I Will Be What I Believe Friend Magazine

A couple months ago I received a brand-new songbook called, “I Will Be What I Believe”. This songs in this songbook are beautiful and would make a great addition to any Primary program.

Blake Gillette created this songbook as a way to inspire the children and ward primary groups. His Primary music journey all started with a challenge from his wife, Kaicie, when she said, “Hey, you should write a Primary song.” She was the Primary chorister and Blake was her sleepy pianist. They had been a music duo in their ward for a couple of years, and she wanted some fresh music.  Feeling up to the challenge, he said, “Yes!”

Blake thought about his favorite stories of the Church: Joseph Smith, the pioneers, the stripling warriors, Nephi, and missionaries, and decided to roll them all up into one great song. At the time, he had also been studying one of his all-time favorite talks: “The Challenge to Become” by Dallin H. Oaks from the October 2000 general conference. Elder Oaks describes that the gospel isn’t about knowing something, but it is in fact about “becoming” something. That is how, “I Will Be What I Believe” was born.

You may have seen the beautiful music video for, “I Will Be What I Believe”floating around Facebook, if not take a few minutes and go watch it, HERE! You can also read a little bit more about Blake’s Songbook and hear a sample of each song included in the songbook while you’re there.

With a new year quickly approaching, many Primary singing time leaders are thinking about songs for next year. Singing Time leaders have to think of songs not only for the Primary Program, but for holidays as well. You will find a beautiful Mother’s Day Mash-up included in Blake’s songbook as well as a beautiful arrangement that combines “When He Comes Again” and “Joy to the World”that would make the perfect special musical number for Christmas. Some more of my favorites from his songbook include, “My Heavenly Father Loves Me-I Feel My Savior’s Love,” “One Eternal Round,” and “I Lived in Heaven”. If you would like to add some beautiful arrangements to your Primary be sure to visit Blake’s website and take a look at his songbook, “I Will Be What I Believe”.

“The ‘I Will Be What I Believe’ songbook includes 13 songs and a CD. These beautiful LDS Primary Arrangements feature classic Primary tunes and all new pieces, like ‘Heavenly Father Loves Me’ and ‘I Will Be What I Believe.’ With music and lyrics focused on gospel truths, these songs are perfect for young voices.”

I hope you’ll stop by Blake’s website. We have been listening to the CD, and my children love it. They always ask to listen to the first song (“I Will Be What I Believe”). 🙂

What are some of your favorite Primary songs that you would love to see a new arrangement for?

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!
