mezzo-forte carbon cello as 6-string version with high E-string and low F-string.

Features:

- Pickup connection for acoustic AND electric playing, permanently installed ("Hybrid")

- Anima Nova carbon sound post, adjustable within the instrument

- Pirastro E and F strings, custom-made

- Pirastro Perpetual Edition string set C, G, D, A

- carbon endpin

- Milo Stamm bridge

- Broadened fingerboard (ebony) and broadened neck, exact setup for very good playability

It is an extraordinary instrument. Good 6-string cellos are only made by very few violin makers worldwide. The carbon cello delivers an outstanding response and also a tonally appropriate body for the large tonal range.

Acoustic-Electric 5 & 6 String Cellos

Vector Instruments now offers 5 and 6 string Acoustic-Electric Cellos to those players who require both capabilities.

This is a finely finished European instrument that has been upgraded in our shop to a 5 or 6 string neck and the Barbera Multi-Transducer Bridge.

It comes complete with an L.R. Baggs preamp which offers total control over impedance matching and notch filtering to eliminate feedback.

Instruments start at $1,995 US ($2,895 Can) and come complete with a hardshell case.

An important concept to note with these instruments is the quality of the body. If you want a 5/6 string cello that will be mostly played amplified, then it is best to use an inexpensive plywood body as there is less chance of feedback and unwanted resonances.

These models start at $1.995 US ($2,895 Can).

If however your priority is an acoustic 5/6 string then the quality of body becomes very important. I use a handmade, solid wood body that is re-graduated to enhance the lower frequencies. The bass bar and soundpost are also modified.

These models start at $5,000 US ($6,750 Can).

Here's a recent 6-string commission.

My client wished to tune it b-e-a-d-g-c and have boxwood inlays to simulate frets.

I custom made the bridge and pickup system and did some inlays on the end of the fingerboard and tailpiece.

What is A 6 string cello called?

The arpeggione is a six-stringed musical instrument fretted and tuned like a guitar, but with a curved bridge so it can be bowed like a cello, and thus similar to the bass viola da gamba. The instrument is sometimes also called a guitar violoncello.

Is there A 5 string cello?

A 5 string cello is exactly what it sounds like: a traditional cello with an added string. This instrument is tuned in one of two ways: with a high e' or a low E. To accommodate the additional e/E string, a 5 string cello has a slightly wider neck, and shorter body.

How many string does A cello have?

The Cello has four strings, tuned in 5ths to C, G, D and A. The lower strings have a richer, darker sound and to exploit this it is quite common for composers to write that a particular phrase should be played on a particular string.

What is A 5 string cello called?

– Bach owned and occasionally composed for a five string, arm-held instrument, called viola pomposa4, which he himself used to call violoncello piccolo5. It featured the usual low tonal range of a cello but the fifth string gave access to an additional tonal range almost as high as a violin's.
