At the town’s northern edge, Perrine Coulee Falls tumbles over a cliff.

Slide 1 of 1

We were coming up from Outdoor Retailer in Salt Lake City, so our Idaho road trip began in Twin Falls. Located in the southeastern part of the state, Twin Falls has a high desert climate, but it’s proximity to the Snake River means it has abundant access to water. Driving across the Perrine Bridge that spans the Snake River Canyon at sunset was one of the coolest entrances we’ve ever had to a new city.

Lucky Peak State Park

State park with picnic pavilions, fishing & trails, plus a beach with swimming, marina & boat ramps.

Slide 1 of 3

Such a great destination, just 25 minutes from downtown Boise! Picturesque both the drive and the park itself, gorgeous backdrops paired with a soothing sound of running water. Please make a reservation for their bbq area ( theirs is a big gazebo to guarantee plenty of shade ) for group parties! There’s a fantastic walking and biking path that is smooth and protected with a rail on one side. Bathrooms were clean and the daily fee to use the park was seven dollars. Make sure to bring cash for the service fee. So go, what are you waiting for! You won’t regret it!

Beautiful picnic area & beach! Bathrooms were locked for the season, but there were port-a-potties. We rode bikes down the greenbelt from Julia Davis Park to Lucky Peak. Beautiful, hour ride.

Such a great little spot:) Sandy beach is definitely a nice place to cool off and spend time with family and friends. They have adequate parking and bathroom facilities. They also have a little store to rent paddle boards and snacks.

Bruneau Dunes State Park

State park

Nature & Parks

Campground

Expansive park offers hiking & equestrian trails, plus water/sand sports, an observatory & camping.

Slide 1 of 3

Been there two different times. I still find it amazing how all the sand got here. (I have a couple photos of the signs that talk about it) Climbed one of the hills the first time we went and caught an epic sunset. (Check out the photos) Then checked out the water with my kids the next time we were in the area. Be careful when it's hot out the sand in very hot. There are warning signs about it. It would be amazing to see the stars here on a clear night. Please pick up trash if you see it and leave it better than you came. Help preserve these places for future generations.

Did I know Idaho had sand dunes? Nope. Did anyone know they had dunes? Probably not. Let me tell you though… they were insanely amazing! I hiked one of the smaller ones, and I thought I was in decent shape, but the dune proved otherwise. It’s October so it was a little chilly and VERY windy. I was afraid if I climbed a bigger one, I would have been blown all the way back to the East coast. As amazing as the dunes were, the surrounding trails and lake offered even more breathtaking views. I saw a lot of ducks, geese, birds and flowers. I was in total awe of the whole experience. Idaho has definitely proved its more than just a flyover state. Can’t wait to come back and explore it more during a different time of year!

Beautiful and quiet , stargazing is spectacular! The camp grounds are great, big spaces with fire pit , table and BBQ grill, 50 amp, water with dump station as you leave park. Great trails for hiking and horse back. Observatory is great for kids and adults !! Rock hunting , fishing and bird watching .....summer is warm !! Hot in fact be prepared for weather extremes! Can be very wendy !! Enjoyed this park !!

Three Island Crossing State Park

613 acres with campsites, trails, wildlife & a center with Oregon Trail educational programs/tours.

Slide 1 of 3

Such a fun place to camp. We enjoyed taking our camper out on its maiden voyage. This was the perfect spot. It had water and electricity. There were so many trailers to wander on and the views were beautiful. Not far from home but it felt like we were miles away. There were so many kids running around and playing. We will for sure be back!

Campground open December 1st! Driving through and needed a place to stay the night and was happy one loop of campground was open and almost empty. Self register. $42 seemed a bit pricey for nonresident in off season since all amenities including water were turned off. Did get electric hook-up. Parking pad was level gravel. Could fit larger RV in some spots Could hear train all night. Left early so no time to enjoy park. Convenient access off highway only a few miles.

Pretty nice state Park. Very busy/full. Hard to get in here unless you book way ahead. No full hook ups, central RV dump. Some sites have water & electric. Many trains w/ loud horns all thru nite & day.

Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, Visitor's Center

National park

Nature & Parks

National park with a visitor center displaying samples of ancient fossils excavated from the area.

Slide 1 of 3

Nice little National Monument Visitor's Center. Feature film was informative, and has a very kid-friendly corner with activities, and interactive displays.

Basically...it's just wide open planes not worth the trip. We even had a hard time finding it. I was picturing a big National Park only to find almost nothing but a little sign. I'm sure there a a few hiking trails but don't expect any information booth, restrooms or really anything.

We’re big fans of the National Park system. We’ve learned something at even the smallest parks and this one was no exception. That said, there really isn’t that much there. The staff is very informative though. They have a cast of a mastodon head, a reproduction of a Hagerman horse skeleton, and numerous authentic fossils. The history of the actual site and Hagerman horse are interesting. You can see the site from an overlook, however, there is really nothing to see as there hasn’t been a dig in decades. The route is on the Oregon and Emigrate Trails which are interesting for the history but not so much what you see. If you’re in the area, it’s worth going.

Miracle Hot Springs

Hot spring hotel

Nature & Parks

Campsite with RV sites, canvas domes & group tent areas at geothermal spring pools.

Slide 1 of 3

One of the best hot springs we’ve been to! We took some advice and booked a private room/pool here and it was incredible. Not only do you have your own space to change but you have your own person hot spring! The best touch is that you can adjust the temperature by turning the knobs to release hot or cold water. One side of the pool is deep and one side is shallow because of the stairs so you can choose how you want to relax. An hour was plenty of time for 2 of us but I would consider booking the pool for longer if I came with a group. Once our hour was up, we went to check out the general admission pools and they were pretty packed with families so getting a room was the best decision we made for the day! Staff was friendly and it felt clean. We can’t wait to come back! It’s also not hard to get to, especially when it’s snowing so we loved the drive! And there’s no hiking! Just pull into the parking lot!

Absolutely awesome. No more RV campgrounds available. The hot springs is really amazing with four different temperatures pools. Reasonable price and highly recommended for anyone just wanted to relax. They also have private pool and they're usually pretty full. If you prefer to use the private pool, highly recommended to call advanced to reserve one. Otherwise public pools is fabulous.

Enjoyed a vip private pool, very nice! Best cash I have spent in a long while! We were there around 5-6pm and it was nice and quiet one or two couples swimming in the main pool. One thing I noticed by 6 private rooms were completely booked. So if you plan on getting a private room book ahead of time. 1hr goes too quick 👍👍

Snake River Canyon Rim Trail

Park

Nature & Parks

Hiking Trails

10-mi. system of hiking & cycling trails with dramatic vistas over the Snake River Canyon.

Slide 1 of 4

Canyon Rim Trail – This was our first stop in Twins Falls and it gave us a lot of perspective on the size and scale of the canyon. The easiest place to pick it up is from the Visitor Center on the south side of Perrine Bridge. This paved path runs along the rim of the Snake River Canyon and offers some spectacular views of the bridge and river below. We loved the view here so much, we had to come back early the next morning to catch sunrise.

