How to place chests next to each other in Hypixel skyblock

I'm pretty new to skyblock and I was going to make a storage system but I found out I can't place chests next to each other, i'm not sure if this is a glitch or a game design. Does anybody know?

You cant place chests next to eachother below 1.12.2. If you want to place chests next to eachother, alternate between trapped and normal chests.

You can't place 3 chests of the same type next to each other in 1.8. Like:
XOX
OCO
OCO
XOX
C stands for Chests.
You can't place chests on O's but you can place on X's. If you want your system to be compact, use trapped chest instead

...No, that was added in 1.13. Before then, you could not place regular chests next to other regular chests.
