How painful is arm lift surgery?

This accumulation of tissues may have developed as part of an individual’s genetics, lifestyle or a significant amount of weight loss. Typically, when the arms are elevated, the excess fat and skin appear to hang beneath the arms.

Dr Chaithan Reddy uses multiple surgical techniques to remove excess tissue from the arms and create more aesthetically pleasing contours that give the upper body a slimmer, healthier appearance.

How painful is arm lift surgery?

The arm lift procedure

During the arm lift surgery (which is performed either under general anaesthetic), the excess skin and fat are removed from your arms. Often, the surgical technique involves the use of liposuction to help break up the fat while not harming nerves or lymphatic channels. Post-surgery, Dr Reddy will meet with you to see how you’re feeling, and to make sure that you are at ease and prepared for the recovery process. You can choose to leave the hospital on the day of the procedure or stay overnight.

Arm Lift Incisions

Brachioplasty is a very effective way of removing the extra fat and skin from the arm region. The incisions range from ‘short scar’ to ‘traditional’ incisions, depending upon what needs to be achieved. If applicable, Dr Reddy may be able to hide the incisions in the armpit region. Alternatively, in select cases where the skin tone is preserved, liposuction alone may address your concerns.

Arm lift surgery recovery

We recommend that you refrain from engaging in vigorous physical activities for a month after your surgery in order to minimise the risk of bruising, bleeding or swelling. We also advise you to take at least two weeks off work after your operation, but if your work is sedentary you can return after one week if you prefer. A thin compression garment is routinely worn for six weeks to reduce swelling and promote healing.

Throughout the time that you are recovering from your arm lift surgery, you will come in for regular check-ups in order for us to monitor your progress. During your first visit, 5-7 days after the operation, we will remove your dressings and teach you how to tape the incision lines and care for your wounds.

Dr Reddy will also provide you with additional recovery tips that will help make the process much smoother.

Arm lift surgery results

The results of the surgery will be immediately evident, with a noticeable difference in the contour of your arms once the dressings have been removed. Healing is complete once all bruising and swelling have subsided completely, allowing you to see the final results about 3 months after the surgery.

Combining Surgical Procedures

An arm lift is usually performed to eliminate loose, hanging skin from the lower arms. In some instances, the loose skin extends beyond the arm pit and down the side of the chest. In these cases, Dr Reddy can perform an extended brachiopasty and lateral chest lift to comprehensively address all of the affected areas. This can be very effective in addressing the loose skin that tends to bulge over one’s side bra straps.

If you’re a candidate for brachioplasty surgery, Dr Reddy may also perform the procedure in conjunction with other surgeries that address excess fat, such as a breast lift, tummy tuck, or thigh lift. Keep in mind that combining procedures will affect the duration of the surgery and the recovery time required.
