The short answer is Yes. The long answer is Not Officially. When you access the Meta options for casting Quest 2, you are provided with casting to your phone, your PC, and to a Chromecast device. So, if you have a Chromecast device, you cast Quest 2 to your Samsung TV through the device.

However, there is also a way to cast directly to your Samsung TV without an external device, as long as your Samsung TV has the casting feature on it. Read on to see the full list of requirements for every method of casting Quest 2 to your Samsung TV.

Requirements to Cast Oculus Quest to a Samsung TV

There are several ways to cast Quest 2 to a Samsung smart TV, depending on the Samsung TV model you own. The general list of requirements for casting to Samsung TV include:

• Strong internet connection
• A Samsung TV
• A Chromecast device if built-in cast is not present in the TV
• Oculus mobile app
• Your Quest 2 headset
• Airplay for iPhones
• SmartView or SmartThings

How to Cast Oculus Quest 2 to Samsung Smart TV

1. Cast Using Oculus App on Phone

If your Samsung TV has a built-in cast feature, then it’s easy to cast directly from Oculus app to your Samsung TV using the steps below:

1. Turn on your Oculus Quest 2 headset and your Samsung smart TV

2. Make sure that your headset and your TV are connected to the same network with strong signals

4. Download the Oculus app to your phone if you haven’t ready, and sign into your account

5. Open the Oculus app on your phone and tap on the cast icon

6. Under Cast From, select your Quest 2 headset

7. In the Cast To, select your Samsung TV

8. Select Start at the bottom of your screen

9. Strap on your headset and accept the request to grant permission for the casting.

The process is pretty much the same if you’re using a Chromecast device with your Samsung TV. You just need to select the Chromecast device at the Cast To prompt.

How To Set Up Chromecast

If you do not already have Chromecast set up on your Samsung TV, please follow the steps below to set it up:

1. Purchase the Google Chromecast device

2. Plug the Chromecast HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your Samsung TV

3. Plug the USB cable into the charging dock of your Chromecast, and connect the charging dock to a wall socket

4. Turn on your Samsung TV and select the HDMI input source

5. Download the Google Home app onto your smartphone

6. Sign in with your Google account and complete the prompts

2. Cast Using Headset

You can also cast directly to your Samsung TV or via Chromecast, from your Quest 2 headset. Please note that this option is not available on all Quest 2 headsets:

1. Turn on your Oculus Quest 2

2. Connect your Quest 2 headset to the same WIFI network as your Samsung TV

3. Strap on your headset and press the Oculus button to open the universal menu

3. Cast Using Airplay for iPhone

First, cast Oculus Quest 2 to your iPhone

4. Cast Using SmartThings on Android and iOS

You can use either the Smart View or SmartThings app to cast from your phone to your Samsung TV. However, we recommend using SmartThings because it has better functionality and support for Quest 2 than Smart View.

First, cast Oculus Quest 2 to your iPhone

1. Turn on your Quest 2 headset

2. Ensure that your Quest 2 is connected to the same WIFI as your phone

3. Open the Oculus app on your phone

4. Select the icon with a headset and WIFI signal together. It is at the top right of your screen

6. Under Cast From, select your Quest 2 headset.

7. Ensure that the status of the headset is Connected

8. Under Cast To, select This Phone

9. Select Start at the bottom of your screen

10. Finally, put on your headset and accept the permission to start casting to your phone

Then cast your phone to your Samsung TV using SmartThings

1. Ensure that your Samsung TV and your phone are up to date

2. Download the SmartThings app to your phone (Android and iOS)

3. Make sure that your phone and TV are connected to the same WIFI

4. Open the SmartThings app on your smartphone

5. Click the Devices tab

6. Select Add Device

7. Sign in to your Samsung account if prompted

8. After signing in, you should be redirected to the app

9. It should list the devices available

Known Issues Reported by Oculus on Casting Quest 2 to Samsung Smart TV

1. Some Samsung smart TVs or any other smart TV with built-in cast feature may not be compatible with Quest 2. This is why Oculus only officially support using a Chromecast device

