If you’re looking for a dish soap that cleans as well as it smells, Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid offers good cleaning performance without irritating hands. Parent testers gave the dish soap good or very good ratings across the board for ease of use, quality and value, with most reporting that it works better than other dish soaps they’ve used. They were also happy with how long the bottle lasted, and one mom, who noted that the price is in line with the dish soap she normally buys, said she’d happily make a switch. The ultimate approval, of course, is whether parents would buy a product or recommend it to other parents, and all said they would. From its elegant white bottle to its aromatic, ultra-cleansing suds, Ivory Concentrated Dishwashing Liquid is a premium dish soap that gets the job done.

Ivory soap is a well-known product that has been widely used since its creation in 1878. The company makes a number of soap products, including liquid dish detergent, which is often mixed with water to make a homemade insecticidal soap spray. The spray, which is effective against a number of common garden pests, is a less-toxic alternative to chemical pesticides and insecticides, because it poses lower risk to people, animals and the environment.

Plain Old Soap

  1. Ivory soap, manufactured by Proctor & Gamble, claims to be 99.44 percent pure. According to the product's Material Safety Data Sheet, Ivory unscented liquid dishwashing soap contains biodegradable ingredients and no phosphates. Use plain Ivory soap to make insecticidal soap spray. Avoid perfumed dish soap because the fragrance may damage plants. Similarly, avoid Ivory's extra-strength products, which may contain harsh ingredients.

Its Targets

  1. "The Encyclopedia of Entomology," Vol. 4, reports that Ivory liquid dishwashing soap provided consistent results when tested on soft-bodied pests such as mites, thrips and aphids. According to the "Organic Handbook of Natural Insect and Disease Control," insecticidal soap may also kill mealybugs, whiteflies, earwigs, chiggers, scale, fleas and ticks. The solution works by penetrating the cell membranes, which causes the pest to quickly collapse and die.

The Formula

  1. To make insecticidal soap, combine 5 tablespoons of Ivory liquid dishwashing soap with 1 gallon of water. This makes a 2 percent solution, which is suitable for most plants. To keep your plants safe, test the solution on an inconspicuous leaf before spraying the entire plant, then check the leaf in 24 hours. If the plant looks wilted or shows other adverse effects, mix a lighter solution with half as much dishwashing liquid. Don't use a concentration higher than 2 percent because the soap may scorch the foliage.

The Method

  1. Insecticidal soap spray is most effective if you treat plants as soon as you notice pests, while the infestation is light. Spray plants with insecticidal soap spray in early morning or late afternoon or on an overcast day, because the solution may scorch leaves on hot, sunny days. Wet the foliage thoroughly, covering the tops and bottoms of the leaves, because the solution only works when it coats the pests. Because the spray kills on contact, it has little residual effect and must be reapplied every week until the pests are controlled.

patisofi... how can I say this politely? I can't. Usually I do my very best to be polite and helpful on this forum, God knows, but are you SERIOUS? For that matter, is your partner serious? If so, think about partners. Has he been a guest on "Queer Eye"? No, I haven't the foggiest idea whether Ivory soap, whatever it may be, is sold here. It probably is, but why would any balanced person care? Soap is soap, is soap. Read up on the ingredients. If this was posted on the impolite Europe forum someone would have branded you a troll by now, so think yourself lucky.

    TYLER
As the fat renders, the tallow floats to the surface. Like in Boy Scouts.

    JACK
I can imagine you as a Boy Scout.

    TYLER
Keep stirring. Once the tallow hardens, we skim off a layer of glycerin. If you were to add nitric acid, you got nitroglycerin. If you were to add sodium nitrate and a dash of sawdust, you got dynamite. Yeah, with enough soap we could blow just about anything.

    JACK (V.O.)
Tyler was full of useful information.

    TYLER
Now, ancient people found their clothes got cleaner if they washed them at a certain spot in the river. You know why?

    JACK
    Why?

    TYLER
Human sacrifices were once made on the hills above this river. Bodies burnt. Water speeded through the wood ashes to create lye.

    Tyler grabs a can.

    TYLER
This is lye -- the crucial ingredient. The lye combined with the melted fat of the bodies, till a thick white soapy discharge crept into the river. May I see your hand, please?

Tyler licks his lips until they're gleaming wet. He takes Jack's hands and KISSED the back of it.

    JACK
    What is this?

Tyler pours a bit of the flaked lye onto Jack's hand.

    TYLER
    This is chemical burn.

Pure Soap. Lye and Fat. No perfumes or moisturizers or alpha-hydroxy age defying bullshit. It's not marketing (well, it is, but not in the traditional sense of blowing smoke up someone's ass), it's actually pure soap.

(Damn! It took me a long time to find the real script with that scene in it! So, for the benefit of mankind, http://www.kingwoodcable.com/johno/fight%20club/fight_club_final_script.htm )
