Season 31 of Dancing With the Stars kicked off last month, and we've already seen four couples eliminated so far. The competition for the coveted mirrorball trophy gets stiffer every week. Overall, this season of the reality competition series is undergoing some big changes, including a new co-host on the stage. But perhaps the biggest change is how to watch it. This fall, the long-running DWTS is moving from its prior home on ABC to stream exclusively on Disney+, making it the first live show on the streaming service. Show
What's more, DWTS is foregoing its usual ad breaks by streaming commercial free on the platform for Season 31. This is a huge change for the series since dancers and crew usually take advantage of the breaks for outfit changes, staging, and more, but they seemed to manage just fine on night one by adding some quick dances by the pros in between interviews. Season 31 ushered in 16 new contestants onto the ballroom floor along with their partners. While last season marked the first time a same-sex couple hit the stage with Jojo Siwa and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy, Season 31 makes history with Shangela and Gleb Savchenko as the first male duo on the show. Shangela is also the very first drag queen to be cast as a contestant. Here's everything we know so far about the current Season 31: This article contains spoilers for Season 31
CARRIE ANN INABA, LEN GOODMAN, DEREK HOUGH, BRUNO TONIOLI ABC/Eric McCandlessLatest NewsSince the show is now streaming on Disney+, the traditional Disney Night turned into Disney+ Night last week, expanding the dancers' options to include themes like Hamilton, The Simpsons, Guardians of the Galaxy, and songs from other shows that aren't technically Disney but are under the brand's streaming umbrella. Of course, there were also classic Disney choices like Hercules, and Mary Poppins, while Jesse James Decker and Alan Bersten pulled off a mean Sarah Sanderson and Billy Butcherson from Hocus Pocus. Night 4 saw some pretty high scores with multiple judges flashing the 8 card. Plus, the pros called Jordin Sparks' and Brandon Armstrong's jazz dance to "Remember Me" from Disney/Pixar's Coco the "best dance to date." Unfortunately, not everyone received glowing reviews, and weatherman Sam Champion and Cheryl Burke were the latest couple to be voted off the dance floor. Eliminations so far:
Dancing with the Stars Release DateSeason 31 had its opening night on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022. The show streams live coast-to-coast at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, so everyone in the U.S. and Canada will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite dancers, not just people in the Eastern and Central time zones. The judges are back too, including mean-mugging Head Judge Len Goodman, tough-but-fair Carrie Ann Inaba, over-the-top Bruno Tonioli, and talented Derek Hough. This season's pros include Cheryl Burke, Witney Carson, Artem Chigvintsev, Brandon Armstrong, Daniella Karagach, and Pasha Pashkov, to name a few. Lindsay Arnold and Sharna Burgess have confirmed that they will not be back this season. ABC announced the contestants vying for this year's mirrorball on Sept. 8. Dancing with the Stars TrailerDWTS released an official trailer on Aug. 22, showcasing past performances by past contestants like Simone Biles, Bindi Irwin, Jojo Siwa, and more. The DWTS and Disney+ official Twitter accounts posted this promo on August 11, inviting viewers to "make your heart dance in a whole new way" as the series moves to streaming: It's safe to assume Disney night will be all sorts of magical this year! Where to Watch Dancing with the StarsSeasons 31 of DWTS streams live on Disney+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and is available to replay afterwards. Prior seasons are currently unavailable to stream. Dancing With the Stars was picked up for two seasons by Disney+, and Season 31 is streaming ad-free this fall. Disney recently announced it will be introducing an ad-supported version of the streaming platform starting Dec. 8, but DWTS typically crowns a winner before then so it won't interfere with Season 31. Disney has yet to decide if Season 32 will continue streaming ad-free or go back to its commercial ways.
