Use & Care

USING YOUR NEW STONE

Your new stone is heat-safe to 550°F (287°C), so you can use it in the oven, microwave, dishwasher, freezer, and under the broiler. Plus, it can go from the fridge to a preheated oven.

SEASONING YOUR NEW STONE

Your stone will develop a nonstick surface, or seasoning, with use. To build more quickly, bake higher-fat foods the first few times, or lightly brush with cooking oil.

COOKING WITH YOUR NEW STONE

Simply use the temperature and baking time in your recipe. If under 12 minutes, you may need to add 1-2 minutes. Here are more ways to enjoy your stone for years to come:

  • • Evenly distribute food across as much of the surface as possible, at least two-thirds full.
  • • You can preheat your stone up to 500°F (260°C) for up to 30 minutes. When preheating, your cook time may be shorter, so check 5-10 minutes sooner. No preheating is needed for frozen pizza.

CLEANING YOUR NEW STONE

  • • Use the included pan scraper to remove any debris from your stone.
  • • Let your stone cool completely before placing in the dishwasher.
  • • To build seasoning more quickly, handwash your cooled stone with warm water, no soap needed!

SAFETY AND USE INSTRUCTIONS

Read, understand, and follow all Safety and Use Instructions to avoid injury.

Save these instructions.

WARNING

  • • Hot stoneware can cause burns if handled improperly; always use heat-resistant oven mitts or pads when handling hot stoneware or placing on surfaces.
  • • Stoneware can break if bumped or dropped. If this occurs, use caution as broken pieces can be sharp and could cause injury. Do not use chipped or damaged stoneware.
  • • Stoneware should not touch the sides of the oven or the oven door when closed.

SAFEGUARDS

  • • At least two-thirds of the surface should be covered with food to avoid thermal shock. Evenly distribute food over the stone and avoid clustering.
  • • Avoid extreme temperature changes. Let stoneware cool to room temperature before adding liquid or cleaning. If placing frozen foods directly onto a preheated stone, evenly spread across the entire stone to minimize potential breakage.
  • • Always place stoneware on hot pads or trivets to avoid damage to countertops and tables. Do not place directly on a cool surface.
  • • Stoneware may scratch surfaces; place a protective barrier between the stoneware and the surface.
  • • Stoneware is not grill-safe.

CLEANING

  • • Wash before first use; dishwasher-safe. Allow the stone to fully cool before dishwashing.
  • • To deep clean: Prepare a baking soda paste by mixing ½ cup (125 mL) of baking soda with 3 tbsp (45 mL) water. Apply to desired areas and let stand for 15–20 minutes. Wipe off excess paste with a nonabrasive sponge or cloth, rinse thoroughly, and towel dry.

USE AND CARE

  • • Stoneware will naturally season and develop a nonstick surface over time with use. Dishwashing will lengthen the amount of time to develop seasoning.
  • • Slight sticking may occur for the first several uses. For the best results, bake high-fat foods (e.g., refrigerated biscuits) or lightly brush with cooking oil for the first several uses. Aerosol nonstick spray is not recommended; it will create a sticky residue which is difficult to clean.
  • • Stoneware can be used in conventional and convection ovens, microwave, refrigerator, and is freezer-safe.
  • • Always thaw dense foods like frozen chicken breasts, pot pies, roasts or chops in the refrigerator prior to cooking on your stone.
  • • Stones are heat-safe and broiler-safe up to 550°F (287°C). Food must be 5 inches (13 cm) away from the heat source.
  • • Stones can be preheated with no food on them up to 500°F (260°C) for up to 30 minutes.

I had broken our pizza stone, and I needed to replace it. The "seller" had indicated "New, no box, with care and use instructions." Also it was to be from the "Family Heritage" stoneware collection, just like mine. I was jazzed at the price since we use other baking stones from the same collection. It is not a "Family Heritage" stoneware collection pizza stone. It also has no care and use instructions, on top of those issues, it is not flat. I could have purchased that from another site for $39.95 if I didn't care about replacing what I broke. I'm not pleased, because my spouse is not pleased.

Pampered Chef Large Pizza Stone is pre-seasoned and oven-safe so your pizza crust will be perfectly crispy every time. It has been designed with a raised lip on the back edge to make transferring that pizza on and off easier than ever and handles to easily get it in and out of the oven!

Next up in products I can't live without

Friday is Pizza Night at our house. With four growing children, that means we need more than one pizza stone.

We've tried a few different ones, but they always burned our pizza. Who wants burnt pizza when my very old, well-seasoned Pampered Chef pizza stone makes perfect crust every single time?

Finally, my husband had enough. “Get another stone like your old one.”

making pizza

This old one – that's my #3 boy making homemade pizza.

Pampered Chef tells you that, when it comes to unglazed stoneware, “the darker it gets, the better it works.”

As you can see, mine is very dark. If I recall, I bought it sometime in the late 1990s. That means I can honestly tell my children that the pizza stone is older – much older – than they are.

Of course, when I decided to replace it (and become a consultant so I can start selling it), I assumed that I'd have to spend several years until it was as beautifully non-stick as my original.

Not so, but far otherwise, declared my friend Erika. (Okay, she didn't really say that – it comes from Just So Stories. But she did say the ‘no' part)

A lot has changed in twenty years – they're now non-stick, dishwasher-safe AND now come with handles and a lip on one side!

Popular Stories Right now

So … they took one of my favourite pieces of cookware, my stone that has been carefully wrapped and moved several times over the past two decades, even transported on my lap, wrapped in a towel, on one move … and they made it better?

Is It Only for Pizza?

No, not at all! We eat a lot of homemade pizza at our house, so that's what we mostly use them for. And it's great for frozen pizza, too.