Really nice paved trail along the canyon. The views on the smaller waterfall aren't great, but ending at the visitor's center was cool and a nice rest stop before walking back. If you're in Twin Falls and have a couple of hours, on a nice day, you should totally take this walk.

Beautiful scenery. You can go all the way to the falls from the visitor center via the trail. We love it.

A nice panoramic view, limited parking with a portable poti and bench. The map/sign needs repair. Easy access to the trail for walking and rolling along the rim.

Perrine Memorial Bridge

Truss-arch bridge spanning the Snake River, known for its minimalist construction & height.

Slide 1 of 3

This place is unreal. We got there and there were BASE jumpers jumping off the bridge. It was fantastic and a most see. Great parking and friendly people around. If you drive by Twin Falls, please stop by and check it out. Your won’t be disappointed.

It's a super fun and beautiful experience! Base jumping experience was super exciting. Thank you, Colby, for sharing your jump with us!

Beautiful scenery it's a must for anyone driving through this place has some history with evel knievel trying to jump across the snake river back in 1974 but failed also people base jump off the bridge just taking a walk and enjoying the natural wonders its relaxing and fun.

Shoshone Falls Park

Park

Nature & Parks

Waterfalls

Green space with a boat launch & scenic overlook also has trails, picnic areas & a concession stand.

Slide 1 of 4

Shoshone Falls (Idaho’s most iconic waterfall) will be at full force. Late Summer – Snow pack will have melted off, allowing you to explore nearly all backcountry trails – however, the potential for wildfire is also greater. Rivers will be lower, warmer, and mellower, good for beginners to try out whitewater rafting. In general, waterfalls will be lower throughout the state and Shoshone Falls will be turned off completely due to seasonal damming.

Shoshone falls park is absolutely worth the drive, worth the stop!! It is a gorgeous view, a beautiful grounds for having a picnic lunch, has restrooms to use, dog friendly, has a gift shop, and you can order lunch, snacks & drinks! The gal working the gift shop was SO nice! She was friendly, efficient, and down to earth. The view of the falls is spectacular, and we even made some new friends! Overall, I highly recommend stopping her for a while to visit and take in the beautiful views!

Shoshone Falls was quite the surprise for me! We were in town visiting some friends, so we decided to go check out the falls along the way. This is one of the only places I have ever seen a double rainbow in all my years of being in nature so that was a very nice surprise to see! The falls can get a little busy, but they weren't bad moving around and taking pictures. There are a number of birds that fly down near the falls as well so you can get some great shots with the double rainbow going over the falls. This is a must see if you are in the area!

Excellent Views!! Fun for everyone!! Incredible History!! The water wasn't flowing heavy yet! But it was real neat to see it in this state!! (Before they release the water!) Always Love to frequent this Magical place!! New views every time you go!!

Shoshone Ice Caves

Caverns & Caves

Landmark spot boasts tours in underground lava caves with ice formations, plus a museum & gift shop.

Slide 1 of 3

Our tour guide, Abby, was so sweet and did such a great job teaching us new facts about the Shoshone Ice Cave, the people who lived there and the different layers of lava at the cave entrance! The gift shop and museum is really nice too! Definitely worth the trip especially for only $12! The walk is as good as going down into a cave can be so people with bad knees might have some trouble and need to consider that before making the trip. Definitely bring a light jacket! 10/10 guys! Thank you!

Unique experience . This is privately owned but still worth the trip. there is a little bit of a hike over lava rock to the opening, Inside temperature when I visited was about 24 degrees (F). Our guide was named Mya. She did a great job and was well informed. Part way through the tour, she sang a song for us to illustrate the acoustics in the cave, She did a great job!

It's a pretty cool place. Our guide was a very talented teenager. She made the tour fun and knowledgeable

Expansive state park with camping, rock climbing & hiking, amid impressive granite rock formations.

Great granite blocks! Hikers will enjoy scrambling among them, and climbers recognize this place as among the highest concentrations of quality moderate trad routes in the country. Great place to acclimitize before heading to higher peaks. Hikers - please know your limits, the climbers you may see free soloing or roped climbing have trained in ways you haven't.

This place has a ton of hiking 🥾 trails and as most of you know, it has all levels of rock climbing. 🧗‍♂️ I, myself, do not do any climbing other than into my bed every night. 🛌😁 The rock formations are pretty cool. 😎 There’s plenty of places to camp but I’m not a camper either. 🤷‍♀️So we stayed in a hotel nearby. I just like to take pictures 📸of these beautiful sites and the adventurer’s. So, here’s some of my photos.

Wow! My dogs and I enjoyed walking around and would love to take longer trails once the snow melts!

Museum of Clean

Modern museum showcasing exhibits on historic cleaning techniques & tools, with brooms, tubs & more.

Slide 1 of 3

The Museum of Clean is a really fun experience. The displays are clever and informative, with just enough “potty humor” to please even the most conservative of crowds. There are lots of interactive displays that leave you wondering just how anyone managed to have a clean house before a fusion vacuum and modern plumbing. The museum imparts the idea of being clean, not just how to clean. Definitely a worthwhile visit if you have a free afternoon.

Most highly recommend this delightful, unique museum! You will not regret it! They also have things for children. I loved all the history and creativity found there. Thanks Don for your vision to a truly enjoyable place. I took over 100 pictures, but here are some. I loved the sculptures, art gallery, clean orchestra, the vacuum floor, etc!

May not have been something I was terribly interested in, but once I stepped inside this huge museum, the passion of the owner, Don Aslett was quite apparent. He has dedicated his life to building a world wide cleaning Co, writing books, and collecting thousands of rare cleaning items such as vacuums, brooms, mops, etc. and placing them on display. The staff was very friendly and as a Harvest Host guest, we are thankful for the night's stay.

Slide 1 of 3

Excellent experience! Everything you want to know about Idaho potatoes is in this museum! Definitely worth the stop! #idahopotaotes

Very interesting. Well maintained and super clean. Who knew there was so much to learn about the humble potato. Even the building itself is interesting Great value!

We had an excellent visit except when leaving the girl closing the museum was rude. As we were leaving the museum (through the gift shop). She told us ‘I’m locking up now’. It was uncomfortable - I tried to explain that we weren’t trying to enter the museum and that we were leaving after viewing. There’s also a cafe here. I ordered some yummy fries and my partner ordered chili fries. If it weren’t for the rude service when we were exiting I would definitely recommend visiting this place if you have an hour so spare. Also if you’re from out of state you get a free instant potato packet. If you have AAA or military ID they offer a small discount on admission.

Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park

A broad range of international animals on display, plus a petting zoo & bird aviary, spring to fall.

Slide 1 of 3

You can never go wrong with a guick trip to this zoo. My grandson loves it here and enjoys seeing all his "friends". We come here enough that he knows where all his favorites are. The animals are all well cared for and the enclosures are very natural looking. This year there are at least 3 new babies!

