Fram vs Mobil 1 oil filter Reddit

I typically put Synthetic 0w-20 in my '09 Camry. This oil change I decided to splurge and buy the Mobil One Oil Filter for $15. I have been buying the cheap $3 filters from Napa but a coworker recently advised me not to skimp on the oil filter. Is the Mobil One worth it or is there something cheaper that is just as good?

Fram vs Mobil 1 oil filter Reddit

No. Wix = Toyota oem are the best.

Yeah, just stick with Toyota OEM. You can get them from the dealer for $5-6 around here so no point in buying something else. Mobil runs frequent rebates though so it might only cost you $3 more for the Mobil1 filter over the Toyota. Even though some might argue that's over 50% more it's just $3 so I wouldn't really even worry about it.

I agree. I've sold wix for 18 years now. I've had displays with cut open filters at a couple stores that really show the difference.

Mobile One is just marketing

Wix/Napa Gold is fine

I just buy a Bosch at Walmart. My Accord has been chugging along fine for past 12 years with those.

Ive watched alot of reviews of oil filters just for the hell of it, and the only ones you need to avoid are those 3$ filters and any Fram filters.

The crappy filters are very risky (can just disintegrate and clog your oil passages) and dont filter properly, nor do they flow enough. Some of them didnt even filter at all, the pressure valve in them was jammed open right out of the box.

The expensive Frams are fine - just the cheap ones are bad like all the other brands.

I was typing out a dealeo about what I've used and read, but...

anything that's not a cheap fram filter will preform just fine and up to par with all the rest.

When in doubt, go OEM.

IMO no, too expensive for little to no gain. I typically use wix or Purolator filters on my cars.

Full, Denso & Union Sangyo have treated me well... half the cost of Mobil one...

I'm not sure if the Mobil One Oil Filter is the best synthetic oil filter, but it is probably much better than the cheap Napa filter. I personally run Fram Ultra filters. If you go on to bobistheoilguy forums, the people there review a lot of oil filters, do oil testing, and other stuff to back up their claims on oil filters. They seem to like the Fram Ultra filters, hence why I use them.

This will probably get lost but for anyone that likes Purolator filters you can get them even cheaper at Walmart. The Walmart brand super tech has filters now and the OEM on them is Purolator. We had the Purolator rep in pulling the old stock that didn't sell and confirmed that the super tech are Purolator OEM.

Also fun fact. Pennzoil really cares about the presentation of there oil. Castrol, Mobil 1, and Valvoline couldn't care less.

I go for K&N. No complaints. Also, they have that nut on the end, so you can wrench it off.

Not bad, but not worth it IMO. Typically when I go out to by Oil and Filter, I pickup a Bundle. Typically Advanced Auto would have Pennzoil Platinum and a Puralator Boss Filter to go with it for around 32 bucks out the door.

If you're going Extended Intervals between Oil changes, it would be a great investment as they last quite a number of miles.

A good alternative I've Used is the Puralator PureOne for around 7 bucks. Great quality and great for intervals of around 3-5K.

That's my go to also. I don't even use the filter, but they seem to be pretty nice. I have a couple of them in the garage unopened. I buy a case of OEM Subaru blues on eBay for around $4/ea. A lot better than paying the dealer $80 + shop fees for a synthetic oil change.

Most cars get retired not due to engine wear, but corrosion, accidents, transmissions (and the fluid never being changed), or a stackup of repair bills that exceed the cost of the car.

So basically... it's super rare for an engine to 'wear out'. I think cheap filters are fine.
