How to remove copyright claim on Facebook page

If your video has a Content ID claim, there may be restrictions on where the video is viewable or whether it can be monetized. To remove the claim and the associated restrictions, you can edit out the claimed content without having to upload a new video.

If done successfully, any of these options will automatically clear a Content ID claim:

  • Trim out segment: You can edit out just the claimed segment from your video.
  • Replace song: If the audio in your video is claimed, you may be able to replace the claimed audio with other audio from the YouTube Audio Library.
  • Mute song: If the audio in your video is claimed, you may be able to mute the claimed audio. You can choose to mute just the song or all the video's audio.

Take steps to get past a copyright violation you received for a video you posted to Facebook if you feel the copyright claim was filed in error. Any person or corporate entity may file a copyright claim against a video that you post to your profile if they claim to own the copyright to its audio or video. Until you have filed and won a counter notice, you can't re-post the video to your Facebook account without having it removed again.

  1. 1.

Log in to your email inbox. Open the email Facebook sent you that notified you of the video removal.

  2. 2.

Click the link beside the text "To File a Counter Notice, Click Here." Confirm your email address, name and contact information and supply a statement that explains why the initial claim was erroneous, including any proof you have that you own the copyright. If you created the video from scratch, for example, explain that all aspects of the video are your own idea and work. Click "Submit."

  3. 3.

Check your email regularly for an update from Facebook. Once you receive an email informing you that your counter notice was successful, it's possible to re-post the video without incurring consequences. If you re-post the video before the claim is resolved, Facebook removes it, and if the investigation ends in the other party's favor, you may lose account privileges temporarily or permanently.