This Zoo is extremely affordable and worth the money. You get to see lots of wildlife, even when some animals aren't in the outside enclosures. This was a good use of my afternoon/a few hours, and I'll likely come again

This place was a lot bigger than I expected and it was really well kept. Normally zoo's stink but I didn't smell anything until I hit the zebras! Very impressed with their collection of animals, cleanliness and informative signs! First time my daughter got to see any animals and we both had a blast! From seeing our favorite animals (flamingos and donkeys), learning about new animals and feeding goats- it was the perfect way to spend family time! Thank you so much guys!

So nice!!! Glad we stopped by on this beautiful spot on their city while on our way to Yellowstone..it was gloomy tho and the pic taken late Sept 2021, lots of restaurant and hotel around nice bike path too..

Enjoyed the river walk immensely. Saw both at night and in the morning. Trails are well maintained with plenty of seating and unique benches.

The green belt is wonderful. It’s very peaceful. I only wish it were longer and that people would do a better job cleaning up after their dogs.

Museum of Idaho

Established in 2003, this museum features exhibits on science & regional history, plus archives.

Slide 1 of 3

Went for the last day of the BodyWorlds: Animal Inside Out exhibit. It was way cool. After going through that exhibit, my boyfriend and I walked through the rest of the museum. I enjoyed it. I would definitely go back for future exhibits.

What a true treat stopping at this museum was. I learned so much about the state of Idaho, from the native American Indian tribes to the farming history to the types of gems that can be found in the state, etc. The stuffed animals on display were fascinating, as were the storefront displays with information about certain items. I could tell that whoever contributed to putting the displays together cared a great deal about what he/she was doing. The native American Indian artifacts were incredible! I enjoyed seeing so much handcrafted materials as well as the artifacts of people who lived on the homesteads in the state in the past. Learning about some of the plants that grow in the area peaked my interest, and there was a great description of the sagebrush that I came across. Everything was intriguing at the Museum of Idaho. It was a trip well worth it, in my opinion and I would go back again. There's quite a bit to see.

Well what is to say about this museum, it does change so thus review can be a hard one! Currently on 10-18-2021 the exhibit is "Animals Inside out" and I must say it was super cool! I've never had a bad experience or tour of what's been in the museum ever so, I suggest the museum to anyone visiting, passing through, looking to kill time, or even just the joy of museums! They have a great section (large) about Idaho falls, filled with so much information, and the staff is always friendly.

Yellowstone Bear World

Wildlife park

Zoos & Aquariums

Drive-thru wildlife tours, a petting zoo with public feeding times & kids’ rides open April-October.

Slide 1 of 4

Even though Bear World is in Rexburg, Idaho, it made the list because many people drive by it on their way to West Yellowstone. Bear World gives you a chance to see bears in a way different than anywhere else. You drive through and see free roaming bison, wolves, black bears, grizzlies, and elk.

It's a neat place, most of the bears here are former actor/performance animals, or descendants of said bears, so they cannot be in the wild. Place offers a few different ways to see them as well. (Drive thru the park in your own vehicle, or use their truck to toss them food, as well as a small petting zoo for the kids.)

Wow! We went during Cubpalooza last week. The kids loved it and want to go back again. They have amusement rides that are included with admission. The bears were very active and the cubs were 100% adorable.

At first glance, the price seems really steep being $24 an adult but once you realize just how many animals are actually offered either to see (bison, elk, bears, moose etc.) or to pet at the petting zoo (deer, goats, pigs etc.) I soon understood why! This place was so cool driving in with all of the big bears, elk and bison! Not to mention the adorable petting zoo and amusement park which is also built into the admission price! Also, their fudge in the giftshop? Delicious!! Absolutely worth a visit at least once! My family had a wonderful trip and we will be back! Thanks guys! Very impressed.

Horseback Riding Tours

Slide 1 of 3

Or guide, Gelsey, was amazing riding back and forth to check on everyone in our group. The horses had their own special personalities, but were all very gentle. Great experience for our family!

Do the 2 hour ride. My family of 5 and an aunt/uncle did the 3 hour ride in June 2021. The website made it seem like there would be spectacular sites and views. It was really just a walk through the woods. 2 hours of looking at evergreens would have been enough. The entire ride looked identical to the photos attached to this review. They did not permit us to dismount at all until the end of the ride. Our one guide was in the front and completely oblivious when our horses were fighting each other or trying to knock off kids by walking under low branches. I was surprised that each group didn’t have a guide in front and back. My kids loved the experience and the horses, but they would have been fine with 2 hours. The guide was nice and a good rider. We did not have time to stay and play in the lake. That did look fun.

Terrific, family friendly and fun experience with their horses. The staff was respectful, helpful, kind and very informative. They did a great job of matching our experience level with their horses. The trails was beautiful, serene and lovely. We did not run into a lot of wildlife, but did see a fox. A great way to spend an early afternoon!

Upper Mesa Falls

Slide 1 of 4

After you head out of Big Sky, your next stop would be West Yellowstone. Take note that if you need gas, get it in Big Sky. There is nothing between Big Sky and West Yellowstone.

We live so close (Rexburg) that I can't believe we haven't been up here before. Although seeing it in fall colors made for a heck of a first impression. I've been posting photos on social media from around Idaho this week, yet these photos of Mesa Falls seem to generate the biggest, most positive response. Maybe my out-of-state friends (like me, until this visit) didn't know such an impressive falls was here. The trail is easy, and I like both the accessible option and the stairs option. Whoever designed the observation points did a great job. and everything is maintained perfectly. We will definitely be bringing out of state visitors up here, now that we know how beautiful this place is. $5 per car, or our interagency annual pass got us in for free.

Cool Falls on the way to Yellostone National Park, the trails are really well maintained too along with visitor center …

Great place to see an amazing water fall. Easy trail on a wood walking path.

Great stop on your way into West Yellowstone. Fascinating lake created by earthquake in 1959.

If you are anywhere close, passing by or while visiting West Yellowstone, make it a point to stop here. Your visit, including the short video will be around an hour or so. The history, the forces of Mother Nature, the earth, death, destruction, and the heroism of humanity are experienced here. The place is hallowed ground. Visit and you will understand.

This is an amazing place with a scary and tragic story amazing the power and destruction mother Earth can leave you can visit the visiting center or use Google and create your tour and hike the lake shore the old trees are eerie as well as the small town on the bottom.

We recently returned from a five day Yellowstone pack trip. I would say it was a trip of a lifetime but I am definitely going back!! The friendliest, most patient, and entertaining staff. We were truly blessed to see parts of the Yellowstone not seen by many. Beautiful back country, waterfalls, landscapes and night skies. The horses were amazing, patient, gentle and well suited for different levels. The food was superb. Kevin, Debbie, Greg and Lacey were the best. They did everything to make sure everyone had a great time. I would say don't miss this trip but please don't take my spot!!!

