Grand Theft Auto Online was released on October 1, 2013 and in the seven years since it has rolled out countless updates all without requiring any sort of extra payment from players.
That's partly due to GTA Online making a wealth of income from the in-game monetary system and the 'shark cards' sold to players in exchange for in-game cash.
Back in February 2020 during a Take-Two Interactive earnings call, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two highlighted that consumer spending grew 54% in the quarter for Grand Theft Auto Online.
This was off the back of the game's new GTA Online Diamond Casino & Resort and Diamond Casino Heist updates.
As a result, GTA Online is on target for a record year for the fiscal year ending March 2020.
It would seem then, that we won't see GTA Online charging players anytime soon whilst it continues to make bag fulls of cash by remaining free.
