter how many times I delete them and restore my files I can't fix that...what do I do? I think that is causing the problem...

Fnv cant start new game ttw

Did you install the mod correctly?

Did you install the mod correctly?

I fixed it by uninstalling everything, setting the DLCS to only open for their respective game, and then verifying the game cache

Does TTW need NVSE?

YES TOTW works with NVSE. TTW *is running the FNV engine*. That's how it works. It simply imports the assets from FO3 into FNV.

Where do you start in tale of two wastelands?

Aye, you start in the DC wasteland in Vault 101, as if you were starting a new game in Fallout 3. You can then take a train to the Mojave.

Do you need Fallout 3 for Tale of Two wastelands?

do you need fallout 3 for tale of two wastelands? Well yeah. It combines the two games. The install guide of TTW pretty much tells you this.