What a blast! If you are looking to take a day trip adventure on horseback in the beautiful mountains, do not look any further. This was such a memorable experience with my family. Deb and Kevin were professional, knowledgeable, kind, and patient with these city slickers. The horses were sure footed and gentle as we traversed through lush trails and opening up to an amazing vista. I would highly recommend and definitely plan to book again when we come back. Thank you Deb and Kevin! The best!

The 5-day pack trip to Tetons was fantastic!  Deb and Kevin are warm and friendly.  They are patient with the young and the old (our group was aged 13 to 70) , the experienced and the complete novice.  The mountains are breathtakingly beautiful. The horses were sure footed and forgiving.  Boone the wonder dog was friendly and loving and everyone wanted to take the Australian shepherd home.  I would use Dry Ridge outfitters again and again.  Saddle bags nicely hold trail gear, like water bottles, binoculars, or a trail snack.  There is much to do when getting ready in the morning or after a ride, but people can do as little or much as they are comfortable with.  Everyone in our group gladly helped groom and saddle with particular care for their own horse for the week.  Bring a pair of work gloves getting the horses ready, they are not needed for riding.  The cooking was great, and it was nice not having to worry about helping with that task, Greg was a terrific camp cook for our trip -- master of the dutch oven.  Our trip was in mid August and the fields were covered in blooming wildflowers and virtually no bugs!

Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center

Non-profit organization

Nature & Parks

Visitors get close-up views of grizzly bears, gray wolves & birds of prey in this animal refuge.

Slide 1 of 12

This nonprofit organization offers an alternative for ‘pest’ grizzlies facing extermination and captive-born wolves that can't survive in the wild. Here they are used for education and product testing (check out the row of shame of non-bear-proof trash containers). The wolves are on continual display in their naturalized enclosures, while the bears are let out individually. The excellent twice-daily ‘Keeper Kids’ program allows kids to hide food in the enclosures and then watch the bears sniff it out.

If you are interested in knowing more about the wildlife around the area in a controlled environment, this is the ultimate place for you which not only offers a detailed history of the wildlife but also teaches some conversation tactics. In addition to this, the center also has a number of activities lined for small children to entertain them and inform them more about bear habitat under the protection of a naturalist and an animal keeper. Address: 201 S Canyon St, West Yellowstone, MT 59758

If you want to see some amazing animals up close in an incredible way while supporting a good cause, the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center is for you!. Featuring grizzlies, wolves, otters, birds of prey, and…… squirrels (a real highlight for kids). These animals either have an injury or some bad habits that make it unsafe for them to live in the wild so they find refuge here where they live in some pretty impressive habitats.

So far, all the spots introduced for animal watching in Yellowstone are open wild places dominated by basins. However, if you want to see other wildlife like grizzly bears or wolves in a safe and protected environment, this Discovery Center located in the West Yellowstone is the spot to hit. The animals living in the center are captive-born or those that can’t survive in the wild for various reasons.

This facility near the park's West Entrance is home to grizzly bears and gray wolves that are unable to survive in the wild, offering families a chance to see them up close. There's also a river otter exhibit, several reptiles and amphibians, and a raptor exhibit that's open from May through November. Children's programs, ranger talks, and wildlife movies take place throughout the day.

So far, all the spots introduced for animal watching in Yellowstone are open wild places resided by basins. The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is a wildlife park, home to at least 114 animals of 23 different species. It features 14 main attractions and many engaging activities for your enjoyment.

Awesome spot. We went in winter so it was a slightly different setup than summer but was amazing to see the bears and wolves so close! It's a short visit kind of place, if you really read every plaque and exhibit maybe 2.5 hours. If you go strictly for the animals 1-1.5 hrs if you take your time. Gift shop was priced competitivly with the surrounding gift shops, and the best part is the proceeds go to the center... Great experience, will definitely do it again.

This is an amazing sanctuary for bears that are impacted by human conflict. This center educates on how to prevent bear interaction with humans. One of the most enlightening demonstrations is "camping in bear country" where they set up a typical tent scenario and let the bears do what they do. The wolf packs are beautiful, they are adding new areas for the animals to enjoy. The entrance pass is good for entry for 2 days.

The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is a not-for-profit wildlife park and educational facility which opened in 1993 that is located in West Yellowstone, MT. It is open 365 days a year. They have rehabilitated animals and lots of bears and wolves that they rotate every few hours through various outdoor displays. They also have giant aquariums for local river and lake displays. Some include local fish; otters; etc.; dioramas; etc. The displays, dioramas, etc. are spread out among different buildings and outside areas and have excellent descriptions. A great organization to visit and support.

For over 50 years, the Playmill Theatre has been entertaining crowds. Each season they produce 3 family friendly shows. The Playmill Theatre is known for the humor and energy of the local performers and is a tradition for many who visit Yellowstone frequently.

Join us for a night of great theatre in our rustic home in beautiful West Yellowstone, Montana, gateway to Yellowstone National Park.?

We really enjoy the Playmill and highly recommend it if you are ever in West Yellowstone. The crew and cast are extremely friendly and interact with the audience which makes the experience fun. It is best if you reserve seats before hand as they go fast. They do not allow pictures once the show starts but you can take a few before that.

We just saw their production of Newsies and we were thoroughly impressed! The show and cast was amazing!

I was impressed, even amazed, at the way they utilized that tiny space. Their set pieces were multi functional and ingenious. The scene changes were expertly timed and choreographed. Everything worked like clock work. The service at intermission was speedy and friendly, and they brought everything to you so there was no need to leave your seat. Another amazing use of time and space. Parking is very limited, so come early in case you need to walk a few blocks. It was a very fun way to spend an evening.

Slide 1 of 4

If you’ve never shot a gun before or are looking for an opportunity to shoot some semi-automatics, rifles, and old school guns (like from the Civil War) this might be a good spot for you (after all- you are in the West). Although you can go through alot of ammunition in a short time, I bet you’ll never forget it. The employees make your safety the #1 priority.

I was really surprised at the level of professionalism Yellowstone Big Gun Fun upholds. They offer packages the are quite affordable and offer the experience to fire anything from handguns, shotguns to fully automatic machine guns. I had the opportunity to fire both a 1911 45 caliber and also a FNP90. The staff was very knowledgeable and thorough on instruction to properly handle, aim, shoot, posture and correct aiming mistakes. I was really quite impressed and will be returning next year. It is conveniently located 2-3 blocks away from the west entrance to Yellowstone. Right next door you can get Starbucks coffee and right across the street is an awesome pizza place.

Wife and I visiting west yellowstone for the day. Stopped in to big gun fun and had the best time. The guys working there were very courteous and professional. Safety always number one..we both had a great time and recommend stopping in for anyone. Will definitely stop in again the next time we are in town.

BGF is an absolute must stop if you're in West Yellowstone! Ian is awesome and very knowledgeable, friendly and safe.

