Ice can be mined with a Pickaxe enchanted with Silk Touch I. Mining Ice grants +0.5

Ice cannot be mined on any of the public islands except the Jerry Pond on the Jerry Island. There are currently four methods for obtaining ice for the collection.

1. Mining the ice on the Jerry Pond using a Silk Touch I Pickaxe.
2. Alternatively, the player can use a Taiga Biome Stick to turn the biome into a Taiga and wait for the water to spontaneously turn into ice. It should be noted that this method is very slow. If the player has already collected enough ice to create an Ice minion, mining the ice that the minion generates is by far the most efficient way of obtaining ice.
3. Killing Frozen Steve, Frosty, Frozen Adventurer, or a Yeti will make them drop Ice. Picking up the Ice will count towards your collection.
4. You can also obtain Ice by using the Ice Rod with its 25% chance of catching Ice while fishing.

1. Acquire a pair of Boots enchanted with Frost Walker I or Frost Walker II, then walk over a water source or flowing water block to turn the water into ice and mine the ice with a Silk Touch I Pickaxe. (Only works if there is a Taiga Biome Stick activated)

Trivia[]

• Frost Walker-enchanted boots used to count towards unlocking the ice collection, but this was removed after an unknown update.
• The ice required to make all special crafts amounts to 21,470,801. That's the total for all Ice Minion tiers, the Magical Water Bucket, the Frozen Scythe, Frozen Blaze Armor, the Auger Rod, and the Yeti Sword. It is inadvisable to manually collect the ice required to craft these items.
• You can get 40 Enchanted Ice worth from the Builder each day.
• While Frost Walker ice does not count towards the collection and does not grant Mining experience, it does count towards and can activate the Compact enchantment to produce Enchanted Ice. This is not a particularly fast or efficient way of producing material, but it is an option for a little bit of extra ice.
