How do I get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls without a car?

Hi guys, me and my girlfriend plan to visit the fall next week. Unfortunately I don't hold a driving license so we cannot rent a car. What's the cheap way to go directly from Buffalo airport to the fall? I found there is a company providing shuttle service but they charge $90 for round trip per person. We also plan to stay for one night. Appreciate if someone can lead me a way. Thanks!

gee at 180 for a rountrip? Dont you think a cab might be even cheaper?

Are you staying on the American or Canadian side? If you stay on the American side or even just get dropped off and walk over the bridge, it's much cheaper ......

I'm staying on the American side. Is it possible to get a lift from the airport?

Does the hotel have a shuttle that will pick you up? The only other option might be the Metro Bus, but I dont even know where to begin in taking a bus. Their website is nfta.com. This site NFTA - Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority - Trip Planner (http://www.nfta.com/metro/trip_planner_landing.asp - broken link) will allow you to type in locations and dates/times to tell you which buses to take. You can use Seneca Niagara Casino as a destination as it is right in downtown Niagara Falls US.

I was just going to say that - call the hotel and find out if they have a shuttle, even for a nominal fee???

There are several public transportation options available.

Best option: Take the express bus that goes between the Buffalo airport and downtown Niagara Falls, NY. The good news is this would only cost a little more than 2 dollars per person. The bad news is it only leaves 5 or 6 times a day. This can be mighty inconvenient.

Not quite as good option: Take one of the buses downtown (e.g. the Genesee St bus, or the Airport-Downtown express). Get off at Division St and transfer to the #40. That drops you off within walking distance of the Rainbow Bridge. All these buses run more frequently than the Airport-Falls express, but your total trip will take much much longer and you'll pay a few more cents for zone changes. Bonus: you'll get a nice little tour of downtown Buffalo.

Least workable option: Take the Amtrak. 2 or 3 trains leave per day from the Depew Amtrak Station to Niagara Falls. I think it's like 10 or 20 dollars. You'll need to take a cab from the airport to the train station, but it's only a few miles away. The major downside is that once you get to Niagara Falls you're still a few miles away from downtown.

Actually, I'm not even sure why I gave you that third option. Unless you really love trains, it's not going to be a good idea.

This advice is a few years too late to help those people but I recently faced the same problem and the solution was fairly easy. When you get off the Amtrak (about 9:00 A.M.), catch the local bus #46A right outside the Amtrak station (9:05, 10:05 etc.) to the Galleria. Transfer to the #32C (9:19, 10:19) to Niagara street, between Amherst and Hamilton streets (ask the driver to stop there), then catch the next #40A to Niagara Falls. Get off at Rainbow Blvd. and Niagara Street, you'll be a couple of blocks from the Falls. Time: less than 2 hours; cost: less than $5, if you get a day pass from the first bus driver. Any question: contact NFTA at their website. Good luck! I enjoyed my trip!

If you are taking Amtrak to Buffalo in order to get to Niagara Falls, why get off in Buffalo in the first place? Just take Amtrak right to Niagara Falls, US.

That works if you're coming from the east on the Empire Service, but the Lake Shore Limited trains that come from Chicago don't go to Niagara Falls. I think that's what the previous poster is referring to, as the Lake Shore Limited is the line that arrives in Depew at about 9 AM.