Old Faithful Inn

Straightforward rooms & suites, plus a restaurant, a lounge & a famous fireplace.

Slide 1 of 29

Considered the largest log structure in the world, the Old Faithful Inn, a National Historic Landmark, was built between 1903 and 1904 out of local wood and stone. The 76ft-tall (23m) lobby, with a mammoth stone fireplace and a handmade copper and wood clock, is something to behold. The inn remains the most requested accommodation in the park, and rooms for the busy summer season book out well in advance, including the suites with sitting rooms and the basic rooms in the Old House that come with communal bathrooms and showers.

Don’t miss the Old Faithful Inn tour, SERIOUSLY. You might think, “I came to a national park to explore the great outdoors, not a building…” but just wait until you walk into the lobby of the Old Faithful Inn. The tour is free and provides so much history about not only the hotel but the park itself and its first visitors. Then once you’ve seen Old Faithful erupt, follow the boardwalk around to explore the Upper Geyser Basin which has the largest concentration of colorful hot pools in the world.

If you choose to stay within the boundaries of Yellowstone, you’ve got to be next-door neighbors with the most famous geyser in the world, right?. One for the warmer months (the snow lodge is just next door for the sub-zero crowd), this place is bathed in old-school Americana vibes, close to some of the most famous Yellowstone sites, including the Black Sands Basin, the Continental Divide, the Firehole River and West Thumb basin. Lace up those hiking boots.

Housed inside a log and stone building constructed in 1903, the Old Faithful Inn is the park's most popular accommodation option. The hotel is open between the beginning of May and the beginning of October, and it offers more than 300 rooms. Some rooms feature views of the geyser, and guests can choose between traditional hotel-style rooms, basic rooms with shared bathrooms, and suites with separate living areas.

People have mostly good things to say about the buffet laid out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and next door at the. you might find yourself drinking with friendly off-duty employees. Head to the second floor of the Inn and you’ll find a small bar tucked into a corner by the deck (with a view of Old Faithful), which is fantastic for when you want a drink that does not involve standing in line.

Each night from 6 pm-10 pm listen to a musician while enjoying the rustic, classic architecture of the lobby of the Old Faithful Inn. Musicians vary across the summer season and include Martha Colby, Max McGathey, Meghan Stagl, and Tara Cross, talented professionals all. Come and enjoy their enhancements to the Inn’s lobby, one of the greatest man-made spaces in the National Parks!

Constructed in 1903-1904, the Old Faithful Inn, one of the most famous lodging facilities in the park, is thought to be the biggest log structure in the world. Even if you aren’t staying at the Inn, you absolutely must visit to marvel in its glory. Built in 1903, Old Faithful Inn is the largest log structure in the entire world. Just a six-minute walk from its namesake geyser, historic Old Faithful Inn has been welcoming visitors since 1903. It’s a fabulous place to have a meal (make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment) or enjoy a huckleberry latte on the outdoor deck as we did. With 327 rooms, the Inn welcomes visitors from May to October annually.

This resort not only offers affordable accommodation but gives you value for your money. The property offers comfortable and spacious rooms, a restaurant, bar, and conference room, plus a pool and a spa. It's hard to imagine how any work could be accomplished with snow and ice blanketing the region, but this historic hotel was constructed…

Before the Pandemic. My family went on a Vacation on Yellowstone. And we took a tour guide to see Old Faithful at the Old Faithful Inn which is really good experience and I enjoy seeing Old Faithful geyser up. And I also enjoy the tour inside the Old Faithful Inn which is a good architectural of the Old Faithful Inn. And I also got a Cookie which is Gluten Free. So this is one of the best Nature Trip I see. Even though this is a dark difficult time. But when I see the Picture of Old Faithful it will give me hope for a better tomorrow.

The views and everything is absolutely beautiful, the service was great, now for the room that we had was a different story, it was extremely small, the bed was uncomfortable , the smell of dust in the room was very strong it could have been since it was the opening weekend of the hotel but unknown. I would highly recommend the snow lodge for a comfort room which is located right behind this one.

DO NOT GO HERE. There was NO communication about what the restaurant was. No one told us that it was a buffet until we sat down. The wait staff were NOT helpful. Our waiter literally just came up to the table and said "I am only here to get you drinks". When we asked for a menu, he said "The buffet is over there, help yourself. But you get a HOT and a COLD beverage included." I'm not sure HOW that was a selling point as all we wanted was water. The food was AWFUL. We could only identify three items there and none of it looked all that edible. We paid $20.00 a plate and only ate half. This was the only terrible experience we had in Yellowstone.

Slide 1 of 5

Stop first at the Old Faithful Visitor Center to learn about the area's geological history, and find out when the famous geyser is predicted to erupt next (they can usually predict it within about 10 minutes). There will be a lot of people waiting to see the geyser, but the viewing area outside is huge, so it's worth sticking around for.

Geyser eruption predictions are calculated during visitor center hours. Interactive kids’ exhibits, bookstore, bathrooms. Hours and Seasons: Open daily throughout the year, with two month-long closed periods in the fall (mid-November through mid-December) and spring (mid-March through mid-April).

Definitely stop here and talk to the rangers to get the most up-to-date information regarding the park. Stop and watch the movie. They have a great interactive area to visit. With the huge windows, you can see Old Faithful from inside the visitor center. There is also a small gift shop inside.

This visitor’s center is pretty cool. It’s situated right near Old Faithful. There is a small “museum” area and they also show films about the park and the geyser. There were several park rangers there for any questions. Everything in this area is within walking distance. From West Yellowstone it’s about 30 minutes or so.

I was there during the winter. They have the geyser eruption predictions and I didn’t find the staff very helpful with information. I wish the ranger had information about the colorful geysers in the upper geysers basin. They have restrooms and the store was also open. The store had many interesting books about Yellowstone and Yellowstone souvenirs

Hot Springs & Geysers

Slide 1 of 44

If you’re looking for a true spectrum of visible hot spring majesty, search no further than the Grand Prismatic Hot Spring, the gem of Yellowstone’s own Midway Geyser Basin. You wouldn’t want to find yourself bathing in this hot spring; temperatures reach an average of 199° Fahrenheit (93° Celsius) in Yellowstone geysers, rending viewing from a comfortable distance easily the best way to enjoy these sights. Welcome to the most-photographed feature of Yellowstone National Park: the Grand Prismatic Hot Spring!

After you’re done in the Old Faithful Area, hop back in the car and drive 5 miles up the road to the Midway Geyser Basin – home to the Park’s most color geyser – Grand Prismatic Spring. There are two ways to explore Grand Prismatic. The first is a short hike on the boardwalk that puts you right at the base of the springs. The other is to park at the Fairy Falls parking lot and take the 1.2 mile round trip trail to the Grand Prismatic overlook where you’ll get a birds-eye view.

The largest hot spring in the United States and in my opinion the most beautiful in the world. Walk the boardwalks of this otherworldly hot spring and peer into its depths as you read interpretive signs telling you all about how this natural wonder was formed and just what is going on beneath your feet. Some people get it into their heads that they should fly their drones above this incredible geothermal feature to get a better perspective – this is illegal!

