I hate going to the bank

People at the bank act way too fucking friendly. The moment I walk in I'm being greeted by like 3 different people in every direction. I finally get to the teller and they always ask how my day was. I don't want to explain my day to her because I know she doesn't actually give a shit. By the time I'm done with the teller I feel like a piece of shit for not engaging in a conversation with her. I finally get to the door and when half of my body is already outside the bank somebody yells "have a nice day" so I have to turn my entire fucking head and say "you too". It's just fucking weird how nice they are. I just want to deposit a fucking check.

It is not very often that I decide to pay the bank a visit, but when I do, oh boy, it pretty much takes me an hour just to get out of that place. I think if visiting the bank was all about checking my savings, I’ll be done reading my three digit saving figure in 2 minutes. Alas, visiting a bank is not all about that. A simple work at the bank may require various documents and multiple visits to finish it. That gets me to the topic at hand, 7 things that annoy us about going to the bank. Read on.

1. Reality check!

The only time we love the bank is when they send us the message- salary credited. From there on starts a love-hate relationship where we try to completely avoid visiting the bank and if do have to, the one thing that we hate is asking for a bank statement. No, I don’t want to know how poor I am. I rather live pretending I’m richer than the queen (thank you credit card, I love you).

2. The long queues to deposit money

What’s with these super-long queues at the deposit counter? Here I am voluntarily ready to pay the bank some money and all they do is make me stand in a line! Please just take my money before I change my mind.

3. The inconvenient bank timings

9am to 3pm? Dear banks, please give us an evening slot. We promise not to disappoint you. Every time I decide to go to the bank, I’m either running late for work or getting swamped by calls from my boss and don’t even get me started on the idea of alternate working Saturdays. Removing some time out for the bank has become even more important than removing time for my partner!

4. Closing your account is never easy

The relationship manager at the bank will pull every string possible to convince you what a terrible idea it is. What’s more, he/she may even offer to up your credit limit on the very credit card you want to get rid of. Remember how hard Ross and Chandler tried to quit the bank!

5. If closing your account is a task, neither is opening an account a trouble-free one!

The paper work required is never ending and the procedure a long one with endless promises. Sometimes you are not sure what you’re getting in the bargain of an account and what are the charges levied on your account. If you really want to be sure about what you’re getting into and want the real deal with no false promises, head straight to IDFC Bank to open an account in just 4 minutes.

6. Changing the account nomination name/removing a name from the account

Not only are you flooded with endless questions regarding the sudden change you’ve decided to make but are also handed out different forms which you have to fill. After this, there is a month long wait for the change to actually reflect in your account.

7. Being treated like a number

I get it that my account number is my identification at the bank, but a little courtesy won’t spoil the fun.

The next time you visit the bank, remember, you are not alone.

Why do people hate the banks?

The first is society's lack of understanding of banking and bank operations, a concern exacerbated by banks' lack of transparency and a history of profiting on information asymmetry. The second is a fundamental distrust of banks as a result of a history of predatory behavior.

What are bank tellers?

A Bank Teller, or Bank Clerk, is a bank employee who helps clients of the bank with routine financial transactions. Their day-to-day duties include making deposits, handling withdrawals and issuing money orders or cashier's checks to bank customers.
