This one didn't hold on to my attention as much as the first novel. It did get more interesting towards the ending, and I am curious if there will be more story to the next game than was in the anime.

Like in the first volume, I must say that this also contained the element of "too-much-unnecessary" fanservice. Although this time, I somehow got used to it to the point that I could see how it influences the whole story and how it sort of also defines the main characters' personality. Plus, it actually contributes to the comedic feature of the series.

What I really liked about this second volume is the fight with Jibril. Even though I've already known what was going to happen because of watching the anime adaptation, it still had the same thrill-seeking and daring appeal that seemed really fascinating. I exceedingly enjoyed reading that part especially. It was just well-thought-out and incredibly unique. I'm hoping to find more of this in the next volume(s). :D

3.5/5 I still really like the concept of the series. God decrees no violence and everything is settled with games. The writing is just a little too flighty and frenetic sometimes. Still hefty dose of perverse humor some of which lands but a lot does not.

The first chapter is a little slow but once we are introduced to Jibril the Flugel (Angel) in a word game that could destroy worlds it gets a lot more entertaining and fun.

After that it’s build up to taking territory back from a different Ixseed

After that it’s build up to taking territory back from a different Ixseed (race of creatures) the beast people. It starts getting interesting but then you’re dumped into a confusing cliffhanger that you’ll need the next volume to figure out.

The art remains gorgeous if you’re able to disregard the Lolis.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Finally finished the second volume and it definitely feels like an improvement to the first volume. The games played feels more intense and exciting than before. The way the main protagonists solved these games are also pretty interesting and seems logical. I think. The story got more intriguing as well with all the secrets and cliffhangers. I can definitely say that I'm hooked.

The characters are still not good though. By that I mean I still don't like them that much. They're still the same. Shiro feels like she could be replaced with a robot that has coded feelings inside, Sora is still creepy especially when he said to Ino that he missed his chance to play with her granddaughter's panties that Sora wants(maybe jokingly), and Steph is just trying to make sense of it all. The new characters aren't that good either. Jibril is just a stereotypical anime maid who will do things that his master(Sora & Shiro) says that will be inevitably lewd, Izuna is that anime character that keeps repeating a word in their end sentence which feels awkward in English and annoying, and there's nothing special about Ino so he fine I guess.

This light novel still reeks of smugness that I'm not comfortable with but the story got me hooked so I'll just keep my expectations low and chug along on this ride.

This volume started off with the siblings, Sora and Shiro, challenging Jibril, a Flugel, for access to Jibril's library. The game they played seemed quite boring, but well described. This volume was by far, better than the last plot wise. However, everything seemed more rushed, especially the ending. In this volume the characters seemed bland and static, there wasn't much character development for anyone other than Sora. Over all, this book was a nice read, the cliffhangers however, eventually do get very tiring.

I recommend this book to people who were interested in the first volume, I do think some however, may feel uncomfortable with the random jokes, and sudden change from fancy words to slang.

This series is just so fun.

The conquest continues. The siblings are on the hunt for knowledge and win a game against a Flügel Jibril, an ancient God-killing - sexy - being. Their attack on the mysterious werebeasts continues, though the ending lets the world stay in confusion.

The volume was great, but it loses a star for using shiratori as one of the games. It was just boring. At one point I was getting fed up of the sexual jokes, but the author manages to balance the book with some great serious moments. The last 60 pages setting up the next volume are some of the best in the series. Not as great as volume 1 but still a pretty solid entry in the series.

Pretty much the same as the show—both with the story and content (good and bad). There were plenty of times I rolled my eyes and skipped ahead a bit. I plan on reading the rest of the series, though, because I want to know how the story ends. (The anime only has one season and a prequel movie.)

What is there to say about No Game No Life, volume 2? Well, it was a lot better written than volume 1. A LOT BETTER. I enjoyed this story way more than the first volume. And now that your mind has been thoroughly robbed of all reason by my super awesome gif, let's get back to the review.

Like I said before, this volume has way better grammar. There are still a large number of run-on sentences, but with the much improved grammar, I can state with some certainty that this was likely a stylistic choice of the author. While the run-on sentences annoyed the crap out of me, I could put up with them since the rest of the story had some damn fine English.

Is No Game No Life Chinese?

Writing aside, I feel like the story is about the same as the last one. It maintains a healthy dose of humor, but it also deals with a few issues that would've cropped up for kings and queens during the renaissance period in Europe - except problems here are solved through games, not war. Sora and Shiro are in great form. They're probably the most mentally unstable pair that I've ever read in a light novel series, but that's kind of why I like them. I enjoy reading about batshit crazy characters.

Is No Game No Life Chinese?

Also, we've finally been introduced to my favorite character in the series. Jibril. Jibril is a Flugel, which is like an angel of death. She's also crazy - both crazy powerful and just crazy. Before the Ten Commandments forbade all forms of combat, she was a creature who spent her years slaughtering just about everything in sight, and, as part of a race that was created specifically to kill gods, her power is undeniable. I think what I like about her the most is her personality, which can change at the drop of a hat. No joke. One minute, she's all polite and kind. The next, she's talking about how she used to collect the heads of her enemies. Jibril is also a knowledge junky who gets her fix by collecting books from around the world.

Is No Game No Life Chinese?

I do feel pretty bad for Steph, though. As is the case with the first volume, Steph is basically comic relief. Shiro and Sora spend a good deal of time by beating her at games, and then making her do stuff that normal, sane people just wouldn't do. Reading this story, I would often wonder if I was a bad person for laughing at all of the crazy and mean crap that those two did to Steph. It's cruel, but undeniably funny.

Is No Game No Life Chinese?

Overall, this was a good installment to the series. I'll be reading volume 3 shortly, and I have some pretty high expectations for awesome this time.

The new characters are awesome. Jibril is always charismatic and funny and this earns her a place in the main cast and Izuna will probably a great main antagonist for the next volume.

The writting is still the same but the translation has a problem, regarding the Shiritori, a japanese word game. They tried to translate the words but the struture of the game, where every player has to say a word starting with the last character of the word, doesn't work like that and they should have used the japanese words and then translate them so we know what was going on...

Overall volume 2 is has good as volume 1 so if you liked it go ahead and read it!