Asthe third-largest hot spring in the world and the most photographed thermal feature in Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic Spring is a must-visit for its gorgeous rainbow color that irradiates outward from blue to emerald green and yellow. The multicolored layers get their hues from different species of heat-loving bacteria living in the progressively cooler water around the spring. Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone National Park.

The next hot spring is surely one you have seen before in photographs, but there’s nothing quite like standing in front of the real thing with its beautiful rainbow of colors. There’s no way you can skip putting this on your Yellowstone National Park itinerary — it’s probably why you came in the first place!. It’s located in the Midway Geyser Basin, which also includes the Excelsior Geyser, the Turquoise Pool, and the Opal Pool.

As if all of the above-mentioned fascinations were not enough so nature decided to bestow the park with another enchanting sight, which is the Grand Prismatic Spring. This hot spring displays rainbow colors starting from deep blue in the center to hues of yellow and red along the edges. It is the largest hot spring in the United States, located in the Midway Geyser Basin, which promises to leave you artistically inspired.

Another absolute must-see at Yellowstone, this is the largest hot spring in the US. But it’s the rainbow colours that really draw people here, a natural phenomenon caused by pigmented bacteria that thrive on the minerals in the water. The spectacle looks at its very best from above, so we recommend driving south to the Fairy Falls trail and walking for an hour to the Grand Prismatic Viewing Platform.

If you’ve ever looked through images of Yellowstone National Park, you’ve seen photos of the unbelievable Grand Prismatic Spring. This rainbow pool, located in the Midway Geyser Basin, is one of the largest and most impressive hot springs in the park. With stunning blue, green, red, orange, and yellow hues, photographers from all over the globe travel to Yellowstone to photograph this beauty.

One of the most photographed spots in the park, Grand Prismatic Spring in the Midway Geyser Basin is worth the hype…but it is also really crowded so be prepared (and be sure to check out my Yellowstone tips.). The crowds can really detract from the experience, as there is a narrow boardwalk around the spring. Therefore it is best to go early or late in the day when the crowds are lighter.

At 370ft wide and 121ft deep, Grand Prismatic Spring is the park’s largest and deepest hot spring. It’s also considered by many to be the most beautiful thermal feature in the park. Boardwalks lead around the multicolored mist of the gorgeous pool and its spectacularly colored rainbow rings of algae. From above, the spring looks like a giant blue eye weeping exquisite multicolored tears.

Grand Prismatic Spring is one of the most stunning natural features in the United States. The spring is Grand Prismatic’s claim to fame – it is the biggest warm spring in the United States and the third-largest in the world. The colors of Grand Prismatic Spring are unlike any other – orange, yellow, and blue swirl together in beautiful contrast to the green trees that surround the area.

The last day we checked out and hit up Midway Geyser Basin where the Grand Prismatic Spring is. I wanted to hit up this short “unofficial” hike where you can get a birds-eye view of the Spring — but the park had closed it :(. Apparently too many people were using this “unofficial” path and causing erosion issues. So the park closed it to make it a real trail with boardwalks and stuff.

If there is one place that you really have to see in Yellowstone, it is the colorful Grand Prismatic Spring, the star of the Midway Geyser Basin. It is not only the largest hot spring in the United States (and the third largest in the world), but also one of the most unique natural wonders on the planet. It is also the best recognized and most photographed landmark of Yellowstone.

Known for its vibrant rainbow of colours as well as its gigantic size, Grand Prismatic Spring is the third largest hot spring in the world and the biggest in the US. The deep blue pool fades to a pale blue nearer to the edges, and then greens, yellows and oranges follow around its rim. The boardwalk that surrounds this impressive pool offers plenty of photo opportunities.

This is the largest hot spring in the United States and possibly the busiest spot in Yellowstone. We didn't have long to explore and discovered that you don't actually get much of a view of this huge, multi-coloured spring from the boardwalk.

If you have seen a postcard from Yellowstone, odds are it has the Grand Prismatic on it. The Grand Prismatic is best viewed from above but walking through the boardwalks is about as impressive. The blue and orange coloring of the thermal feature is mesmerizing and makes for some great pictures to remember your Yellowstone vacation.

Just up the road from Norris Geyser Basin in the Midway Geyser Basin is the aptly named Grand Prismatic Spring, the largest hot spring in the United States and third largest in the world. Like other hot springs, the center of this one is a vivid blue. What’s more unusual are the orange, green, and yellow pigments around the edges.

Just a few miles from Old Faithful, in the Midway Geyser Basin, Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest and one of the most photographed hot springs in the park due to its magnificent rainbow colors. Grand Prismatic Spring is a massive multicolored spring and the 3rd largest hot spring in the world. It is 121 feet deep and 370 feet in diameter, which is bigger than a football field. Where: Midway Geyser Basin

The largest hot spring in the entire USA, the Grand Prismatic is a stunning sight. The vivid rainbow rings, which lend the spring its name, are caused by varieties of microbes in the mineral-rich cyan waters.

The hot spring most worth our time was The Grand Prismatic Spring- the colors were unreal!. **Be careful when visiting hot springs and geysers as the ground is Thermal and can give out at any moment**

It is unbelievable the colors that Mother Earth can produce. It seriously looks like someone threw a bunch of buckets of paint out. Then the heat from the steam is so overpowering.

Grand Prismatic Spring is the third largest hot spring on the planet. It is well-known for its bright and vivid colors, namely blue, green, yellow, orange, and red.

You can reach Yellowstone's largest hot spring, 370 feet in diameter, by following the boardwalk. The spring, in the Midway Geyser Basin,…

This rainbow hot spring - colored by distinctive algae - is one of the most beautiful sights in the park.

This is by far the main spot I wanted to see at Yellowstone. A gigantic colorful pool! However - due to the time of year (early spring), it was covered thickly in steam and you could not really enjoy it at all. I would love to come back in summer. I would also love to get a higher view.

I’m sure it is gorgeous in summer, but if you are going in winter, you may not be able to even see it due to steam coming off of it. The boardwalk out to it is nice and easy to walk.

Wonderful place. Take the small hike to see it from the top.

Lewis Falls

Located on the Lewis River in Yellowstone National Park, this cascade waterfall drops 30 feet.

Slide 1 of 8

Lewis Falls is a 30 foot waterfall located along the South Entrance Road just south of Lewis Lake. There is a small parking area and a sign alerting you to the falls (Parking might be difficult to find during peak time and season). It is not a very high waterfall, but the easy roadside access makes it a very popular destination.

If you want to get to the falls like I did, you’ll need to walk down the bank and be careful not to slip!. Located on the Lewis River, these waterfalls drop 30 feet and you can see them from the road. They are south of Lewis Lake and are around halfway between Grant Village and the park entrance.