However, you can make bread – either free-form artisan loaves, biscuits, cinnamon rolls … I've used it to make hamburger buns and they were incredible.

But Is There a Warranty?

Pampered Chef offers a 3-year warranty on their stones, assuming you're using it in the normal manner.

It is VERY likely that your stone will last much longer than that.

NATURAL CLAY COOKWARE

“Pampered Chef's unglazed stoneware is made with their new StoneFusion material making it their strongest and most durable stoneware yet.”

What does that mean in regular speech? It means you can pre-heat, broil, and even put this stone in the dishwasher.

Okay, you will probably never want to put your stone in the dishwasher (not once in two decades have I felt that need), but if you do want to, you CAN.

And you don't have to panic if the children, your spouse, or an over zealous house guest washes it with soap.

“Each piece features a ribbon pattern, so you can easily distinguish from your original unglazed stones” – what THAT means is that I'm not going to accidentally mix up my very old, darkened with age but sadly not soap-loving stone with the new dishwasher safe one.

Is Pampered Chef pizza stone worth it?

I had forgotten what my original Pampered Chef Pizza Stone looked like until I got my new one! What a difference. The dark staining is a GOOD thing since it means about twenty years of seasoning. Eventually my new stone (well, stones … I bought two more) will look like that, too.

Like all their stones, you can use it to make your favorite baked goods, frozen foods, or reheated leftovers that are just as good or better than day one. And it only gets better with age. A nonstick seasoning will develop as you use it—the darker it looks, the better it cooks!

I love this pizza stone SO much that I decided to start selling Pampered Chef. (I love all of their products but the stone is my favourite.)

Using a Pampered Chef Stone

Congratulations! You've bought your first piece of Pampered Chef Stoneware and …. you're terrified of using it wrong. Let's put those worries to rest because these are amazing.

It is SO very heat-safe! The stone is heat-safe to 550°F (287°C) – this means you can use it in the oven, microwave (okay, perhaps not the large pizza stone, unless you have a very large microwave), dishwasher, freezer, and under the broiler.

You cannot use it on the grill. (We have other cookware for that)

Plus, it can go from the fridge to a preheated oven. It can handle cold -> hot. Do not put a hot stone into the freezer or on a cold surface, though.

Don't drop it. Just like glassware and the like, stoneware IS breakable.

Seasoning a Pampered Chef Stone

Look up at my dark brown stone. That's what it looks like after years of seasoning. Yours will look like that, too, eventually, with a beautiful non-stick surface.

Impatient to get that dark, non-stick seasoning? Just bake higher-fat foods (like biscuits, even the refrigerated kind) the first few times, or lightly brush with cooking oil.

Don't use an aerosol cooking spray, though!

Cooking with a PC Stone

Just use the temperature and baking time in your recipe. There are no special adaptations you need to make.

If the recipe time is under 12 minutes, you may need to add 1-2 minutes.

There are some tips for using it effectively, though.

  • Evenly distribute food across as much of the surface as possible, at least two-thirds full.
  • You can preheat your stone up to 500°F (260°C) for up to 30 minutes. This will shorten the cooking time, so check 5-10 minutes sooner.
  • Making frozen pizza? Preheating is NOT necessary. Add the frozen pizza to the stone and put it in the oven. (On the other hand, if your stone is already hot because you've removed a pizza, you can add another immediately and put it back in the oven.

How to Clean a Pampered Chef Pizza Stone (or other stones!)

  • Use the included pan scraper to remove any debris from your stone. As the seasoning builds up, this will became needed less often.
  • Let the stone cool completely before placing in the dishwasher.
  • Want to build up that seasoning as quickly as possible? Handwash your stone – after it is cool, of course – with warm water. You don't need to use any soap.

Safe Use Instructions

No one wants to get hurt. Nor do you want your beautiful stone to shatter into pieces. Here are some important things to keep in mind.

WARNING

  • Hot stoneware is … well, it's hot! If you touch it directly, it will burn your skin. Don't do that!
  • Always use heat-resistant oven mitts or pads.
  • Stoneware can break if bumped or dropped. If this occurs, use caution as broken pieces can be sharp and could cause injury. Do not use chipped or damaged stoneware.
  • Stoneware should not touch the sides of the oven or the oven door when closed.

  • Always place stoneware on hot pads or trivets to avoid damage to countertops and tables. Do not place directly on a cool surface.
  • Stoneware may scratch surfaces; place a protective barrier between the stoneware and the surface.
  • No grill, remember! Pampered Chef stones are not grill-safe.

Easy Cleanup!

  • Wash before first use; dishwasher-safe. Allow the stone to fully cool before dishwashing.
  • To deep clean: Prepare a baking soda paste by mixing ½ cup (125 mL) of baking soda with 3 Tablespoons (45 mL) water. Apply to the dirty spot and let stand for 15–20 minutes. Use a nonabrasive sponge or cloth to wipe off the excess paste, rinse completely, and towel dry.

What is so great about Pampered Chef stoneware?

A: The benefits are numerous. Because it heats evenly and then retains that heat, Stoneware produces exceptionally crisp crusts and moist interiors, promotes even baking and browning, and roasts foods to perfection.

Is Pampered Chef stoneware worth it?

The Pampered Chef stoneware line is worth every penny because it's lightweight, washes SUPER easily, and cooks evenly. If you're considering a switch from metal to stoneware, I highly recommend it!

Is it better to cook a pizza on a pizza stone?

Thinner crust styles, like Neapolitan and New York pizzas, tend to suffer from the lower heat of a home oven, which is why the crust is never quite right without a stone, no matter how much you labored over making the perfect dough. Pizza stones absorb heat easily and retain that heat for a long period of time.
