The supposed +16% atk from Rancour (Refinement 0, max stacks) is misleading. This is not a global multiplier, but rather stacks additively with what you get from artifacts.

Your atk-stack is calculated as: base_atk * (1 + %atk) + #atk

E.g. base_atk at 90, with a +40 atk, +4.7% feather is gonna result in 90*(1+0.047)+40 = 134 atk.

Now adding Rancour into the mix 90*(1+0.047+0.04*4)+40 = 148. You can already see that this is only a 148/134-1 = 10% increase in total damage, considerably less than one might expect at first glance. And this gets way worse (relatively) as you gain more gear.

P.s.: I also tested these numbers in the game, but only did two tests (one without artifacts, one with a lot of atk stats on artifacts). Mostly with Kaeya since he has a nice and simple damage skill.

P.s.s.: Here are a few additional infos that might be expected, but let me just state them. 1. The duration of all stacks refreshes with every normal/charged attack. 2. Increases from buffs like this affect elemental skills just fine.

Since the beginning of the game Genshin Impact, Traveler’s journey has been prepared to strengthen his various combat equipment. These were like artifacts and weapons scattered over several regions or rewards from quests. Of course this is needed to make the adventure easier.

Elemental Mastery Lv. 1 / Lv. 90 = 36 / 165

Refinement Effect

Increases elemental DMG, increases all DMG by 6% – 12% for 6 seconds. Maximum of 2 stacks. This effect is active every 1 second.

Which is the best?

Looking at the status of each weapon, it is clear that these two weapons represent each of the 2 output attacks, namely physical attacks and elemental attacks.

Overall, we feel Prototype Rancour better able to reach most of the Genshin Impact characters DPS Sword user. This was because every Sword user launched physical attacks more often than elemental attacks. Characters like Traveler, Jean, Kaeya and Qiqi will suit this weapon well.

For Iron Stinger, characters like Xinqiu, Bennett and Kaeya can make good use of it. They often rely on elemental or ultimate skills to produce the best damage. Besides that, with Elemental Mastery, this weapon can be a character option support.