Lewis Falls is a nice waterfall at the South end of Yellowstone National Park between the parks south entrance and Grant Village. It can easily be seen while driving southbound heading towards Grand Teton National Park. You can also get out and hike just over the hill for an unobstructed view.

If you are on your way to Grand Teton National Park or coming from there, you need to stop by Lewis Falls. This is just a quick overlook of a pretty waterfall. The parking is on the side of the road, so when you are coming close to the waterfall, watch for a parking spot.

This short, but sweet, hike was our first to stumble upon when we entered the park from the south entrance. Lewis Falls is a 30-foot waterfall that’s visible from the road. I noticed that most who stopped snapped pictures from the small parking area and moved on.

Such beautiful stop! Definitely worth to visit and take a break here!

your grand mother can see this from the road, stop for this attraction. don't keep speeding down the road to get the Old Faithful, it's not worth it to pass up everything else that YNP has to offer. frankly we were in the park for 4 days and never made it to old faithful basin and we were just as happy with all the hidden gems the park had to offer. we got our advice from "we're in the rockies" youtube channel and it was really helpful

The falls is about 30ft tall but with a good amount of water falling. You might miss the falls driving Northeast, since the falls is around the bend. A trail takes you all the way up to the falls for a closer view. The falls is pretty and across from here on the other side, you may find bison on the meadow.

Hot Springs & Geysers

Geothermal area, the hottest in Yellowstone National Park, with a museum, trails & geysers.

Slide 1 of 37

On the way to Mammoth a quick stop at the Park Ranger Museum provides some history on the National Park Service, and if you aren’t totally “geysered-out” stop at the Norris Geyser Basin for a short walk to stretch the legs and get your morning dose. If you think you’ve seen it all after driving by all the geyser turn-offs just wait…Mammoth Hot Springs is the definition of unique in Yellowstone and very different from everything you’ve seen so far. The water that pours over the hot springs has been in the ground for over 1,000 years and is responsible for all of the formations in the area as it cascades down. Take a peek into the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and check out the map room—it features a map of the United States made from several different kinds of wood.

While Old Faithful is no doubt Yellowstone’s most well-known geyser, approximately 60 miles north is the park’s oldest and hottest geothermal spot, dating back some 115,000 years and reaching temperatures in excess of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. It is here where visitors can also encounter the tallest geyser in Yellowstone National Park, the Steamboat Geyser, which launches piping hot water upwards of 300 feet into the air. Though the geysers rarely erupt, the basin itself presents visitors with an ethereal, alien-like terrain unlike anything else in the park.

Defined by the scorched appearance of geysers, hot springs, and a fragile crust, the Norris Geyser Basin is the most active geyser area of Yellowstone National Park. Providing the clearest pictures of Yellowstone's volcanic upbringings, Norris is an otherworldly environment filled with colorful thermophiles, hissing steam, and three miles of boardwalk to explore it all. One of the area's largest features, Steamboat Geyser is the world's tallest active geyser and has the capability to shoot water 300 feet into the air.

Norris Geyser Basin is an interesting spot for silhouettes of distant people in front of the rising steam clouds. The boardwalks through the basin stretch around the thermal pools and offer loads of opportunities to capture groups of tourists as they appear tiny in comparison to their grand surroundings. Timing might be tricky with the changing movements of the people and the steam clouds, so take your time here to find a good spot and wait for the perfect moment to arrange your shot.

Old Faithful may be the most famous geyser at Yellowstone, but don’t miss the easy two-mile trail at North Geyser Basin to sample a variety of impressive geothermal features, including the largest active geyser in the world. Any Yellowstone road trip needs to include it. North Geyser Basin consists of two loops: the shorter Porcelain Basin and the longer trail to the Back Basin.

Like Upper Geyser Basin, Norris Geyser Basin is another fairly large complex of geothermal features, also one of the most rapidly changing basins in Yellowstone. However, if you have seen the Upper and Midway Geyer Basins, you might not be as appreciative as when you visit it first. That said, if you are short on time, you can skip this one without missing much.

You will get your fill of geothermal features including small geysers (unless you get lucky with a major eruption at Steamboat Geyser), hot springs and mudpots. Just don’t plan on visiting more than one geyser basin in a day as it can get very repetitive. These are my favorite things to see in Yellowstone National Park if you just have a couple of days.

A (slightly) less crowded area, dotted with vents and fumaroles. Although it is less famous than the first 2, in my opinion it should absolutely not be missed, especially for these 3 attractions:. : A fanciful expanse of hot springs, geysers, and fumaroles that will give you the impression of being in front of an immense palette of colors.

Norris Geyser Basin comprises Porcelain Basin and Back Basin, accessed through two connecting loops. If the world's tallest geyser, Steamboat Geyser, isn't erupting (it probably isn't), continue around to the explosive remains of Porkchop Geyser and the appropriately named Vixen Geyser, whose random machine-gun eruptions will beguile you.

Norris is divided into two sections, the Porcelain Basin and the Back Basin. The Porcelain Basin area contains hundreds of geothermal features in a concentrated area, while the attractions in the forested Back Basin are spread out. One of the Back Basin’s most impressive features is the Steamboat Geyser, which is the tallest in the world.

Norris Geyser Basin is one of the most unique and interesting places in Yellowstone. As the name suggests, Norris Geyser Basin is home to a large number of geysers, making it one of the most active geyser basins in the park. Norris Geyser Basin is also one of the largest geyser basins in Yellowstone, covering an area of over 12 acres.

A research drill hole at the basin found a temperature of 459 degrees F (237 degrees C) at a depth of only 1,087 feet. Many geyser-gazing experts feel Norris Geyser Basin is the most exciting and unpredictable of the various basins in Yellowstone. Two very different basins make up Norris Geyser Basin: Porcelain Basin and Back Basin.

Walking around the amazing thermal areas at Norris Geyser Basin is one of the best things to do in Yellowstone. There are two distinctly separate areas at Norris – Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. Along Porcelain Basin all of your senses will be heightened with acidic smells, bubbling sounds and eye catching colors.

One of the hottest and most acidic thermal areas in Yellowstone National Park, Norris Geyser Basin is extremely volatile and dynamic. This is an active earthquake area, set at the intersection of three major faults. The result of these conditions is a geyser basin dotted with huge hot springs and massive geysers.

If you are interested in how exotic Yellowstone’s landscape can be, be sure to visit Norris Geyser Basin. It is the hottest, oldest, and changes the most of Yellowstone’s thermal areas. At just 1,087 feet (326 meters) below the surface a temperature of 459°F (237°C) was measured in a scientific drill hole.

Norris Geyser Basin is home to fascinating geysers and pools, including Steamboat Geyser – the tallest active geyser in the world. You’ll also find rare acidic geysers and colorful, thermophile-filled pools. The larger Norris Geyser Basin comprises two adjacent basins – Porcelain Basin and Back Basin.

Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most interesting geyser basin to explore during your Yellowstone vacation. There is a great 2-mile trail that guides you through the basin, but you can see a good part of it if you don’t want to hike that far. Start at the Norris Museum and go from there.

