Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was a very successful remake package of the original two games, which left fans wondering if Activision would ever look to remake other games in the series, with 3 + 4 in particular being the ones that fans wanted. Show Well it turns out that this is exactly what was planned before Vicarious Visions, the developer of 1 + 2 were absorbed into Blizzard by Activision. Tony Hawk spoke directly about this on a Twitch stream where another skater was playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and asked about 3 + 4. Hawk said: “That was the plan (3+4). Even up until the release date of this (1+2) we were going 3 + 4 and then Vicarious got absorbed and then Activision were looking for other developers and then it was over”. Speaking about what happened next, Hawk said that “they (Activision) were trying to find someone else to do 3+4 but they didn’t trust anyone how they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios, in terms of what would you do with the Tony Hawk franchise, but they didn’t like anything they heard, so that was it. I wish there was some way to bring it back. Maybe when the dust settles”. You can watch the full video HERE. I think given Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 were such a great success, this is definitely a shame to see. We gave the game an 8/10 in our review. Developer will work solely on Blizzard games Vicarious Visions, known for its work on
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2, will merge with Blizzard Entertainment and work solely on Blizzard games moving forward. Blizzard Entertainment is known for franchises such as
Diablo, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Hearthstone. It's unknown at this time exactly which of these the old Vicarious Visions team will work on, but it's likely it will be utilised across the entire
Blizzard catalogue. This move effectively means that Vicarious Visions is no more. The brand will be defunct going forwards, and we can't expect the team to work on franchises like Spryo the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, or Tony Hawk. Whether this move will remain in place once Activision/Blizzard's
sale to Microsoft is finalised remains to be seen. What do you make of the apparent "death" of Vicarious Visions? Let us know with a comment below.
