How much does a JK Wrangler weigh?

Thanks, wasn't 100% sure on the number. Extra weight is armor, tires, heavier engine? What gas milage does Moby usually get?

Engine is almost the same weight as a 3.8L. Most of what makes Moby heavy is the ProRock 80, ProRock 60 and bead lock wheels and tires that weigh almost 200 lbs. each. We run factory skids so the only real armor weight would be the front bumper w/winch, sliders and skins. It's the gear we carry that adds up the rest. Still, with the LS pushing us along, we can still get as much as 13 MPG and more if I drive conservatively. I should note that this is about 3-4 MPG better than what we were getting with our 3.8L.

LOL!! Indeed it can

The two-door versions of the Jeep Wrangler typically weigh between 3,970 lbs and 4,200 lbs. This difference in weight is due to the different trims that are offered. The base trim, for instance, is on the lower end of the spectrum. The Unlimited Sport edition, however, is slightly heavier, clocking in at 4,200 pounds. The difference is in engines, as well as in accessories and features. By default, the Wrangler comes with a V6 3.6L Pentastar engine. If You choose to upgrade, You can opt for a 2.0L Direct-Injection Turbo engine, which allows for an additional 270 horsepower and 295 foot-pounds of torque.

A two door jeep wrangler can weigh anywhere between 3,970 lbs. To 4.439 Lbs depending on which options it has.

It is certainly worth mentioning that there are exciting electric options in the 2021 pipeline for the Jeep Wrangler lineup. Enter the 4xe!

Jeep Wrangler 4xe (Hybrid) Weight By Trim

An exciting and historic inclusion to the 2021 Jeep lineup is its first-ever hybrid plug-in, the 4xe. Instead of the classic 4x4 markings emblazoned across the body, in its place reads an embossed 4xe tag boasting an eco-friendly powertrain with the ability to match and perform the same technical feats as its gasoline-powered cohort.

As may be expected, these hybrid models will weigh less than the same non-hybrid models because of the difference in hardware and component weight. The approximate weight differential will be close to 300 lbs but could exceed that weight depending on the model. The only models currently in pre-production as 4xe optional are the Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude. The information available as of now provides these details on price and weight:

Sahara Unlimited 4xe

  • Base Price: $49,500
  • 4 Door - 5,100

Rubicon Unlimited 4xe

  • Base Price: $53,200
  • 4 Door- 5,222

Sahara High Altitude Unlimited  4xe

  • Base Price: $55,100
  • 4 Door - 5,100

It is yet to be determined which other Jeep family vehicles may be eligible for this modern eco upgrade. The smart money is on more models and trims being made available in the not too distant future.

JK Series Jeep Vs. JL Series Jeep

Due to the classic nature of Jeeps, we often forget that there have been many iterations and revisions to models and vehicle design. While the core has remained consistent, the materials and the technology have improved; therefore, tit for tat comparisons are hard to make.

JK generation series Jeeps (2007-2018) saw their last showroom floor as of late 2017, and by the end of 2018, the revamped JL model series (2018-present) was introduced into the market. What were the production differences? The interior and exterior, including the and hardware/components used in those sections, received upgrades. All production transitioned to remain in line with the competition by only sourcing and using the highest quality materials and cutting-edge technologies.

Interior

Compared to the previous JK Jeep models, the current 2021 generation JL version is markedly larger and more spacious. The improved level of space for driver, passenger, and cargo/storage resulted from revisioned bodywork.

Waterproof fabrics and materials are now stock features for Jeeps, as are the innovative built-in drainage system to aid in post off-roading cleanings.

Technological upgrades to the interior have also made the UConnect entertainment system available across all Jeep models and products, a more than welcome replacement to the dated infotainment system.

Exterior

When upgrades were made to match the new vision of Jeep innovation, a decision was made to rely more heavily on high-strength steel in vehicle bodies' fabrication and bodywork. A bulk of the door, hoods, and fenders have now been pressed from high-quality aluminum, lighter-weight than previous generations.

This combination has helped eliminate unnecessary weight from the vehicle without sacrificing the durability and rugged appeal. Weight elimination has paid off because the axle has been stretched to accommodate larger wheel dimensions.

How Tall Is A Jeep Wrangler?

A stock, fresh off the manufacturing line, 2021 Wrangler stands at approximately 74 inches, or 6 feet 2 inches tall. Of course, this height is something that can be modified with a simple tire swap or vehicle lift.

There are limitations to what you can safely do, so be sure to do your due diligence when entertaining the notion of a vehicle lift. Vehicle upgrades of that nature will likely require the assistance of a licensed and experienced mechanic to ensure the best possible installation outcome.

For kit and customization compatibility questions, refer to Jeep's website to find detailed manufacturing information and the kit builders manufacturing specs.

How Much Do Jeep Wrangler Doors Weigh?

JL Aluminum fabricated doors are 12 pounds lighter than the predecessor JK's. The front doors on the vehicle weigh approximately 47 pounds. The rear doors may weigh as much as 34 pounds. This is mentionable because JK models boasted a 20% heavier door than the JL, which shows how adjustments in the production have managed to remove excess weight from the vehicle body without sacrificing the ability to perform.

If you were looking to shed more door weight over the longer seasonal period, you may choose to buy your own custom door attachments that could help cut weight as needed for offroading.

How Much Does A Jeep's Hardtop Weigh?

Hardtops were features whose production shifted from exclusive steel and metalwork towards a combination of high-grade aluminum and steel.

This material change makes for a more lightweight hardtop than the previous Wrangler generations, with the 2-door hardtops weighing approximately 90 lbs and the 4-door hardtops weighing approximately 140 lbs. Both weights are considered manageable to take on and off independently.

Of course, if you have space available, you could always look to purchase a removal system to simplify the installation and removal of hardtops as needed.