Norris Geyser Basin offers one of the most spectacular hikes in the park. The geothermal waters at Norris are the hottest and some of the most acidic in Yellowstone National Park. This creates an otherworldly landscape unlike anywhere else on earth and makes for an awe-inspiring easy hike.

Norris Geyser Basin is one of the major highlights that you should explore at Yellowstone National Park. It consists of two areas which are Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. In the Porcelain Basin you find geothermal features while in the Back Basin you find steamboat Geyser and forest.

Like Upper Geyser Basin, Norris Geyser Basin is another fairly large complex of geothermal features, also one of the most rapidly changing basins in Yellowstone. However, if you have seen the Upper and Midway Geyer Basins, you might not be as appreciative as when you visit them first.

Of all the best things you can do in Yellowstone, I wouldn’t put Norris Geyser Basin as the first priority. However, it’s still one of the best places of Yellowstone. So if you have enough time to also cover all the other Yellowstone attractions mentioned above, don’t miss it.

The Norris Geyser Basin is the oldest and hottest basin in all of Yellowstone. One of the most interesting attractions in this basin is the Steamboat Geyser—the tallest geyser in the entire world!. Water can be seen shooting out of this geyser up to 400 feet in the air.

Grand Loop Road at NorrisYellowstone National Park, WY 82190(307) 344-7381. See Ticket Price for Tour that Includes This Activity. The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and oldest geyser in the national park, with its thermal features dating to roughly 115,000 years.

The Norris Geyser Basin is the oldest, warmest and most dynamic area in Yellowstone. The highest temperature of 459°F (237 °C), was measured 1,087 feet (326 meters) below the surface. The temperature of the local hots springs is usually around the boiling point.

Yet another geyser basin in Yellowstone with so much to see. Here you’ll find Steamboat Geyser, the tallest known geyser in the world. There’s a myriad of hiking trails throughout the area that will take you to all kinds of interesting pools and geysers.

Located on the western side of the park, the Norris Geyser Basin is a treasure trove of interesting geothermal features. This geyser basin is home to the world’s tallest active geyser, Steamboat Geyser. It can spout water more than 300 feet into the air.

Similar to the Upper Geyser Basin, this is another fairly large collection of geothermal features. It’s also one of the most rapidly changing basins in the park. A visit here consists of seeing two basins: Back Basin and Porcelain Basin.

The Norris Geyser Basin contains the oldest, hottest and most active thermal features in Yellowstone. There are two main areas: Porcelain Basin and Back Basin. A network of paths and boardwalks snakes through them both.

34 km from city center 8 out of 9 places to visit in Yellowstone National Park. Located in the northwest edge of the caldera, it is the hottest geyser basin in Yellowstone, and home to the famous Steamboat Geyser.

The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and the most changeable thermal area in Yellowstone. Many hot springs and fumaroles can be found in the basin. Most of them have temperatures above the boiling point!

Day 7: Norris Geyser Basin and Old Faithful We had a nice big breakfast and got a later start. We hit up the Upper Mammoth Terraces. It’s not as spectacular as the Lower Terraces, but still worth seeing.

Effort required: minimal; a boardwalk trail leads you all around Norris Geyser Basin. It can be a long walk if you decide to do the full loops around the Basin. Parking can be difficult from 10am-5pm.

Norris Geyser Basin is a pretty large area to explore even more hot springs. I loved how vibrantly blue some of these geysers were. You can walk two loops in this area.

As the name implies, there are a lot of geysers here, like Steamboat Geyser and Echinus Geyser. See how many you can catch erupting!

This is a basin in Yellowstone National Park 🏞️ with a lot of geysers in it. This looked really active with a lot of geysers erupting. The loop walk around basin was great. The emerald spring was particularly beautiful. Definitely a must visit.

A wonderful place with many interesting thermal features. The steam boat geyser is very colorful in the winter and also it has many interesting steam pools. During the winter this location is accessible only by the snow coaches operated by many tour companies.

A basin full of geysers. There are 2 parts for the basin, Porcelain basin and Back basin. Both are equally beautiful. Porcelain basin is very big, but you can see complete basin and all the geyser from overlook point. The colors are very nice and unique. On the other, Back basin is not single basin as it has subparts. The steamboat is nice. Since Yellowstone has many geysers like this, you may seem disinterested if you have already seen old faithful and grand prismatic. But trust me it has its own beauty. A nice place to spend some time.

Yellowstone is in my top 3 parks. I had an amazing trip spending 4 days in the park. I plan on returning during winter so I can finish my trip and see all the snow. The wildlife was great, staff was friendly and it was a beautiful experience. Jeff Mullins Photography Adventures. Happy Hiking!

What can you add that hasn't been said. Other than go to see the big geysers like Old Faithful and Steamboat early in the morning or late afternoon. The hours between 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM are absolutely insane because of the number of tourists trying to see them on bus service

The beauty of Yellowstone will forever amaze me. Love this place so much!

Roosevelt Arch

Monumental stone arch, built in 1903, marking the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

Slide 1 of 9

If you are staying up by Mammoth Hot Springs, it is really worth a drive up to the North Entrance to see the historic Roosevelt Arch. This is the first major entrance to the park and you can just imagine the horse-drawn carriages that used to pass under the famously-inscribed words “For the benefit and enjoyment of the people.”. You will also often find pronghorn up by the North Entrance.

Once the north entrance to the park, Roosevelt Arch was built in 1903, costing about $250,000, and its purpose, however, is purely decorative. The arch was not originally intended to honor Roosevelt but was so named because the president happened to be vacationing in the park during the Arch’s construction, and was asked to speak at the dedication ceremony. Effort required: minimal; you can park and walk to the arch. The Roosevelt Arch is one of the few human-made attractions in Yellowstone National Park. Located at the north entrance, the arch was proposed by Hiram Martin Chittenden, who discerned that there needed to be a dramatic entrance to the park.

Back when Yellowstone National Park was first founded, the main entrance through the park was at the northern end near Gardiner, Montana. This entrance has been memorialized with the stone Roosevelt Arch just north of Mammoth. The arch is named after former President Theodore Roosevelt.

Find this huge stone arch at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The current park road bypasses the arch, but for a century, most park visitors passed through the arch to enter the park.

The Roosevelt Arche is a nice throwback to the days when Yellowstone was a young National park. It marks the original northern entrance to the park and is across the street from the small town of Gardiner. If you like history, or Architecture or both, be sure to stop briefly at this arch at the VERY northern top of the National park

This arch is at the north entrance of the park. It’s easy to locate the arch from the north entrance of the park. If you are lucky you can spot prong horn, bison and elk at this location. The Yellowstone no’s board is also near to the arch, so it can be a good photo opportunity.

If you are visiting Yellowstone from the north, take a few minutes to visit the Arch. It is worth walking up to it and viewing from all sides. Plus makes a fun photo.