2. If you are recording a programme while casting Quest 2 to your Samsung TV, you may experience issues either with the casting or with the recording

3. You need to leave the Oculus app open on your phone. Closing or even minimizing it may stop the casting

4. Casting is power-intensive. If your phone battery drains quickly while casting Quest 2, this is normal

Samsung TVs Compatible with Oculus Quest 2

Samsung TVs from the 2016 models and above have easy compatibility with Quest 2. This does not mean that Quest 2 will not work on older models but the experience may not be very good.

Also, it is important to ensure that your Samsung TV is up to date before casting Quest 2 to it. Casting Oculus Quest 2 on out-of-date Samsung TVs may result in glitches and other kinds of malfunction.

However, if you encounter any issues casting your Quest 2 to a Samsung TV, then read on to find solutions to the common problems users encounter with casting.

1. Your TV Doesn’t Have an HDMI Port

There are three proven ways through which you can cast Quest 2 to your Samsung TV:

• Cast directly to Samsung TV if the TV has a built-in Chromecast or other cast feature. This does NOT require an HDMI port
• Cast first to phone, then mirror phone on Samsung TV. This does NOT require an HDMI port
• Cast to Samsung TV using a Chromecast device. This requires an HDMI port.

Fix – Cast Without Chromecast

We have provided steps on how to cast for all the three scenarios. So, if your Samsung TV does not have an HDMI port, you could cast directly to your Samsung TV if it has built-in casting, or cast to your phone and mirror your phone on Samsung TV.

How To Check If My Samsung TV Has Built-in Casting

1. Press the Home button on your remote control

2. Select Settings

3. Select Apps

4. Select All Apps

5. Check if Chromecast or any other casting feature is listed

2. WIFI Connection is Poor

If your WIFI connection is poor, it has nothing to do with casting Quest 2 on your Samsung TV. There are vast number of reasons why your WIFI connection is poor and we will explore them in detail.

3. Glitch in Router

Sometimes, your router may overheat or store too much electric charge that need to be dissipated. It may also be that the receivers on the router suffered a glitch. A glitch in your router usually either goes away on its own or requires a restart to resolve it

Fix – Restart Router

To fix the glitch on your router and continue enjoying your casting, you need to restart the router following the steps below:

1. Unplug the router from power supply

2. Wait two minutes

3. Plug the router back in and wait until the Connected light shows

Then check and see if the connection is OK

4. TV or Headset Far from Router

Another factor that affects your WIFI connection is the distance between your router and your Samsung TV or your Quest 2 headset. Virtual reality games require very strong internet connections unless you are playing an already download game in single player mode.

Fix – Reduce Distance

You need to ensure that your Samsung TV and your Quest 2 headset are no farther than 30 meters from a standard router. If you cannot reduce the distance, then consider getting a Wireless Range Extender or a wired WIFI Network extender.

These would rebroadcast the WIFI signals from your router to your devices. We recommend wired WIFI Network extenders for best results.

5. Too Many Devices Connected to Router

Also, if there are too many devices connected to the router already, it will impact the strength of signals reaching your Samsung TV or Quest 2 headset. The number of devices supported by a router at a time depends primarily on the power of the router, and secondarily on the internet subscription you have.

In any case, your router has a limited quality of signals it can give off, and these signals have to be shared among the connected devices. Therefore, more devices means less signals reaching each device.

Fix – Disconnect Devices

Some routers support connecting up to 30 devices actively at a time. However, when you are playing Quest 2 and casting to your Samsung TV, the requirement for internet speed goes up exponentially. Therefore, you need to disconnect devices that do not have to be connected at the time and see if that improves your WIFI connection.

