Melee UsersIn Phase 1 the Dragonkin Soldier attacks with large slow movements that cover wide areas. These can be avoided by rolling or running out of the attack zone without significant issue. Tanking these attacks is possible with high enough stamina and poise, but may not allow for a counterattack. Take care to avoid running or dodging forward towards the stomach of the Soldier. Short or mid-reach melee weapons will struggle to reach a portion of the Soldier that can be damaged due to the large belt the Soldier is wearing preventing the player from running forward far enough to strike. This can be addressed by moving forward and to the left or right to reach the Soldiers elbows or knees. Whenever possible the player should be attempting to get behind the Soldier, between its feet. The Soldier can only damage this area with a limited number of attacks, and the legs are large enough to easily attack while moving. It seems to be possible to push the player character against the inside of the left knee of the Soldier where the player will be pushed along by the Soldiers leg when it attempts to turn to face the player. This location is still susceptible to the double hand ground slam attack, and the player can be damaged or dislodged during the forward rush attack. In Phase 2 the Dragonkin Soldier charges itself with frost lightning. Two new attacks are added in this phase, where the Dragonkin Soldier either flies up and backwards to rush forward with a swooping punch or rears up or throws frost lightning at the ground for a delayed area of effect attack [update these with proper attack-names when known] . These attacks apply frostbite buildup. The frostbite status effect should be avoided however possible due to the danger of reduced damage absorption and stamina recovery when fighting against an opponent that deals high damage rapidly. When the frost lightning attack is used the player should remove lockon from the Soldier and run laterally out of the damage zone. Rolling may not be adequate to escape the damage area, and the Soldier may string multiple frost lightning attacks together while the player is at midrange, so running out of the area and closing the distance between the player and Soldier should be prioritized. Beyond addressing these new attacks the strategy for fighting the Soldier remains largely unchanged. If an Ash summon is used, avoid stationary or slow summons. If the summon damages the Soldier and draws aggro they may be attacked and destroyed before the player is able to regain aggro, particularly in the second phase where the Soldier is capable of crossing the area rapidly to attack the summon. Given the high damage and wide area of effect of most attacks a more durable or mobile summon should be prioritized. Any ash summon capable of applying poison, rot or bleed buildup is recommended.
