How many scoops of formula for 8 oz bottle

New to European formula, switching formula brands, or simply new to formula? When you are switching into formula, figuring out how much formula will be needed can be a bit difficult.

At My Organic Company, we try to make this easier for you with our easy-to-read charts. We have completely updated all of our products, with the most accurate box measurements and scoop sizes for each baby formula according to the new EU regulations.

Why are there different amounts in each formula box?

Unlike American formula, each brand in Europe has the ability to choose how big they want each package of formula and how big they want each scoop to be. As such, parents must always use the scoop included for the package of formula.

You might notice that some boxes are larger, like HiPP Dutch and Kendamil. Both of these formulas have 800g of formula in each box. Whereas some formulas, like Lebenswert have 500g of formula in each of their boxes.

Furthermore, within the same brand of formula each stage may have a different size scoop. For example, Kendamil Stage One scoop is 4.3g, whereas Kendamil Stage Two scoop is 4.6g in each scoop. So mixing scoops between stages is not a good idea either.

What if I lose my scoop?

Losing a scoop is never a fun experience. Since each scoop is measured in grams, you will need a scale to measure the exact amount of powder for each scoop.

Guessing and trying to convert to teaspoons or tablespoons will not work and could possibly cause problems for baby! If you absolutely must approximate, you should never do this for more than one bottle - the proper mix of water and formula ensures baby gets all the essential nutrients.

How to calculate the number of bottles per package

The tables provided below will help you get the closest approximate amount of bottles for each package of formula. Remember, this is an estimation and not exact - as we could only round to half bottles.

Plus, the chart is helpful with showing quick information on how big each scoop is and how many grams of formula are in each box!

Pediatricians recommend 2.5 ounces of formula per pound of body weight each day. The average size of a newborn baby is about 7 pounds. So a newborn baby weighing 7 pounds would need 17.5 ounces of formula each day (7lbs x 2.5ounces = 17.5 ounces).

Using the chart below, let's say your baby needs a 3-ounce bottle six times per day.

If you were to use Kendamil, you would get 62 bottles from one can. Take the total number of bottles in each package and divide that by how many of those bottles you need each day.

For our example, 62 bottles / 6 (3oz)bottles needed per day = 10.3 days of formula. So the Kendamil can would last your baby about a week and a half.

Here's a blank formula to help you calculate for your own baby:

  1. My baby needs __A__ (?oz) bottles each day.
  2. The formula I use makes __B__ (?oz) bottles per package.
  3. Take ___B___ divide by ___A___ = ______ days of formula per package.

Conclusion

Hopefully our charts have guided you as you estimate how many boxes of formula you will need for your baby each week. Remember, as baby grows, the amount of formula needed will increase and will have to be factored in.

We suggest calculating the amount of formula per box for a month and ordering the number of boxes needed for that month. Since babies typically gain two pounds each month until six months, the amount needed should be recalculated each month.
