How to allocate more RAM to Apex Legends

Apex crashed because it ran out of memory. Trying to allocate 253.3GB of memory.

Apex Crash - Out of Memory

Apex crashed because it ran out of memory.

The most common causes of this are:

• Your installed files are corrupt. Repairing the game may fix this.

• "Texture Streaming Budget" is too high in your video settings. Lowering this can help.

• All other programs plus Apex combine to use too much memory. Quitting other programs can help.

• Your Windows page file is set too small. Increasing the page file size can help. (The page file lets Windows move less important memory to disk until it's needed again.)

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
• Apex was using 3.6 GB of physical memory.
• Apex was using 79.1 GB of virtual memory.
• Apex failed to allocate 253.3 GB of memory.

• Your PC has 32.0 GB of memory physically installed.
• Your PC has 128.0 TB of virtual memory (with the page file).
• After Apex exited, your PC memory load is about 24%.

The VRAM stores the textures that the game needs.

Things like effects and processing details are handled by the GPU.

You can see this by reducing the frame buffer amount to none and watch the textures go all blurry.

The frame buffer will help improve the fps because the data/textures the GPU needs is right infront of it.

So the GPU wont have to wait for the data to come from storage to the vram.

As the description mentions in game for frame buffer "16GB of RAM is reccomended for settings beyond high"

Now if the description was accurate then i should be using more ram but im not.

Overview

Modpacks are a great way to spice up your gameplay experience, there are thousands of fun packs out there and many different launchers you can use that allows you to play with ease of access. While modpacks are a lot of fun, some of them can be quite resource-intensive. Many times by default, the launchers will not allocate enough ram to support some of the bigger packs even if your server hosting plan is large enough. Each launcher is slightly different but it’s not difficult to allocate more ram. We will walk you through the process of doing so on some of the main launchers.

How to Add More RAM to your Minecraft Server

Getting the correct version of Java
If you do not have the right version of Java installed, you won’t be able to allocate more than the default amount of ram to the game. If you are wanting to allocate more ram, download Java 8 64 bit first. You can download it here.

Default Minecraft Launcher

  1. Open Minecraft and go to the Installations tab.
  2. To the right of your version, press the 3 dots and click edit.
  3. Press the More Options drop-down and locate JVM ARGUMENTS. You will see something similar to “-Xmx2G -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions”
  4. What you will want to focus on is the -Xmx2G. The 2 represents the current amount of allocated ram, in this case it is 2gb.
  5. You can change this to your desired amount, for example, you can change it to -Xmx4G to allocate 4gb of ram. Make sure that your computer can handle what you are changing it to.

CurseForge App

  1. Open the Curse App and click the settings icon to the bottom left.
  2. Navigate to the Minecraft tab and scroll down to Java Settings.
  3. You will see a bar that says Allocated Memory.
  4. Drag the bar to adjust the amount of ram you have allocated to Minecraft. Make sure you do not allocate more than your computer can handle.

Voidswrath

  1. Open the Voidswrath Launcher and to the top right press “Options”.
  2. Look for Minecraft Options, press the memory dropdown and set it to your desired amount.
  3. Once you change it, you are all set to launch the game.

ATLauncher

  1. Open the ATLauncher and press Settings to the bottom right of the launcher.
  2. Go to the Java/Minecraft tab, then locate Maximum Memory/Ram.
  3. Here, you can change the amount of ram that is being allocated. Once you set it to your desired amount, you are good to launch the game.

Technic

  1. Open the Technic Launcher and to the top right press Launcher Options.
  2. Navigate to the Java Settings tab and locate Memory.
  3. In the Memory dropdown, you can allocate the desired amount. Once you change it, you are good to launch the game.

FTB App

  1. Open the FTB App and go to the “Library” tab, then click on the modpack icon.
  2. Head towards “Settings” and locate the “Instance Memory” option.
  3. Drag the bar to adjust the amount of memory allocated. Make sure that you keep this reasonable.

Common Issues

Launcher not allowing more than 2gb of ram
If you try to change the allocated amount of ram but it doesn’t show an option over 2gb, this generally means that you do not have the correct version of java installed. You will need to close the launcher and download Java 8 64 bit from here. Once this is installed, if you go back to the launcher it should allow you to allocate more than the default amount of ram.

Game is crashing or not responding
This is generally due to not enough ram being allocated. If you are experiencing a lot of lag in-game or the launcher is freezing/crashing, you will likely need to allocate more ram.
