The highly anticipated Yamaha YXZ1000R was announced late summer of 2016. Boasting a high-performance 3-cylinder 998cc engine with a class-defining 5-speed sequential shift manual transmission, the two-seat YXZ1000R provides a unique driver-connected experience offered by no other manufacturer. As the industrys first sport 3-cylinder engine, it boasts an aggressive 11.3:1 compression ratio and 10,500 RPM redline to provide a true sport SxS experience. But when compared to the Polaris RZR XP Turbo and and the Can-Am Maverick X3, the naturally aspirated YXZ1000R couldn’t compete head-to-head when it came to horsepower. While we are sure that Yamaha won’t sit on the sidelines for too long in these days of horsepower wars, in the meantime there are some options available from the aftermarket. Most performance aftermarket companies tend to go the route of a turbocharger, but for the Yamaha YXZ1000R Packard Performance is also offering a Supercharger. Looking at the difference between the two the supercharger will take its power from the crankshaft whereas the turbocharger will draw power from exhaust gases that result from combustion.  YAMAHA YXZ1000R SUPER CHARGER FROM PACKARD PERFORMANCE According to Packard Performance, their super charger kit is designed and built to run on the OEM engine internals at 4-6 psi with pump gas and will net you 50+ hp gain to the wheels. That will take the YXZ1000R’s stock 112HP and put it at 162HP which slots it right between the RZR XP Turbo at 168HP and the Maverick X3 at 154HP. The kit is designed to work with with manual transmission YXZ1000R and Sport Shift YXZ1000R SS and is priced at $2,695.
