How much does 25 litres of water weigh

Answer: A US gallon of water weighs 8.34 lbs or 3.78 kg at 62 °F (17 °C). An imperial gallon (UK) weighs 10.022 lbs or 4.546 kg, at its most dense temperature, which is 2.20456 lbs / L at 4 °C or 39 °F.

Ballpark Calculation (for all temperatures)

1 gallon is about 3.75 liters
1 liters = 1 kilogram (density of water is 1 kg/liter)
1 kg is about 2.2 lbs
so, 3.75 kg is about 8.25 lbs and 1 gallon is about 8.25 lbs

Three Different Units of Gallon

It makes a difference which unit of gallon you are using. There are two US definitions of gallon. The US liquid gallon (most commonly used) is defined as 231 cubic inches, which is 3.785 liters, and weighs 8.344 lbs at its highest density.

The US dry gallon is defined as 1/8th of a US bushel, which is 268.8025 cubic inches or 4.405 L. The weight of a US dry gallon is 9.711 lbs of water at its highest density.

The UK gallon or imperial gallon originally was defined as 10 lbs of water, but the modern definition is exactly 4.54609 L or 10.02 lbs of water at its maximum density.

Effect of Water Temperature on Weight

Cold water is more dense than ice or than warm water or liquid just above freezing. This is an unusual property of the substance, resulting from hydrogen bonding. So, a gallon of warm water would weigh slightly less than a gallon of cold water. The exact difference would depend on the temperatures in question, but it doesn’t affect the value by much.

Of course, gravity affects weight too, so a gallon of water (or anything else) would weigh more on Jupiter than on Earth, while it would weigh less on the Moon than Earth.

Easy Way to Remember the Weight of Water

While you’ll want to keep the exact volume definitions in mind for scientific calculations, for everyday use you can remember the weight of water using the simple rhyme: A pint’s a pound, the world round.

The saying refers to the rough equivalence between 16 fluid ounces (a pint) and 16 ounces avoirdupois weight. A gallon is 4 quarts or 8 pints, so a gallon weighs approximately 8 lbs.

Let me explain, the temperature is simple, if the water is heated it causes the molecules to expand – to move apart. So a container that has a volume of 1 gallon will weigh less than one that has cold water in it, as the molecules are closer together and so can fit more water into the container.
As an experiment weigh a pint, or a liter, of water at home that is cold and then boil the water – now reweigh the same heated pint, or liter of water, and see the weight has gone down.

Location

The ‘where’ is more complex. Basically the altitude (pressure) also effects the weight as does gravity etc. But far too complex for our needs in this summary.
More importantly the where in terms of US or UK location makes a big difference. You see a liter is the same in both but a gallon is not.

Metric System (Liters or Litres)

The metric system using liters (litres in UK and Europe) is fairly straightforward. At a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius (39.2ºF), exposed to standard atmospheric pressure of 101.325 kPa, 1cm³ of water is 1ml, and weighs 1 gram. 1 Liter of water (1000ml) weighs 1kg (1000g).

Simple to remember that 1 liter of water weighs 1 kilogram. (at 4ºC).

Gallons – the confusion begins!

A gallon in the US and UK are not the same measure!

In the US 1 gallon of water is 128 fluid ounces, or 3.785 liters. In the UK it is 160 fluid ounces, or 4.546 litres.

It is best that we stick to comparing liters because just as the size of a gallon differs so does the size of a fluid ounce.

(1 Imperial fluid ounce = 0.9607603 US fluid ounces.)

The point to note is that a UK gallon is a little over 20% bigger than a US gallon.

For example, a 50 Gallon Tank in UK would hold 60 US Gallons of water.

Water Weight

The following two tables identify how much water weighs at a room temperature of 70°F / 21°C and 80°F / 26.7°C.  Most aquariums at home will be within this range.

What is the weight of 25 litre water?

In principle - it's 2kg because the density of pure distilled water is normally taken to be 1kg/liter.

How many kg is 25l of water?

Liter to Kilogram Conversion Table.

Does 1 litre of water weigh 1 kg?

One litre of liquid water has a mass of almost exactly one kilogram, due to the gram being defined in 1795 as one cubic centimetre of water at the temperature of melting ice.

How much does 20 Litres of water weigh?

Assuming that the density of water is 1 gram per cubic centimeter, 1 liter of water weighs 1 kg and 75 liters weighs 75 kg. 1 kg is 2.20462 pounds. So, 75 kg would be 165.347 pounds = 165.4 pounds approx.