6. Interference from Electronic Devices

If you have electronic devices that use radio frequency such as baby monitors, Bluetooth devices, cordless phone and microwave ovens, their signals may interfere with your WIFI signals and cause poor connection for your Samsung TV and Quest 2 headset.

Fix – Reduce Interference

To resolve this problem, you need to either move the interfering devices far away from the router, or bring the router much closer to your TV and headset.

Additional Notes:

If your router is not in the same room as your Samsung TV and headset, ensure that there is a clear line of sight between them. That is, that signals are not being obstructed by thick walls and other structures.

7. Problem With ISP

The poor WIFI connection you are experiencing may be because your internet service provider is having difficulties with providing strong internet access to your area. To test for this, connect your mobile phone or PC to the same WIFI and then try to stream online.

Fix – Contact ISP

If you are able to connect to the internet but with poor speed, this will make your Quest 2 not to work. After testing with your PC or phone and you have determined that the problem is with your ISP, run a speed test on fast.com and provide the results to your ISP when you contact them.

The test will take a few seconds and the values will change during this time. Wait for the test to complete and a static figure is displayed on your screen. That is the figure you will provide your ISP.

8. TV and Oculus Aren’t on The Same Network

Casting Quest 2 to your Samsung TV requires both devices to be on the same WIFI connection. That is the only way the devices will discover and communicate with each other.

If your TV and your Oculus are not on the same network, they will not discover each other and the casting will not work.

Fix – Make Sure All Connecting Devices Are on the Same Network

Whether you are casting from Oculus app to your Samsung TV using Chromecast; or you are casting to your phone and then mirroring your screen using Smart View/SmartThings/Airplay; or you are casting directly from your headset to your Chromecast device; you need to ensure that all the devices involved in the casting are connected to the same WIFI network.

The devices include your Samsung TV, Chromecast device, Oculus headset, and the phone on which you have your Oculus app.

9. You Haven’t Set TV Up for Chromecast

As at the time of writing this article, Samsung TVs do not have an inbuilt Chromecast. However, the latest models may have some other inbuilt casting features. If your TV does not have such feature, then you need to set it up to use a Chromecast device.

Apart from casting your Quest 2 headset onto your Samsung TV, Chromecast also allows you to stream content from streaming sites like Netflix and HBO, and bypass some of the issues that come with streaming directly on your Samsung TV.

Fix – Set Up TV for Chromecast

Please follow the steps provided under How to Set Up Chromecast at the beginning of this article. Also, please note:

• Use only the power adapter that comes with the Chromecast device
• Your Google Home app has to be up to date
• Your Google app has to be up to date
• You can only use a Google account to set up Chromecast. So, if you are an iPhone user and don’t have a Google account, you would need to create one during setup
• For WIFI network, WPA-2 Enterprise network is not supported for Chromecast
• Chromecast setup will not work on a free, public WIFI. Especially one that uses a captive portal
• Google Home app will only run on Android 8 or later and iOS 14 or later
• You cannot set up Chromecast using a computer. You must use a mobile device

10. Your Oculus Quest 2 Isn’t Turned On

You may have noted that in all the casting steps provided in this article, we always started with turning on your Quest 2 headset. The reason is that, even though you’re not watching or playing on the headset, it is the content on the headset that you are casting.

Your Quest 2 headset is the virtual reality engine that obtains and delivers the VR games and apps to you. Therefore, if the headset is turned off, there would be nothing to cast onto your Samsung TV.

Fix – Turn on your Quest 2 Headset

Before commencing any casting step, make sure that your Quest 2 headset is turned on, and that it has completed booted to the Home page. If you have any issues booting your headset, you need to resolve it first before proceeding with the casting steps provided in this article.

11. The App You Are Using Doesn’t Support Casting

Like we mentioned earlier in this article, not all apps or games on Oculus Quest 2 support casting onto a secondary device. This feature is at the discretion of the app developer and not of Oculus.

When you try to cast an app that does not support casting, you will either be notified or the screen will just not mirror.
